This morning we take a look at our latest captain poll, assessing the likely favourites for the armband in Gameweek 3.

You can find the poll in the middle column of the homepage or at the bottom of the homepage on mobile. Remember, we are looking for your vote for the player you think will be most effective, regardless of whether you own them or not.

We predicted that Sergio Aguero (13.1) and Zlatan Ibrahimovic (11.6) would slug it out at the summit of the Gameweek 2 captain poll. They not only dominated voting but both excelled, bringing in a brace, maximum bonus and a 26-point Fantasy Premier League haul to those who chose to captain them.

We expect more of the same this Gameweek as Manchester City’s Aguero hosts a West Ham side that has looked disjointed due to injuries so far this campaign.

Meanwhile, the Manchester United frontman, who at 51% ownership has overtaken the 50.2% owned Aguero as FPL’s most popular player, visits a Hull side that have won both their opening fixtures. In the big Swede’s favour, the Tigers have conceding the third highest number of shots in the box of any Premier League side to date.

However, there could be a third protagonist to upset this duo’s dominance, with the 22.9% owned Eden Hazard (10.1) bringing in attacking points in both matches under Antonio Conte. The Chelsea wide man entertains a Burnley outfit that have conceded more shots than any side this season.

For those eyeing up a differential armband candidate, Southampton midfielders Dusan Tadic (7.4) and Nathan Redmond (6.1) look ideally placed. Although Tadic has yet to register attacking returns, his strong underlying statistics suggest that could change when Sunderland visit. The Serbian’s ownership in FPL is now down to just 4.6% after being discarded by more than 42,000 managers.

Nathan Redmond, who sits in 11% of FPL managers’ sides, has a goal to his name already and looks set to profit from his out of position striker role in this potentially prosperous encounter.

Ibrahimovic’s team mate Paul Pogba (8.5) offers another intriguing alternative armband option, following a strong debut in Gameweek 2 at home to Southampton.

After two matches without a goal, the 16.4% owned Harry Kane (11.0) will be lucky to register significant interest. The Spurs striker has continued to struggle in front of goal without the suspended Mousa Dembele in the side and, in Gameweek 2, his star waned further when he was forced into a number 10 role to accommodate Vincent Janssen (8.0), who was Tottenham’s most attacking player against Crystal Palace. Visitors Liverpool have already shipped five goals this season, but it could be the 1.9% owned Janssen who prospers rather than Kane.

Another of last season’s stars to fall out of favour this term is Leicester’s Riyad Mahrez, who has been jettisoned by 35,000 FPL managers already this Gameweek on the back of two relatively poor displays from last season’s champions. A home tie against Swansea, however, could be the ideal fixture for the 27.9% owned midfielder to prove he is worthy of a price hike to 9.5 this season.

As a current Townsend owner I don't feel comfortable recommending anyone gets him in...! Palace look really shaky and Townsend has had his typical pot shots but not much else

I'd go Firminho to Barkley for short term gain. May bite you, but Everton fixtures are lovely. McAuley looks set for clean sheets and is doing well - no reason to sell.

Why drop Negredo? Asking because I'm weighing up bringing him in.

So, my big Andy Carroll gamble paid off - captained him, he inevitably got injured, captaincy moved to Ibra and Capoue came off the bench......

    Thanks Andy.

With that in mind, Carroll out for:

    A) Negredo - form, seems set for starts, price going up
    B) Benteke - differential, surely straight in the team, good fixtures
    C) Gray - may alternate well with Capoue in next few weeks

I'm going to keep Stones due to more pressing transfers, but you could look at freeing up some money for Walker or Valencia/Shaw if you don't have them, or bringing in an Everton defender

I mentioned it on the other page, but. Penalties.

So far this season: 8 in two 2 GW's

    Last season totalled: 91
    14/15 totalled: 89

It's worth watching what happens in the next few gameweeks but if the trend (for at least the short term) continues we're on for as much as triple (256 is unlikely let's face it but...).

    That's huge.

(I'm sure this has been discussed prior to this but it's a magnetic stat if you ask me).

    1. Limbo
      • 15 Years
      9 years, 6 months ago

With that in mind I think those ditching Tadic are going to be pretty gutted. And walcott comes right back onto the radar if his GW1 penalty is likely to be repeated (Caz? Giroud ahead?)

Snoddy / Siggurdsson / Bojan / Noble / Cabaye (tekkers?) all make interesting watchlist options.

      1. Limbo
        • 15 Years
        9 years, 6 months ago

Also think it dents clean sheets where we have players who are prone to holding in the box. Stoke immediately come to mind. I'd be worried for Man City too. Bulky 'manhandlers' are going to get punished for a few months yet.

    2. Pooodle
      • 16 Years

Especially if penalties are going to be given for 'offences' as weak as those in the Stoke-City game

It's a new rule. Holding/Shirt pulling is now a foul. Teams who concede a lot of corners will probably concede a lot of penalties and vice versa. Kane's chances could skyrocket if they can get the ball down the wings more often.

To Ibra or not to Ibra.... That is the question that is annoying the hell out of me!

    Current mid and attack is

    Hazard-Firminio -Martial-Redmond-Capoue
    Aguero-Gray-Rooney

Should be simple enough to get him in for you, lots of options.

Personally would lose Firmino and Rooney. Bojan looks an option (better than Bolasie anyway)

That's not bad move... Bojan on pens too. Was looking at Bolasie for some coverage of Evertons good fixtures coming up.

Best option in Everton defence for 5.0?

Funes Mori - stable, goal threat
Williams - solid, is he gonna start?

Would guess Holgate dropping out when Williams comes in.

      I'd not be so sure.

Coleman is out. I could easily see Holdgate pushed wider.

McCarthy was subbed and he played wider in the WB game

Eriksen is dropping tonight, I'd rather save the transfer but...

    A. Eriksen > 8.5 or less mid? (Lamela? Sterling? Snodgrass? Already have Barkley)
    B. Evans + Eriksen > Amat + Nolito for -4? Would catch two price rises but neither have great fixtures
    C. Hold Eriksen

    Thanks

    Schmeichel

    Shaw / Stones / Friend
    Capoue / Hazard / Barkley / Tadic
    Gray / Kun(c) / Ibra

    Foster / Fletcher / Amat / Kone.

    Good to go?

Got 2 FTs and no real problems in my team.. Luxury transfer ie Firmino to Lamela/Sterling sounds good? Leaves enough cash in the bank for me to swap Ramirez for an Everton mid if required

In the exact same position. Consider Firmino -> Sterling now, and wait and see if I'll need the extra FT/0.5 later this week. But fear doing so if I suddenly realize I need a 5.5 defender, and not merely a 5.0.

      1. Valar(Keith)

I can use the 0.5 to swap Ramirez for bolasie/bojan at some point. So Sterling could work perfectly

The fact u are considering throwing Lamela out and the fact that u can't decide between the Everton mids means u need to just save

I'm really uncertain about what to do with this team. 2FT. Want to get rid of Firmino, and upgrade a defender. What do you suggest?

    Foster / Jaku
    Evans / Friend / Francis / PIETERS / Amat
    Hazard / Mahrez / FIRMINO / Redmond / Capoue
    Gray / Ibra / Aguero

Looking at Sterling, Tadic, Barkley and maybe even Bolasie for the midfield spot. Would love to get Valencia in my defence. Possible one week punt, since I still consider WC after GW3.

    Suggestions?

Don't be wildcarding that after GW3 - your team looks decent, but your defence is a bit light.

If you did Firmino to Bolasie then you'd be able to upgrade Francis or Pieters to a 5.5m defender

Yeah, deliberatley light, as I planned to WC early. Still might be holding on to it. Just want to both get a decent replacement for Firmino, and get an upgrade at the back. Not sure Bolasie is good enough. Tadic might be a little to much Soton. Sterling too expensive to get an upgrade to a 5.5 at the back. Tough decisions.

I really want to do Firmino > Barkley but Barkley's price tag is putting me off. That 7.6 is basically a wasted 0.4 at this point. What's everybody elses thoughts?

Nope you will have 0.9 ITB to do Negredo to Benteke (7.4)

0.4m will be useful going forward though, now players are moving in price you don't always need 0.5m

    Here's a tough one:

    A) Go Firmino > Mahrez. Save 1FT

    B) do Tadic > Mirallas/6.5 to enable Firmino > Hazard

Don't really like either of those moves, though A looks better. Don't get rid of Tadic before a home game with Sunderland

I have 2 FTs, 0m ITB. Here is my team. I'm happy with it mostly but need to use at least one FT:

Foster (Jaku) Valencia, Stones, Friend (Amat, Smith) Hazard, Lamela, Deulofeu, Redmond (Capoue) Aguero, Zlatan, Vardy

    A. Dump Vardy (Swansea - home)
    B. Dump Deulofeu (Stoke - home)
    C. Something else
