This morning we take a look at our latest captain poll, assessing the likely favourites for the armband in Gameweek 3.

You can find the poll in the middle column of the homepage or at the bottom of the homepage on mobile. Remember, we are looking for your vote for the player you think will be most effective, regardless of whether you own them or not.

We predicted that Sergio Aguero (13.1) and Zlatan Ibrahimovic (11.6) would slug it out at the summit of the Gameweek 2 captain poll. They not only dominated voting but both excelled, bringing in a brace, maximum bonus and a 26-point Fantasy Premier League haul to those who chose to captain them.

We expect more of the same this Gameweek as Manchester City’s Aguero hosts a West Ham side that has looked disjointed due to injuries so far this campaign.

Meanwhile, the Manchester United frontman, who at 51% ownership has overtaken the 50.2% owned Aguero as FPL’s most popular player, visits a Hull side that have won both their opening fixtures. In the big Swede’s favour, the Tigers have conceding the third highest number of shots in the box of any Premier League side to date.

However, there could be a third protagonist to upset this duo’s dominance, with the 22.9% owned Eden Hazard (10.1) bringing in attacking points in both matches under Antonio Conte. The Chelsea wide man entertains a Burnley outfit that have conceded more shots than any side this season.

For those eyeing up a differential armband candidate, Southampton midfielders Dusan Tadic (7.4) and Nathan Redmond (6.1) look ideally placed. Although Tadic has yet to register attacking returns, his strong underlying statistics suggest that could change when Sunderland visit. The Serbian’s ownership in FPL is now down to just 4.6% after being discarded by more than 42,000 managers.

Nathan Redmond, who sits in 11% of FPL managers’ sides, has a goal to his name already and looks set to profit from his out of position striker role in this potentially prosperous encounter.

Ibrahimovic’s team mate Paul Pogba (8.5) offers another intriguing alternative armband option, following a strong debut in Gameweek 2 at home to Southampton.

After two matches without a goal, the 16.4% owned Harry Kane (11.0) will be lucky to register significant interest. The Spurs striker has continued to struggle in front of goal without the suspended Mousa Dembele in the side and, in Gameweek 2, his star waned further when he was forced into a number 10 role to accommodate Vincent Janssen (8.0), who was Tottenham’s most attacking player against Crystal Palace. Visitors Liverpool have already shipped five goals this season, but it could be the 1.9% owned Janssen who prospers rather than Kane.

Another of last season’s stars to fall out of favour this term is Leicester’s Riyad Mahrez, who has been jettisoned by 35,000 FPL managers already this Gameweek on the back of two relatively poor displays from last season’s champions. A home tie against Swansea, however, could be the ideal fixture for the 27.9% owned midfielder to prove he is worthy of a price hike to 9.5 this season.

Seriously considering just going Kane & Wilson ➡ Lukaku & Benteké and ignoring Ibra altogether.

At 50% ownership it feels like there's nothing to gain. He's so expensive too

Exacty. It's not about % of ownership. You'd build the worst team in the game if that was the case.

It is about ownership when every top player has him because it's one less spot in your team to make up ground

There's always merit in avoiding a heavy hitter (such as Ibra) if you can't afford him without messing your team up. Other players do well too, you just need to spend wisely and pick up the other strong options people can't get.

Having said that, you're mad if you don't get Ibra 🙂

    Which transfer would you do:

Deulofeu > Bolasie - saves me 0.5 which would go towards Negredo to Benteke in a few weeks

    Or

B.Smith > Amat - purely for price rise and to have a playing 4m

it is very sideways i completely agree.

I think Bolasie will start the next game, and i'm concerned it will be Deulofeu who's place he takes so that is coming into my thinking aswell.

If Negredo is still scoring well I wouldn't take him out. Just seems it could be a move to keep my 11 all playing, whilst saving a bit of cash for when it's needed.

        1. Think

do you think? Mirallas & Barkley have been playing well so not sure who would be the fall guy.

On that note though it seems Lukaku will come in and I can't see two of Deu, Mirallas & Barkley being dropped for Romelu & Bolasie so maybe Bolasie will still be on the bench.

hmmm, need some more time to think on it.

            Cheers for the response, appreciated

My advice if you're behind is:

      1. It's only 2 weeks in.
      2. Go on fixtures - Everton, Palace, maybe even Soton look good
      3. Your team is good. It will get points.
      4. Move I'd do is maybe risk on Benteke up top / a Palace midfielder. But you're team is set well.

Since last season I've been trying to follow rises through first 4-6 weeks (within reason) b/c they rise so much faster than they fall. I'm pretty bad at FPL...but I used my last week to bring in Ibra and other risers (McCauley, Azpi, Coutinho, Fer, Amat(value on bench), Kingsley(value on bench) before they jumped out of range.

Value is now 101.1mil and rising which hopefully allows me to load up for rest of season with 3 A-level forwards, Mid at AAA-B-C, and Defenders at AABCC by mid-September (when I shut down my weekly transfer antics until November (when aguerro gets hurt)

but again...FPL is typically not one of my strengths

I think so too, but I don't see Coutinho outperforming Nolito over next 3 due to poor fixtures for next 3 weeks (Spurs/Chelsea-Away, Leicester-H) vs Nolito (WH,Bournemouth-Home, ManU-away).

Taking a punt on Nolito that he'll increase minutes over Navas since Navas isn't a legitimate threat to goal. So far, he's greatly increased his value over Navas.

Does Sturridge return impact Coutinho's height on pitch and flow into attacking1/3rd?

I don't think Burnley will open up vs them and I do think that Shaw possibly would've led all defenders last season (even under LVG) if not for his season ending injury 5 games in.

More a question of who's gonna bag more this season. Shaw or Azpi. Not looking to be moving top defenders about too much b/c they win points for you on the average quality of their performance, not so much on the week to week attacking threat (more like midfielders...i.e. Hazard will go quiet for 70% of season, but bag all his points in 10-12 games)

Also think that Shaw will be out of reach by September.

I've already taken the hit on the price drop and by the sound of things he's back in for the Liverpool game.

      Deulofeu in their 3-4-2-1.

Lukaku came on and they switched to a 4-2-3-1

It'll be Lukaku from now on.

Maybe. He gets points somehow or another.

it's not easy but from that lot firmino purely because of fixtures.
Mcauley (CS pulis team - set piece threat)
Negredo (he is scoring and centre to MID success.)
Firmino ( so many attacking option at pool - u will get big haul and two blanks before big haul again.)

I've been very happy with front 3 of aguero, gray and negredo. Mids are hazard, mahrez, firming, tadic, capoue. I have 2 free transfers, I feel compelled to bring in ibra, but which forward do I give up? And which mid? Firmino? Should I just swap a defender for pieters or Francis and wait another week? Help, o wise ones!

Best mid 6.0 and below? Thinking of rotating with Capoue, so cheap is good 🙂

Hmm im not sure, probably Snodgrass but I cant see Capoue continuing to get points so id look at rotating Ramirez and Snodgrass (11.0) from GW8 it gives you

yes.if i remember correctly palace is a team ranked higher than any other team for crossing ( read it somewhere) and benteke will thrive over there.

    TRANSFER HELP NEEDED

    De Gea - Jaku
    Valencia - Stones - Fuchs - Friend - Pieters
    Hazard - Lamela - Deulofeu - Albrighton - Capoue
    Aguero - Ibra - Long

    2 FT
    1M ITB

Thinking I need to get rid of Albrighton, Fuchs, Deulofeu and Long soon.
Should I get rid of 3 this week and take a -4pt or get rid of just 2?
Leicester playing Swansea good chance for a clean sheet for Fuchs this week so think he will stay out of the 4 but then again I could downgrade him and free up another 1M to upgrade Deulofeu for a 8.5/8M mid.

    Appreciate the help

I did it saturday evenening.. even though i wasn't doing all that bad but (i captained hazard instead of ibra/kun and left morgan on the bench otherwise i would/ve had over 70 points this week instead of 57 , had 58 first wg..) but I am a first time player and got upset about price changes and I was a bit drunk and did it...

now have to try to get the most out of it.. trying to keep up with the daily price changes and then do something before the deadline..
