The Stock Check

Typically, Zlatan Ibrahimovic ensures that he crashes the Paul Pogba party, but the impact of the Frenchman’s energy at Old Trafford was there for all to see. Here’s the Stock Check after Friday’s night’s Gameweek 2 opener.

On the Rise

Zlatan Ibrahimovic
Friday’s Gameweek opener has made it almost impossible to ignore him.

While his performances have hardly been vintage, Ibrahimovic’s ability to score goals has been in evidence from the get-go and his impact devastating.

Paul Pogba’s arrival as the legs and possession winner in midfield has almost enabled the Swede to settle in the role he does best – now he can almost afford to drift in and out of the game, cropping up to provide moments of quality in the box where it matters.

Already the most transferred in tonight, it’s Hull City up next and the international break gap – multiple price rises look assured.

Luke Shaw
Just as Antonio Valencia looked to have the advantage, Shaw responded with a barnstorming display down the left. The assist for United’s penalty compounded an impressive display.
Again Pogba could be the influence here. Lining up on the left side of the double pivot, his ability to dominate possession could now see the power swing to the left side and promote Shaw as the choice full-back.

However, Valencia was just three behind Shaw in the Bonus Point System, despite his assist. We will continue to monitor but for now, Valencia remains our choice.

Paul Pogba
It was obvious that Pogba’s energy lifted United and brought the best out of those around him – it’s perhaps less obvious how the Frenchman will rate as a Fantasy asset.

He had more touches than any other player, he had more attempts on goal than any other United player but we need more time to see if that translates to returns to justify the 8.5 outlay.

In Decline

Wayne Rooney
Whilst Rooney chipped in with the assist for Ibrahimovic’s opener, when the Swede took the ball to stroke home United’s second, the skipper’s fate was sealed. The 2.5 price difference was tempting but Ibrahimovic has already made his mark, leaving Rooney playing second fiddle now and, most likely, throughout the season.

Notably, it’s also been Rooney, not the Swede who has been withdrawn in both league outings late on.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

So I did Vardy > Zlatan + Tadic > Lamela for a -4 (left 1.0ITB before GW1) last night to beat the price rise. Smooth move or do you think it was a misteak?

Did Vardy to Ibra myself but am holding unto Tadic.

Shipping him for Lamela looks like chasing lost points but it's a good move.

Had Shaw, Redmond and Ibra, still dropped from 4.6k to 18k 😕

    26 from my first 3 and a 974k GR?

How does this even happen? 😆

Loads of Man U fans play the game and will have 3 of them with Ibra (c).

Whilst total points are so low, one haul can make a massive rank difference.

    Martial out.. Townsend in.
    Mahrez out... Haz in.
    Vardy out... Ibra in
    Llorente out... Negredo in.
Zaha out... Who in?? (2.4 ITB - Siggy, Barks, Lamela.)

If Southampton had put away their chances it would be totally different. Ibrah I'd worry about to be fair and that's because he seems to be in right place at right time..Surely he can't maintain this rate with the average stats he has or maybe he will..he was pretty anonymous bar the good goal and pen

At Arsenal? Not the manager but the advisors to him who need to push him to spend on holding mids (eg missing Wanyama, Sneiders from Saints) and strikers etc. When he goes things may get worse.

So who bought Zlatan last night??

    1. Teror
      • 11 Years
      10 years, 5 days ago

I did. Did Vardy > Zlatan + Tadic > Lamela for a -4. Both rose last night, I bet that Zlatan will rise at least once more by next week. So many people have him, can be easily downgraded for just about anyone else, bit of a no brainer really.

      1. Jøssy ⭐
        • 12 Years

I rolled by transfer, so I was able to do it for free. I did Tadic & Vardy > Redmond & Ibra, so I avoided the Tadic drop too.

        Already have Lamela 😎

Well, that's why you're the boss. My gut told me to go with Lamela & Negredo pre-season but people here convinced me to pick Tadic and Gray. Had to correct that, and a -4 is a small price to pay imo.

I was on 360k but went up to 200k, I think Shaw (Redmond) may have saved me but on 20% ownership I was still happily surprised to get a decent green with Aguero (c) to come.

      Can't have everyone.

Realistically you can only have one of Ibra, Costa, Kane, Vardy etc. as your second striker and I went for Kane.

Switching after one bad game is too knee-jerky, nothing to say Kane won't get a haul against Palace.

Will that United performance (win) bring out the best in City/Chelsea/Pool (Arsenal/Spurs), they can't afford not to let them get too far ahead right now, could be good for owners of Fpl assetts of those teams, granted City won their opening 5 games last season and looked unstoppable till West Ham beat them 2-1 at the Ethiad, too early for United supporters to get carried away or is it a sign of reemergence?

Far too early for them to think like that, they've only won 2 games against sides they'd be expected to beat.

Yes clearly they're in the hunt but when Jose arrived I'm sure everyone already knew that.

These were the kind of games they were losing last year and from the corresponding Fixtures they lost both 2-1 Bou and 1-0 Soton, so that's 6 points up in those games.
I'm not getting carried away but so happy just to be doing the simple things again.

This story is For the people out there that're a bit too warey of early ranking.

I remained at the 2.7mill mark last year up until about GW 9-10. However, I finished the season ranked 7,555.
A decent start is definitely helpful, but the ability to adapt to what the season will hold wrt injuries and team mentalities / form along with your ability to bring in form players will be the decisive factor.
These are just my thoughts regarding the issue 😀

Nothing wrong with your philosophy but personally I like a good start, around 200k now with Kun (c) to play so quite happy there and hopefully get greens from here on.

Yeah I was languishing around 200k after the first 20 GWs last season, ended up 3k. It helps when the casuals start giving up/forgetting about their teams hahaha.

I totally agree. For me team value is the aim of the game this early on.

If I have taken a hit then a WC erases that?

I'm getting badly burnt by not owning Zlatan.

    Kane > Ibra?

If Kane blanks then I have no choice. Not owning Ibra has backfired badly so far

Oh my. First price drop in my team. Tadic down to 7.4m. Hopefully he scores 10+ pts next GW.

Again. If Long knew how to finish, he would at least had one assist yesterday.

He'll blank for months then just when you've run out of patience and finally (ta)dic him he'll score 25

Best combo for the long term?

    A.) Deeney and Azpil

    Or

    B.) Benteke and Terry

    ??

Benteke wont be a starter for the next two weeks ince he hasnt played any preseason games

Decided I'm giving Tadic one more week. Think he has been unlucky to not register any points as yet but if he blanks against Sunderland then I think it's time to say goodbye.

Wondering about gray. I kept my FT this week and, if he blanks again and others in the same price range score, do you think I should transfer him out?

Waiting for one more week and then will look for other alternatives after the International break.

I've finally found a positive spin on all of this Ibra mess.

Everybody who now has Kun and Ibra will have a tough choice to make on who to captain and will inevitably miss out on some big Aguero hauls.

There we go... all is good and well now. No more need to worry...

Not really. Kun easily for me. Ibrah just in to defend the ownership a little

Anyone else hoping Kane and Vardy produce the goods today? Some counterweight for the Kunibra trend...

Especially because they're fixtures look so good the next few GWs. Not sure it will outweigh Ibra's fixtures and points.
