Michail Antonio shifts forward and provides the decisive finish as West Ham celebrate their London Stadium bow with a hard-fought victory. Earlier in the day, Alvaro Negredo’s qualtiy and Cristhian Stuani’s finishing combined to earn Middlesbrough three points on Wearside. Here’s the Stock Check after Sunday’s matches…

On the Rise

Alvaro Negredo
A goal in Gameweek 1, followed by two classy assists today. Negredo appears to be reveling in his lone striker role for Middlesbrough and his intelligence and awareness looks very effective in combination with the likes of Gaston Ramirez and Stewart Downing as creators. Negredo sits third in the FPL rankings – only Sergio Aguero and Zlatan Ibrahimovic have started stronger. Further transfer traffic is heading his way.

Cristhian Stuani
It’s a long shot but we have to mention the Uruguayan following his two goals. Brought in to replace Albert Adomah as part of Aitor Karanka expected rotation on the flanks, he reacted by seizing his opportunity in style. It remains to be seen if Stuani can retain a starting role – even as a 4.9 forward, his appeal would seem limited.

Patrick van Aanholt
More goals and more attempts than any other defender last season, the flying Dutchman has already opened his account for 2016/17. While David Moyes’ defence ha been unsettled by injury and departures, Van Aanholt still provides a tempting proposition given his attacking prowess and Sunderland’s fixtures. The Black Cats welcome Everton, Palace and West Brom to Wearside over the next five Gameweeks.

Michail Antonio
Has Eden Hazard done Fantasy managers a huge favour? After enduring a torrid evening at the hands of the Belgian at Stamford Bridge last Monday, Antonio was shifted onto the flank for today’s home clash with Bournemouth. Considering the injury situation in attack, Slaven Bilic will surely now look to keep Antonio in an attacking role after the former Nottingham Forest man headed home the match-winner. If he can keep his place and that position beyond the Gameweek 3 trip to City, Antonio would certainly be back on our radar as a true alternative to Dimitri Payet.

James Collins
A goal against Chelsea, followed up by a solid rearguard display against the Cherries, looks to have kept the Welshman ahead of Angelo Ogbonna in the West Ham defence. At 4.5, he’s got some very decent upcoming fixtures after next week’s trip to City has passed. We’re currently favouring Winston Reid for his security of starts but Collins may just usurp him heading into that run of matches.

In Decline

Dimitri Payet
Slaven Bilic has played down the severity of the Frenchman’s injury but, with a trip to City up next, Payet’s 25% owners aren’t hanging about. Over 36,000 have parted company already this week, more than any midfielder – with the international break to follow Gameweek 3, a failure to feature at the Etihad could see the exodus snowball.

Andy Carroll
With Andre Ayew ruled out for months, the Hammers target man seemed nailed on up front for the foreseeable future. Yet again, though, Carroll faces a spell on the sidelines after succumbing to a knee injury – given his treatment room history, we should have known that price of 6.5 was too good to be true.

Callum Wilson
The Cherries striker looked a shadow of the player that scored a hat-trick away to the Hammers just 12 months ago. Hauled off for the second match in succession, Wilson has managed just two attempts on goal in the first couple of Gameweeks. Eddie Howe’s side will struggle if they fail to get him firing.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

      I've had Hazard GW1 & GW2 as a differential.

GW1 it worked and GW2 it obviously didn't.

I'm tempted again as I'll be annoyed if he gets a haul the week I don't captain him but think I'm going to have to be sensible and go with Aguero.

I'm happy with the keepers for now even with cheaper options than De Gea available.

Capoue is showing on the app as injured, was considering him aside from that.

Have 2 FT. Thinking about Deulofeu, Firmino, Gray to Townsend (fixtures and Benteke), Bolasie (fixtures and Lukaku), Giroud ( fixtures and Ozil, Sanchez, Cazorla etc)

4 point hit but Giroud huge differential and with Zlatan and Kun in every team the third striker is going to be important. Only worry is his minutes in the beginning.

Gray out is a very poor move.

Townsend won't benefit too much from Benteke and vice versa because Benteke needs a winger who will run down the line and put in a cross rather than cut in and shoot like Townsend.

Bolaise not a great FPL option in the past so he's a wait and see.

Barkely is a nice safe option. nailed and will continue to chip in goal or assist with regularity. Personally would go Barkley over Mirallas yes Mirallas has disappointed time and again at Everton..

Mirallas was great when he played consistently (and was an excellent fpl pick). The frustration of having him in the past two seasons was mostly due to the inconsistency in gametime from Martinez.

Similar potential, although Mirallas has corners and most free kicks. You're paying the extra for security of starts.

Yeah, would love to have Negredo. Gray will probably be slightly worse FPL wise, but only slightly. And now there's the 0.2 difference as well!

In hindsight maybe but I think it was the right decision at the time. It's only been 2 games and both have done well but I'd still bet on Gray to carry it on.

      o/

Not that badly though. Boro are a good team but much like WBA, they won't score many (nor will Burnley tbf)

Although, that doesnt make Negredo, Rondon or Gray a bad pick as they probably have a high involvement rate.

Negredo would have been my pick if I didn't think Rhodes posed a threat. He still may do later on, but for now Negredo looks safe

Boro played vs Sunderland. Burnley played vs Liverpool. And Gray/Burnley always looked a threat on the counter. I have no regrets with Gray. Boro still have to prove themselves vs higher opposition.

I was fairly happy with it but it's been poor two weeks in a row now and I'm below 1m rank. Captain choices have been good but benched keeper points twice. If it doesn't improve I'll WC. There are 9 players I would change now if I could.

I don't have ibra and I have vardy...no hazard eithers...need to shift a few around to get these two in so considering a wildcard. Am I knee jerking or is that a good idea? Would probably need to lose firminio for bojan too.

      1. Irish Madridista ⭐
        • 15 Years

        Bojan is far from essential.
I''m ok to wait on Hazard too, his fixtures are about to turn for the worse after Burnley (who have been decent defensively)

Ibra though... man you need him 😉

          • 10 Years

yes whats more annoying is I had him and Kun in my first draft team then dropped ibra to boost the mids. Do you think I should wildcard? I can't do a straight transfer for ibra, I'd need to make at least 3 transfers to get him in. Bojan was just an option to get some money over firminio at 8.5.

Hmm... Not sure I'd take a -8 for any player to be honest unless you liked all 3 players coming in. No HUGE rush to get Ibra in but I'd work towards it alright... Tough to call.

when do you think the best time to use the first wildcard is then? last year i left it till nov/dec and it worked out well but that was guesswork. Wondering if its best to use it now or wait a few weeks till players start establishing themselves better.
