We’ve now launched our latest captain poll to canvas your opinion on the likely favourites and differential options for the armband in Gameweek 6.

You can find the poll in the middle column of the homepage or at the bottom of the same page on mobile.

Remember, we are looking for your vote for the player you think will be most effective, regardless of whether you own them or not.

With 17 players earning double-digit Fantasy Premier League points hauls in Gameweek 5 there is already an abundance of choice for the captaincy.

That selection gets even tougher this Gameweek when early season armband favourite Sergio Aguero (12.9) returns from a three-match suspension to travel to Swansea. With three goals in as many Premier League games and Manchester City looking unstoppable as an attacking force, the Argentine is nailed on to be among the poll favourites.

For the 76% of FPL managers without Aguero his team-mates, Raheem Sterling (8.4) and Kevin De Bruyne (10.7), offer strong alternative options. The midfield duo have five goals and seven assists between them this season.

One of Gameweek 5’s double-figure FPL wonders, Romelu Lukaku (9.3), could even snatch a lead over Aguero, on the back of four goals in the last two games. The Belgian travels to a Bournemouth side that has conceded the most “big chances” in so far. Lukaku, who has the most shots on target over the last two matches, has been drafted in by 66,660 FPL managers since Saturday.

Liverpool’s midfield offers a raft of viable captaincy candidates this week.

Robert Firmino (8.4), Sadio Mane (9.0) and Philippe Coutinho (8.1), all have two goals and an assist each already and host a Hull City side that tops the goal attempts conceded both in and out of the box tables. Of that trio, Coutinho is the most owned in FPL, with 27.9 managers showing faith in him.

For those looking to take a risk a side in form, Watford offers a series of candidates ahead of their visit to Burnley: they’ve claimed just one clean sheet this season.

Etienne Capoue (4.9), the surprise leading FPL points scorer and top owned midfielder, has four goals already and will surely be promoted from the bench to many Fantasy managers’ first XI this Gameweek.

In attack, Troy Deeney (6.9)’s penalty-taking prowess could be tempting as could Odion Ighalo (7.3)’s resurgent form. The Nigerian has fired off more goal attempts than Diego Costa and Alexis Sanchez over the last two Gameweeks.

A special mention also goes to last Gameweek’s poll leader Zlatan Ibrahomovic (11.9), who has shed more than 51,000 FPL managers this week following Manchester United’s lacklustre display against Watford.

The big Swede, who has the most goal attempts of any striker over the last two Gameweeks, will be hoping to add to his four goals and assist  this term when champions Leicester City drop in on Old Trafford.

The only player to match Ibrahimovic’s goal attempt tally over the last two Gameweeks is Michail Antonio (7.3), who looks another strong armband candidate when Southampton visit the Olympic Stadium on Sunday.

Antonio’s 14% owned West Ham team-mate Dimitri Payet (9.4) is another to consider, after notching an impressive four assists in the last two Gameweeks.

We will be back to check in on progress in the poll later this week, as we deliver our “Captain Sensible” article offering our view of the results and the statistics behind the leading contenders.

Had a look at fixture ease and various team stats (I love a spreadsheet) and came up with this:

    Jakupovic Pickford
    Clyne Monreal Collins Smith Holebas
    Firmino Antonio Sanchez Snodgrass Capoue
    Lukaku Ighalo Aguero

    Thoughts on it?

keepers...only one of Jaku and Pickford IMO, Clyne is average too, Collins will probably be dropped, Mid and Fwd is very nice rest is a bit of a shambles

Collins will get dropped. Don't know why you'd want Wham defence anyway, Sunday league stuff recently.

Trying to decide whether KDB is worth the price diff with Sterling but I think he actually is. I think Sterling might be under rotation risk already, and even more if he has a series of 3 or 4 blanks. Only 100% nailed player (rest risk apart every 10 games) is KDB imo

You're prob right, but Sterling enables peeps like Sanchez. Right now Sterling's and KDB points total doesnt justify KDBs premium over Sterling

You got a point, but Sterling has been phenomenal (a part from the match against United). With CL and EFL Cup, I wouldn't say that KDB is 100% nailed though. They have plenty of attacking cover.

    Klopp on Firmino's fitness

“It’s all about taking risks in football - but not with players who are not 100 percent.

“We have to wait a little bit.

“Roberto is in training. We gave him yesterday (off) because medical department told me, he could have played but I decided no. They told me if we give him three days it will be perfect.

I dont understand the fascination with Ibra - at least not the Ibra I have seen, and in the United team I have been watching.

Ibra is a great striker and he will score 15-20 goals. But Lukaku and Costa will get a similar amount, if not more. United are not big scorers, and will not be big scorers, and I think a midfield upgrade to heavy hitters KDB or Sanchez is far more important than Ibra.

I made a prediction at the start of the season, and I will reiterate it - A fit Sanchez will outscore a fit Ibra. With ease.

I am on WC this week and struggling just like everyone it seems. My team so far is:

      Foster - Jaku
      Stones - Morgan - Amat - Friend - Smith - Holebas
Sterling - Sanchez - Firmino - Capoue - Marney (shitty 4.5er from Burnley)
      Aguero - Costa - Lukaku

I am little scared with regards to my lack in inflexibility in midfield if some players get rotated. I am honestly afraid of Sterling losing minutes to Sane for example, despite his brilliant form… Marney as a Sub from the bench just doesn't really do it. I would need all 4 starting players to play each week. is that too risky?

      My other option is:
Costa -> Rashford or Deeney &
      Marney -> Antonio

Deeney has great fixtures and takes pens, but otherwise doesn't really do much and Rashford almost seems nailed considering how baldy everyone else is playing… what do you think?

      Cheers

I'm in a similar situation. For now, I decided for Deeney (or Rashford) and a stronger midfield (Alexis, Mane, Antonio, Bolasie, Capoue), and defense (Shaw, Walker, McAuley, Holebas, Amat).

I am calmer when I have more players in the rotation.

Tbf also depends on the magnitude of the changes.

Like swapping between a few 4.5 defenders is of less importance than getting the big players like Aguero, Firmino, Sanchez etc.

Firmino & Kun, sterling if you can afford the City double up.

Chelsea have a bad run of games now, i'm not having any on my WC

No you don't surely need Chelsea cover of course take out Hazard for him.

I feel like I've been hit by a bus, missing all these price changes in the weekend 🙁
      I can get this attack with 2 FT and 0.3 ITB;
Ozil, Mane, Antonio, Capoue, de Roon
      Aguero, Ibra, Lukaku

      Midfield too weak?

I've got that lot, but plan to have Alexis+Firm over Ozil+Mane.

Def is cheap as chips though.

            Heaton/Pick
            Williams/Val*/Holebas/Amat/Evans

            *Val->4.5m to finance Haz->Alexis

Actually not bad. Are you not tempted by Sterling/KDB?

No, unless I sell Ibra/Lukaku. Will wait a file and reassess after Int break.

Want to get a premium Def rather.

No why is your midfield too weak if you're not ignorant like everybody is on this site then you would surely play capoue as your 4th mid.

You're in luck. Everton got a presser today.
Expect Lukaku to be rested midweek and ready for the weekend

This is just a suggestion, then make your own decision.

        To play or to bench?

        Play Williams and Dann

        Williams
Isn't Shaw a injury worry? Not Dann. Can you do Valencia? Walker is a bit pricy imo
