Spurs have worries in defence for the trip to Bournemouth. Santi Cazorla is Arsenal’s only concern for the visit of Middlesbrough, while Leighton Baines is ruled out of Everton’s trip to Turf Moor with an ongoing hamstring problem.

Here’s the round up of the press conferences so far.

Toby Alderweireld has failed to recover from a leg injury and joins Harry Kane on the sidelines as Spurs make their way to Bournemouth. Mauricio Pochettino has also revealed that Danny Rose will be assessed after picking up a foot problem against Bayer Leverkusen on Tuesday night.

Leighton Baines misses out again for Everton with an ongoing hamstring problem. Ronald Koeman has conceded it is “difficult to say how long it will take” before the left-back returns to action. Aaron Lennon is available again, though, after shrugging off a knock.

Santi Cazorla remains a doubt for Arsenal’s clash with ‘Boro after being forced off in the midweek Champions League win over Ludogorets Razgrad. Granit Xhaka starts the first of a three-match suspension. Aaron Ramsey is “progressing well” and could be back for next weekend’s trip to Sunderland.

Sunderland defensive duo Lamine Kone and Patrick van Aanholt are both back in training and have been passed fit to face West Ham tomorrow.

Miguel Britos is available for Watford’s trip to Swansea, though fellow defender Craig Cathcart is still sidelined due to a groin issue. Isaac Success (muscle) is doubtful, while the weekend comes too soon for Daryl Janmaat and Stefano Okaka, who have stepped up their recoveries from injury.

Jamie Vardy (groin), Wes Morgan (back) and Andy King (shin) all missed training yesterday as Leicester City prepare for the visit of Crystal Palace. Claudio Ranieri remains optimistic that all three will be passed fit, though remains without Nampalys Mendy due to an ankle problem. Matty James has stepped up his recovery from injury but lacks match fitness.

Scott Dann has returned to training ahead of Palace’s trip to Leicester. Alan Pardew has conceded Dann will start on the bench, though, as the Eagles look for a first clean sheet of the season.

Jurgen Klopp has confirmed he has “nothing to moan about” in terms of injury worries for the home encounter against West Brom, with Georginio Wijnaldum back in contention after shrugging off the hip problem that forced him to miss Monday’s stalemate with Man United.

Andre Ayew is back in full training for West Ham, though Slaven Bilic has conceded the Ghana international “probably won’t be in Saturday’s squad” to face Sunderland. Aaron Cresswell serves a one-match suspension as a result of his sending off against Palace last Saturday evening.

Fernando Llorente and Mo Barrow have both recovered from injury in time for Swansea’s Liberty clash with Watford. Jefferson Montero misses out in Bob Bradley’s first home match in charge.

Steven Defour is ruled out of Burnley’s home clash with Everton due to a hamstring problem picked up in last week’s loss at Southampton. Andre Gray serves the last of a four-match ban, whilst Ashley Barnes remains short of match fitness after stepping up his injury recovery with a 45-minute run-out for the reserves in midweek.

All this and more has now been updated in the Team News section ahead of tomorrow’s deadline. Keep an eye on our official Twitter Stream for breaking news – as the day unfolds, we will issue updates from Friday’s press conferences and refresh our Team News tab accordingly to keep you informed.

    Morning chaps,

I got back late last night from my Barca way trip. I think the 4-0 is a little harsh and doesn't quite justify our performance, but, you can't make mistakes like that with Messi/Suarez/Neymar around. Game was over once we got the red card. We started the game really well, pressing high and forcing them to soon make mistakes, but unfortunately the intensity wasn't kept up.

    Quick summary and assessment of the players from an FF point of view;

(I am also taking into consideration the last few games also)

Bravo - This should have been his 2nd red since joining (Rooney tackle). Doesn't fill me with any confidence, and doesn't fill our defenders with confidence. I'm not even sure he is that good at playing from the back. Do not buy for FF - not a good asset. One excellent save, but doesn't make up for the many mistakes.

Zabaleta - I would steer clear of any City defenders at the moment - even though he's guaranteed a start with Sagna injured, Zaba is not the player he was. We no longer see those bombing forward runs he used to do.

Stones - Still young and learning and makes odd mistakes when trying to play form the back. He is putting it in rowZ more than he was, but I think he needs Kompany back as a steady head at the back. Again, City defence just isn't viable at the moment. Could have scored - but can't see it coming soon.

Otamendi - Maybe our best player on the night, but not a worthy FF option.

Kolorov - Another shocking performance. Was really poor against Spurs, and this was even worse. Not good enough, and far too expensive as an FF option with little returns.

Silva - Another contender for City MOTM - majority goes through KDB now in terms of assists and set pieces. Silva will forever be the man who assists the assister. May get the odd one but would stay away as an FF buy.

Fernandino - Not a good night for someone who has been one of our best players over the last few seasons. Constant workhorse but just didn't work for him on the night. Plays too deep to consider for FF.

Gundogan - Looks a real good player and will be impertive to our challenges in each competition. Wasn't the best night for him against Barca, 6/10 maybe. I wouldn't say he's a viable FF option even at his price, there are many other nailed on players that play higher up and have set pieces. Will get the odd goal though.

Nolito - Again, another good signing, (except for the recent crazy red card). Lacks a lot of end product and this showed on the night. Should have scored - but he's just short of finishing ability that would make him a very good player. Reminds me of a David Villa type player, however at that price I can't see him getting many point returns and he'll be rotated with Sane/Navas.

Sterling - Well, what a season so far. Played well again and I didn't expect him to. I still believed he's slightly out of his depth but he's improving all the time. Not his best game, but certainly not his worst. Definitely a great FF option, I'd say it's worth getting him over KDB for the value. Menace down the wing and will pick up plenty of assists and goal points.

KDB - Another viable FF option. Very strange decision playing him in the false 9 position. Played well and created chances, but where he made stuff happen was deeper in the pitch and then there was no one in front of him. Really needs Aguero or a striker on the pitch for him to shine. Great FF option, but Sanchez and maybe even Hazard are the better picks as there will be many games where KDB doesn't pick up points from playing deep.

Aguero - Two games not starting now. I had a conversation with someone who believes that he's been benched because Guardoila thinks he's lazy. I can't agree with this - he was rested against Everton due to Int Duty, and then Pep wanted to flood the midfield against Barcelona. Wrong decision IMO.
Still an incredible FF option - however, he lacks confidence, especially with recent penalty misses. He hasn't scored many from open play, most have been pens or he's scored from KDB set piece. It wouldn't be the worst decision in the world not to have Aguero in at the moment. Lukaku and Costa are probably the best options if you are going with two heavy hitters. He'll find his form soon, and it's a risk to leave him out - but it could pay off with the majority of funds in your midfield. I for one, will be keeping him in - at least for the Southampton game.

Good read, thanks. Was going to take one more week to decide between KDB and Sanchez (have neither now, nor Sterling).

But now am wondering if I should just bring in Sanchez for a hit this week and captain him.

Who do you have as your big hitting midfield? I think it's an easy decision between Sanchez and KDB at the moment.

This could change, but right now I've have Sanchez.

        1. 42towels
          • 12 Years

          Firmino, Walcott, Antonio, Snodgrass
          Aguero, Ibra, Lukaku

Was going to captain Aguero and do Antonio to Lallana.

After reading your post, reconsidering Ibra->Austin + Antonio->Sanchez(c) for -4.

I'm not sure Austin is the best pick at the moment due to fixtures, however it looks a good move to be honest.

If it was me, I'd do it and hope Sanchez racks up the points. Ibra doesn't look like doing much at the moment.

Can you afford Deeney or maybe do Wilson instead and put Austin in once his fixtures turn for the better.

            1. 42towels
              • 12 Years
              9 years, 9 months ago

Yeah the Ibra replacement is the issue. Not convinced by Deeney and Watford, and Wilson not a good option for this week. Austin atleast has form and stats.

That's why I was leaning towards leaving Ibra in for this week, and moving him out only when I know which of Sanchez, KDB or Costa to bring in.

Very informative post. Cheers mate. So essentially, only Aguero & KDB are FF options?

      1. Badger Badger Mushroom Mush…
        • 9 Years
        9 years, 9 months ago

I'd say Aguero and Sterling (at the moment) to be honest. At KDB's price, I'd much rather have Hazard or Sanchez.

In my opinion, Sterling will drop off soon and I'd say another 7.5m options will be better - Siggy, Arnau, Walcott, Son etc. If I didn't have Sterling, I wouldn't get him now.

You have ignored Pep's obsession with rotation. 😕

Every and any City player is at risk of an unexpected benching, especially while CL is in play.

That should also be taken into account.

Definitely. Although we have started to see a trend with his main picks; Bravo, Stones, Sterling, Fernandinho KDB are all almost 100% to start if fit. I think the Stones rest against Bourenmouth was a one-off.

Interesting. Why Stones? Even with Kompany, Otamendi and Kolarov as options for CB?

Yes, Kompany will be a while off being fit. Kolarov just isn't good enough, I think he'll soon be resided to League Cup and FA cup games.
There is a reason Pep paid £45m for him - he'll forgive the odd mistakes as long as he's playing as Pep wants him to.

He did, when he had one good game - but since then he's been very poor. Even more so at LB.

I don't think so. Sterling and KDB will be rested when you least expect it. Wait and see. That's what Pep does. 😕

I'll be shocked if it's soon. In some way, Sunday is our most important game of the season. It's a must win IMO - strongest team will be played.

the thing with Aguero had to be tactical. if keeper not been sent off would have surely come on as a sub.
The other thing with City is you can argue that they don't have many other strong goal scoring options apart from Aguero.
There's a case for KDB, Sterling and maybe Nolito creeping into double figures but not much else.

    Goalkeepers
    Got Pickford/Foster.
    Don't rotate well now.
    Have Pickford because he's a 4m starter.
Do you upgrade Foster to say Schmiechel as Leicester don't concede at home and some sort of rotation with Pickford? Or just keep playing Foster and hope for the odd save point every other week? GW1 aside he hasn't done a great deal.

Still struggling to decide between Morgan and Lovren. Bot have similar home games and neither team looks like they can keep a cleanie in their upcoming away games.

Would you do Baines > Clyne - 4 or play Amat? Team looks like this:

    Holebas Pieters Amat
    Sanchez Walcott Sterling Lallana
    Aguero Lukaku Benteke

    Heaton Capoue McAuley Baines

    Sanchez (c) / Firmino / Ozil / Walcott / Capuoe
    Aguero / Lukaku

Bench: Jaku / Amat / Smith / Grabban

Is it too risking to triple-up on the Arsenal midfield? Had Walcott and Sanchez in there already and just brought in Ozil based on recent form.

    Thanks!

Well, Arsenal can only score so many goals but in the form their in it could be a 5-0 thrashing.

Just wondering how you're going to get all of those players out if/when the fixtures turn sour...

Care to help? 1 ft. 0.9 in the bank.

    Grant - Pickford
    Kos - Coleman - Lovren - Holebas - Evans
    Sanchez - Sterling - Antonio - Iwobi - Fletcher
    Aguero - Lukaku - Deeney

    A. Save, Antonio has Sunderland while Iwobi has Middlesbrough
    B. Iwobi + Antonio -> Walcott + Allen -4
    C. Just upgrade Antonio to someone like Arnautovic or Sigurdson.

    Alexis, Mane, Walcott, Snodgrass
    Aguero, Lukaku, Deeney

    1FT, bank 0.6
