The Stock Check

Typically, Zlatan Ibrahimovic ensures that he crashes the Paul Pogba party, but the impact of the Frenchman’s energy at Old Trafford was there for all to see. Here’s the Stock Check after Friday’s night’s Gameweek 2 opener.

On the Rise

Zlatan Ibrahimovic
Friday’s Gameweek opener has made it almost impossible to ignore him.

While his performances have hardly been vintage, Ibrahimovic’s ability to score goals has been in evidence from the get-go and his impact devastating.

Paul Pogba’s arrival as the legs and possession winner in midfield has almost enabled the Swede to settle in the role he does best – now he can almost afford to drift in and out of the game, cropping up to provide moments of quality in the box where it matters.

Already the most transferred in tonight, it’s Hull City up next and the international break gap – multiple price rises look assured.

Luke Shaw
Just as Antonio Valencia looked to have the advantage, Shaw responded with a barnstorming display down the left. The assist for United’s penalty compounded an impressive display.
Again Pogba could be the influence here. Lining up on the left side of the double pivot, his ability to dominate possession could now see the power swing to the left side and promote Shaw as the choice full-back.

However, Valencia was just three behind Shaw in the Bonus Point System, despite his assist. We will continue to monitor but for now, Valencia remains our choice.

Paul Pogba
It was obvious that Pogba’s energy lifted United and brought the best out of those around him – it’s perhaps less obvious how the Frenchman will rate as a Fantasy asset.

He had more touches than any other player, he had more attempts on goal than any other United player but we need more time to see if that translates to returns to justify the 8.5 outlay.

In Decline

Wayne Rooney
Whilst Rooney chipped in with the assist for Ibrahimovic’s opener, when the Swede took the ball to stroke home United’s second, the skipper’s fate was sealed. The 2.5 price difference was tempting but Ibrahimovic has already made his mark, leaving Rooney playing second fiddle now and, most likely, throughout the season.

Notably, it’s also been Rooney, not the Swede who has been withdrawn in both league outings late on.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I'll just leave him to rot - 4.5 and decent fixtures I guess.

Kone and Gray are my bigger issues. Not happy with either, unless he goes to Everton.

All fallen in price and all capable of doing well this season. Some nice bargains in waiting there. 🙂

Don't agree really, not with a 1.5 price difference. When Redmond is up to 6.3 and Tadic down to 7.3 maybe, then there would be something to think about. But Redmond at 6.0 was just too good value.

As a Tadic owner (and big fan), this what actually worries me. Pelle and Mane may have been inconsistent but they were far superior to what he is working with now.

It's a shame he's not playing for a stronger side.

You only gain half of a player's profit once you sell them i.e. they have to increase by 0.2 to get an 0.1 profit when you sell them. Also, maybe the team value hasn't updated yet

  16. NP97

I'm really pissed at myself for two reasons:

    1. I got off to a terrible start this season mainly due to overspending on defenders and not having the budget for a solid midfield

    2. I didn't think forward enough to avoid price changes

This is my third season and the past tow kicked off smoothly so I'm not used to this situation (lol)

Annoyingly the price changes kicked in before many players have played their second match so I'll have to change now with that in mind. Luckily I have 0.5 mil itb to cover the changes

The only thing I did right was get Aguero...

Anyway, I want to desperately get one of the other big hitters (Hazard/Ibra) now especially before any more price changes.

My plan is to do Vardy/Tadic out for Ibra and Redmond (I already have Townsend, Ramirez and Feghouli)

The alternative is Vardy/Tadic to Hazard/some cheap attacker (I already have Gray)

I'm not keen to get rid of either of those players. Tadic because of underlying stats blahblahblah and Vardy because even though Leicester look a different team I know he can score and he has a relatively weak Swansea defence next week. But I feel Redmond being a striker offers as much if not more than Tadic now and Ibra has easy away fixtures and what should be a goal fest against a Kompany-less city. I also have Eriksen but I think he is more solid than Lamela over the long run.

Let me know what you think. I was about to do the first option but then price changes kicked in before I made up my mind.

I'd suggest a midfield of Redmond - Townsend - Ramirez - Feghouli is too weak. Who's your fifth mid?

      1. NP97
        • 11 Years
        10 years, 5 days ago

Eriksen, I think it's listed up there somewhere. The midfield is weak I agree and it's all due to my mistake of over-investing in the defence. I keep thinking though that players like Jaku, Amat who are cheap defensive players won't last and are unlikely and so I avoided them...

Rooney giving up pens bit of a bummer. Zlatan looks like the main man now. Ahead of Hull, everyone is going to want him.

2 X FT's so have jumped aboard and Bolasie has tickled my fancy ahead of Everton's brilliant fixtures and Goodison debut next week (fingers crossed). Just not feeling the Lamela love, plus leaves £1m in the bank to do Negredo > Benteke potentially.

Amazing how Arsenal are being left behind. Not so long ago their midfield was the benchmark, now you look at the energy in the Liverpool midfield, United, Chelsea and teams are going to have to adapt. Spurs with Dier and Wanyama is an alternative approach. United really needed both the Ibra and Pogba signings.

I'm going to have to squeeze in a United defender next week, their ownerships are just insane.

    De Gea: 46.4%
    Shaw: 18.9%
    Bailly: 13.5%
    Valencia: 9.9%

I know its boring to 'play the ownership game' but its seriously daunting to enter every gameweek knowing every other team has De Gea in goal, and a clean sheet when you don't own one is a likely red arrow

    Vardy + Alli > Lamela + Ibra 2FT

    and

    Firmino + Gray > Redmond + Benteke (-8)

Didnt want to get Diomande so i got Benteke +1.6 ITB but lost Firmino...

What game? Stating the obvious? No I'm not. Fpl? Yes I am.

Benched Redmond for Routledge, today. Shipped Rooney and Mahrez for Ibra + Bolasie tonight.

Rooney not worth 9m if not on pens, I feel. Very good mid priced midfielders, and Everton have great fixtures. Attacking defenders look excellent value for those wanting an Aguero + Ibra team.

Completely agree. Vardy to Ibra is the easy bit. It's getting the right cheap mid to afford him that's difficult.

      The truth. Too impatient.
