We’ve now launched our latest captain poll to canvas your opinion on the likely favourites and differential options for the armband in Gameweek 6.

You can find the poll in the middle column of the homepage or at the bottom of the same page on mobile.

Remember, we are looking for your vote for the player you think will be most effective, regardless of whether you own them or not.

With 17 players earning double-digit Fantasy Premier League points hauls in Gameweek 5 there is already an abundance of choice for the captaincy.

That selection gets even tougher this Gameweek when early season armband favourite Sergio Aguero (12.9) returns from a three-match suspension to travel to Swansea. With three goals in as many Premier League games and Manchester City looking unstoppable as an attacking force, the Argentine is nailed on to be among the poll favourites.

For the 76% of FPL managers without Aguero his team-mates, Raheem Sterling (8.4) and Kevin De Bruyne (10.7), offer strong alternative options. The midfield duo have five goals and seven assists between them this season.

One of Gameweek 5’s double-figure FPL wonders, Romelu Lukaku (9.3), could even snatch a lead over Aguero, on the back of four goals in the last two games. The Belgian travels to a Bournemouth side that has conceded the most “big chances” in so far. Lukaku, who has the most shots on target over the last two matches, has been drafted in by 66,660 FPL managers since Saturday.

Liverpool’s midfield offers a raft of viable captaincy candidates this week.

Robert Firmino (8.4), Sadio Mane (9.0) and Philippe Coutinho (8.1), all have two goals and an assist each already and host a Hull City side that tops the goal attempts conceded both in and out of the box tables. Of that trio, Coutinho is the most owned in FPL, with 27.9 managers showing faith in him.

For those looking to take a risk a side in form, Watford offers a series of candidates ahead of their visit to Burnley: they’ve claimed just one clean sheet this season.

Etienne Capoue (4.9), the surprise leading FPL points scorer and top owned midfielder, has four goals already and will surely be promoted from the bench to many Fantasy managers’ first XI this Gameweek.

In attack, Troy Deeney (6.9)’s penalty-taking prowess could be tempting as could Odion Ighalo (7.3)’s resurgent form. The Nigerian has fired off more goal attempts than Diego Costa and Alexis Sanchez over the last two Gameweeks.

A special mention also goes to last Gameweek’s poll leader Zlatan Ibrahomovic (11.9), who has shed more than 51,000 FPL managers this week following Manchester United’s lacklustre display against Watford.

The big Swede, who has the most goal attempts of any striker over the last two Gameweeks, will be hoping to add to his four goals and assist  this term when champions Leicester City drop in on Old Trafford.

The only player to match Ibrahimovic’s goal attempt tally over the last two Gameweeks is Michail Antonio (7.3), who looks another strong armband candidate when Southampton visit the Olympic Stadium on Sunday.

Antonio’s 14% owned West Ham team-mate Dimitri Payet (9.4) is another to consider, after notching an impressive four assists in the last two Gameweeks.

We will be back to check in on progress in the poll later this week, as we deliver our “Captain Sensible” article offering our view of the results and the statistics behind the leading contenders.

Had a really bad gw can someone help me out with my team?

    Foster

    Valencia - McAuley - Baines

    Sanchez - Hazard* - Antonio - Barkley*

    Benteke - Ibra - Negredo*

    Pickford Capoue Friend Amat

2FT and 1.6m in the bank. What would you do?
Personally I am looking at Hazard + Negredo to 4.4m + Aguero and play Capoue. Thoughts?

Ibra is untouchable for me given those fixtures and has scored in every home game I think. Jose will get the team back on track surely. I can do Barkley to Firmino for -4 tho.

    A. Lamela and Vardy to Barry and Aguero; or
    B. Ozil, Lamela and Vardy to Firmino, Barry and Aguero (-4)?

Barry will be a 5th mid, Capoue becomes a starter. I have no Liverpool or West Ham midfielder cover but up top will have Aguero, Zlatan and Lukaku.

Ozil and Benteke > 4.5 and Aguero
    or
    Ibra > Aguero

    Rest of front 8
    Firmino, Antonio, Capoue, Sterling
    Benteke, Lukaku

1 gives me a clear starting team but no Arsenal attack and 2 is easier and has heavy forwards but would give me a bench headache. Any advice?

Baines doesn't have the appeal he once did with no set pieces. Also, with Mirallas on his side, he isn't overlapping as much.

I guess with pens he still edges it though.

Anyone looking at Chadli on WC? Soo many good options i midfield atm, but he really could turn out to be great value. Stoke, and Sunderland next. Even seems to be nailed at pens.

    1. makaveli123
      • 9 Years

Chadli and Rondon the obvious picks if you want offensive cover, but you should not expect WBA to score 4 goals every GW.

      1. Royal5
        • 14 Years
        9 years, 4 months ago

True, but can see WBA creating more chances with Chadli combining with Rondon. Chadli is very attacking and can´t see Pulis buying him for defending. Could be gold on the counter. Tempted to give him or even Rondon the next 2.

Everytime i look at my team trying to fit in sanchez, Ibra, Firmino, Aguero & lukaku it has to include a terrible defence.

If i switch Sanchez to Ozil it could look like this:

    Heaton / Pickford

    Williams / Evans / Amat / Zuniga / 4.7 defender

    Ozil / Firmino / Snodgrass / Capoue / Antonio

    Aguero / Lukaku / Ibra

    What do you think?

    1. Royal5

        Hmm i'm not sure.

I mean yeah they definitely look terrible but with high ownership and rivals having him i think i want to keep in case he gets a haul.

Might do Chadli instead of Antonio, would free up some cash and maybe could then afford sanchez

          • 14 Years
          9 years, 4 months ago

I think you get 2 good players for Ibra/cheapy. A lot of good mid priced options in both midfield and forwards atm. Considered Deeney? Good fixtures.

Yeh Deeney is on fire at the moment and its definitely true that you get two good players for the price instead of a premium and budget.

Had a little tinker and currently .3 short of this which is frustrating

            Heaton / pickford

            Willaims / Evans / Kone / Zuniga / Amat

            Capoue / Sanchez / Firmino /Snodgrass / Chadli

            Aguero / Ibra / Lukaku

might have to be ibra out as looking the only way...

Actually tbf I'm wrong, he had two great chances and nothing else (saved header and easy chance at the back post).

Aguero > Ibra and I can't make a team with both, but let's not pretend he won't get a tonne of goals this year.

He will, and he´s a great player. But this game is about getting the most points out of 100mill, and until United start preforming (just lost 3 games in a week) I´m using my money elsewhere.

What do u guyus think about this WC team:
      Foster (Jakupovic)
      Shaw Walker McAuley (Friend, Amat)
      Sanchez Sterling Antonio Firmino Capoue
      Aguero Lukaku (Diomande)
Sterling and Kun from ManC but they're still going score a lot of goals, thats why. What would u change?

What a team I could have if I didn't have to factor in Aguero... would De Bruyne / Costa be better than Hazard / Kun??

        Sterling + Kun is better

Is Theo Walcott not being massively overlooked here? Especially on a wildcard as an alternative to Sanchez. Has played at least 70 mins of every game so far and Ramsey will be out for another couple of weeks. He's 7.5 but as a starter would be at least 9 surely?

Too risky to go with him? Iwobi might be the one to drop out once Ramsey is back.
