The Stock Check

Typically, Zlatan Ibrahimovic ensures that he crashes the Paul Pogba party, but the impact of the Frenchman’s energy at Old Trafford was there for all to see. Here’s the Stock Check after Friday’s night’s Gameweek 2 opener.

On the Rise

Zlatan Ibrahimovic
Friday’s Gameweek opener has made it almost impossible to ignore him.

While his performances have hardly been vintage, Ibrahimovic’s ability to score goals has been in evidence from the get-go and his impact devastating.

Paul Pogba’s arrival as the legs and possession winner in midfield has almost enabled the Swede to settle in the role he does best – now he can almost afford to drift in and out of the game, cropping up to provide moments of quality in the box where it matters.

Already the most transferred in tonight, it’s Hull City up next and the international break gap – multiple price rises look assured.

Luke Shaw
Just as Antonio Valencia looked to have the advantage, Shaw responded with a barnstorming display down the left. The assist for United’s penalty compounded an impressive display.
Again Pogba could be the influence here. Lining up on the left side of the double pivot, his ability to dominate possession could now see the power swing to the left side and promote Shaw as the choice full-back.

However, Valencia was just three behind Shaw in the Bonus Point System, despite his assist. We will continue to monitor but for now, Valencia remains our choice.

Paul Pogba
It was obvious that Pogba’s energy lifted United and brought the best out of those around him – it’s perhaps less obvious how the Frenchman will rate as a Fantasy asset.

He had more touches than any other player, he had more attempts on goal than any other United player but we need more time to see if that translates to returns to justify the 8.5 outlay.

In Decline

Wayne Rooney
Whilst Rooney chipped in with the assist for Ibrahimovic’s opener, when the Swede took the ball to stroke home United’s second, the skipper’s fate was sealed. The 2.5 price difference was tempting but Ibrahimovic has already made his mark, leaving Rooney playing second fiddle now and, most likely, throughout the season.

Notably, it’s also been Rooney, not the Swede who has been withdrawn in both league outings late on.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Pulled the trigger on Gray to Rondon last night. Hopefully he can stay injury free for the rest of the week 😉

I actually looked at this last night. I think Rondon is going to have a really good season. WBA probably won't score much more than Burnley but their fixtures are so much better. Only thing putting me off was Alan Brasil talking Rondon up yesterday!!! 🙂

      Nice move

        Hahahaha.

        MID bou WHM sto.

Some nice games coming up for him against some dodgy defences and has decent stats to back it up too. 🙂

I really fancied him last season. He really is a terrific footballer. If he scores again this weekend and Gray blanks, this could be my move too. Especially as Kun Ibra Benteke is just too painful elsewhere...

Benteke's fixtures are great but he hasn't kicked a ball in pre-season. Will take him time before he gets up to speed.

I think some people on here panic regarding team value and rush into transfers they don't necessarily want to make to avoid a 0.1 or 0.2 drop.

    1. RubberDucky
      9 years, 10 months ago

Well its the issue of delaying getting a player and having to shift afew around to get them at a later date, for the sake of 0.1m.

      That's the problem/gamble

    Foster Jaku
    Valencia Stones Williams Friend Amat
    Haz Firmino Delf Lamela Capoue
    Aguero Ibra Negredo

Finally enough I just abandoned season 2 last night after an episode (5 I think I persevered to) started with a horrendous 17 min sitcom dream sequence. Terrible. Final straw for me. Shame as series 1 great and concept had so much potential. But not only does series 2 become ridiculous, it's also very boring too.

I cuurently have Kun and 2 x 6.5 strikers. So getting him in is going to mean 3-4 transfers.

See above. I think you've made your bed and have to lie in it. Try and hold on for one more week and then wild card over international break. If he scores again he'll be 12 by end of that.

I would get him just based on ownership alone.

He's on pens, he's nailed, he's clinical so doesn't need many chances and united look like they could become a force again once the team gels and everyone returns (Smalling, Mikh) no point going without because he will keep scoring and everyone owns him and a lot of people will be captaining him too

I'd understand if people said this about Vardy last year or Kane the year before, but Ibra? Comeon mate he's proven worldclass striker, will find ways to get on the score sheet.

Could've had a hattrick had Martial and Pogba (to some extent) been less selfish.

You don't need to be a constant threat to score goals, he is clinical. And on pens 😉

I go on holiday for one day and transcend from a squad I'm happy with to Ibra being beloved and sending me tumbling through the ranks, while Tadic decreases and Gray is perilously close.

    God I've missed FF.

Providing Sanchez looks like a wet blanket would Sanchez + Gray > Ramirez + Ibra be worthwhile?

Last GW's Ayew > Barkley is the purest definition of meh going.

Am struggling to see the upside of Barkely. Any offers?

Think Bolasie offers better value. Could be like Mane at Soton.
Although will wait to watch him before making any judgement

In a Terrible Dilemma atm!! 🙁

Just made a new team yesterday for a Hefty Cash league!!

    Valdes Jakupovic
    Baines Walker Mcauley Souare Amat
    Hazard Eriksen Martial Redmond Fletcher
    Kun Costa Llorente

But i already Have a team made before gw1 and has it running for some College leagues..and i just activated the wildcard
So the problem is that should i.make a team similar to my cash league team?? Or Alter it?? Like Having Ibra instead of Martial?? But that would make me have 2 minds while watching the games!!

Thinking of just having two same teams!!

    Thoughts??
    Help please

    Just fiddled around.

    Ibra, Redmond, Ramirez
    For
    Gray, Tadic, Mahrez

    For a -4

Worth doing? Rather not lose Mahrez tbh but if ibra scores a brace in his next game im gonna be well behind.

If Kun turns out to be off penalties then surely Zlatan is the better captain pick in general over the season?

For 13m he'd better be on pens or he's off my team.

1/5 of his goals in the last two seasons has been from penalties. Without them I'd rather have two mid prices strikers who are on pens.

Probably boring everyone now but people who own aguero and ibra - thats over a 1/4 of your team spent on 2 players. Are you not worried about how weak your Midfielders are.... or do you not give 2 hoots as Ibra is tearing it up anyway?

I have Agüero, Ibra and Hazard. Happy with that. As the season progresses you start to find good value elsewhere but it's difficult to make up for not owning the likes of Zlatan.

i have kunbra and mids of haz barkley coutinho lamela and capoue at the moment its great but wait until all those premium mids start firing then the problems start

It'll only be an issue if too many 7-8.5m mids do well. If that happens though one of the two is downgraded to an in form cheaper striker and I can pick up the midfield bandwagons.

Having both (and Hazard) just seems like the safest way to start.

A weak midfield to fit them in is a myth. It will be slightly weaker of course, but not weak enough to make a massive difference.

For example this is my team from gw1:

      Heaton
      Valencia Stones Friend (Evans Kone)
      Mahrez Firmino Lamela Redmond (Capoue)
      Kun Ibra Musa

Do you think that's overly weak?

    In a spot of bother

Wanted to Started the season with Rutledge and .5 itb but then stones became available so no
    5 itb

    My front 8 is

    Rutledge mahrez hazard firmino
    Kun ibra gray

Based on the assumption that routledge has a difficult schedule ahead and gray is going to call tonight

    What would u do ?

    Rout + gray to ?

    Have 2 fts

Ramirez and save the other FT to see how Benteke goes. Another week will give you a better idea of which cheap striker to go for. You'll need the other transfer for any adjustment,
