A Belgian duo light up Sunday’s pair of fixtures as Romelu Lukaku grabs his customary goal against West Ham, before Eden Hazard nets for the third successive Gameweek as Chelsea see off Southampton at St Mary’s.

On the Rise

Eden Hazard
There is no doubt that Chelsea’s move to 3-4-3 has handed Hazard the freedom to flourish.

Afforded licence to drift centrally when the Blues are in possession, the revived Belgian scored for the third consecutive league outing, bagging a goal and an assist in the 2-0 triumph.

After peaking at 10.3 in Gameweek 5, he has dropped to 9.8 in recent weeks, yet an explosive return to form – having notched against Leicester City and Manchester United – could now trigger a transfer scramble.

Sunday’s 14-point haul was Hazard’s highest of the season and takes him to just seven points off the top of the FPL midfield standings.

Romelu Lukaku
Second only to Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho for acquisitions ahead of Gameweek 10, Lukaku was also the most-captained player by the top 100 FPL managers.

The Everton striker justified that show of faith with a goal and assist against West Ham and is now the top scoring FPL forward.

His run of consistent displays under Ronald Koeman shows no sign of abating – Lukaku has served up points in six of the last seven Gameweeks ahead of next weekend’s trip to Chelsea.

Diego Costa
A superb second-half strike at St Mary’s maintained a remarkable run that has harvested FPL points in eight of Costa’s first 10 Gameweeks.

Yet again he kept out of trouble and remains on four yellows – impressively, Costa has been booked in just one of the last six league matches.

Although there’s been a recent clamour for 3-5-2 due to the number of high-scoring midfielders, the Costa, Lukaku and Sergio Aguero front line is becoming increasingly appealing for those prepared to invest big funds up top.

In saying that, Hazard is now only one point behind Costa and 0.5 cheaper.

Yannick Bolasie
After finding the net against Burnley in Gameweek 10, Bolasie is another player to shed his erratic form under Koeman.

An assist for Lukaku’s opener means he has now produced points in five of the previous seven Gameweeks.

Arguably the only guaranteed starter in the Everton attacking midfield three, his assist was the fourth of the season – already bettering last term’s tally of three while at Palace.

For those already holding Lukaku, though, Everton’s upcoming schedule – which hands them encounters with Chelsea, Southampton and Manchester United in the next four – may well deter a double-up.

Victor Moses
Handed a fourth straight start as a right wing-back by Antonio Conte, the Chelsea midfielder provided the assist for Hazard’s opener.

Moses was also amongst the goals in the Gameweek 8 win over Leicester City and seems to have cemented a regular role in the Blues’ 3-4-3 formation.

Priced at just 5.5 in FPL, the Nigerian international offered a decent goal threat throughout Sunday’s clash and, having convinced Conte of his worth, may yet emerge as a viable budget midfield option.

Cesar Azpilicueta & Marcos Alonso
It’s four clean sheets in as many matches for the Blues since the change of tactics.

Again, the Spanish defender’s suitability to the bonus points system prevailed and helped him to a pair of additional points at St Mary’s.

Impressively, Azpilicueta has been awarded bonus points in six of the first 10 Gameweeks and has collected at least one extra point on the five occasions that his side has registered a shut-out.

Sitting in 11% of FPL sides, he’s now climbed to joint-fourth in the defender rankings, level with Arsenal’s Hector Bellerin on 45 points.

Even so, with John Terry looming as a factor on the bench and Kurt Zouma soon to return from injury, it’s not yet clear if Conte will keep faith with his current back-three in the mid-term. Marcos Alonso, at left wing-back, therefore appears to offer a more secure option.

Ross Barkley
Barkley nudged back onto the radar with a finely taken volley for the Toffees’ second.

Unlike his fellow midfielder Bolasie, this was Barkley’s first attacking returns since Gameweek 2, when he earned an assist away to West Brom.

Having dropped to the bench as recently as Gameweek 8, Barkley is unlikely to clamber ahead of Bolasie for those eyeing up the Everton midfield. A price tag of 7.2 to the former Eagles winger’s 6.0 means that Barkley remains peripheral in our thoughts for now.

In Decline

Phil Jagielka
The Everton skipper went into Sunday’s match as their top scoring defender, having started all nine of the opening fixtures.

Dropped to the bench as Ramiro Funes Mori came in alongside Ashley Williams, Jagielka’s absence coincided with the Toffees’ first clean sheet in six Gameweeks.

Funes Mori earned a single bonus point to return seven points and stake a claim for regular inclusion, though the upcoming schedule hardly appears conducive to clean sheets.

Winston Reid
The West Ham skipper toppled off the Suspension Tightrope after earning his fifth yellow card of the season.

Reid had racked up 29 points in the previous three Gameweeks but now sits out the Gameweek 11 home clash with Stoke.

With Spurs, United, Arsenal and Liverpool in the subsequent four, clean sheets may well be in short supply for Slaven Bilic’s side.

    Sanchez - Hazard - Chadli - Firmino - Allen

    or

You must be heavy in defence or have a poor team value?

If balanced you should be able to get -
      Sanchez Hazard Firmino/Coutinho Redmond 4.5
      Aguero Lukaku Austin

oh i see. the move will pay off im sure. Fuchs will be a great option for the coming gws, hazard is in undeniable form and sure to see price rises and austin is far better value over benteke who maybe isnt the dream value pick many of us thought hed be. His also coming into some fixtures where he meets some good defensive teams.

Err.. Look at your playing defenders. You benched Stones and then are taking a -4 to do Valencia to Fuchs. Stones just got a CS and so you could easily play him instead of getting Fuchs in for a -4.

    Good morning DZ.

Really need to sort my team out.

Deeney, Mata, Marshall and Wilson are the players that worry me.

Also is it time to lose Payet and Koscielny for Chelsea/Lei players?

Sanchez, Firmino, Aguero, Smith and Holebas are the key performers for me.

    2FTs and 0.1m ITB.

    Suggestions?

    Thanks.

I would lose Payet. WHU looked so out of sorts. All that tinkering with lineup isn't great for player consistency. Antonio was a headless chicken. Obiang and Kouyate had no clue what they were doing.

Definitely. Mata should continue in the side for awhile but you never know with Jose. I think Payet out at that price point is the right switch.

Mata can be a bargain at this price if he's nailed. Good thing Fellaini will fill the Herrera void in the next game so Mata is relatively safe to start.

      A's enough.

By all reports Mane could have scored the same as Hazard this gw, so if he did you probably wouldn't be contemplating B.

Stick with Mane. Has the same explosive potential as Hazard and better fixtures.

        Yep should have added that.

Deeney to Austin and Snodgrass to Redmond.

Can't do Snodgrass unless I do the Deeney transfer first.

Deeney to Austin makes sense. The hit might be abit tricky given 2 tough fixtures following. Would essentially be a one week punt in some way.

I already have him so abit biased but would consider Chadli - so so fixture this weekend but could get in the points and then it's a good run of fixtures. Saves yourself a transfer down the line and possibly be ahead of the curve a little.

Redmond's abit point chasey if you ask me.

          1. devils advocate
            • 11 Years
            9 years, 4 months ago

Yeah would prefer Chadli but only have 6.1mil to spend for the Snodgrass spot after bringing Austin in.

I can then bring Chadli in for Redmond later if I downgrade Allen, but that will take another 2 gws to make happen.

So Redmond would essentially be a 3 gw punt which could be risky.

I have neither but if I wanted one with those fixtures coming up..would be Redmond..Deeney vs Austin I would keep Deeney tbh..not a lot to choose from for the 3rd forward..and Deeney still got some nice fixtures coming up

      Obviously looks great BB.

The Chelsea factor will be well discussed over the week so you can get some insight from the boards. But definitely wouldn't panic. You've got a great team structure there imo.

Walcott could become someone more budget friendly like Chadli/Remond/Stanislas over the coming weeks if Haz becomes impossible to ignore.

Would also keep an open mind on Kosc. He's been great but a move to CHE/TOT defence could be a good move soon.

      1. bigbudgie

Definitely thinking of the Kos downgrade Shifty, a LEI defender is a good choice. But then again not sure where I would put the money, Possibly a Lukaku>Costa move but no reason to do that right now. Will keep a budget 3rd striker and Austin has the fixtures. Possibly Kos can facilitate one of the Liverpool guys to Haz.

At the moment Chelsea is a wait and see. Not getting carried away. To get Haz means either a straight swap with Sanchez or two moves and I don't like either of those.

People talking about Arsenal's next two versus Chelsea but I think it's balanced over the next 5

ARS: TOT mun BOU whu STO
CHE: EVE mid TOT mci WBA

Yea you have 2 options as a Chelsea bank - Kosc or Walcott. I think Walcott needs a run in the side to really be a good FPL prospect but that might change with Ramsey/Giroud back.

I really do like the Liverpool double up though as they're definitely going to get points. Thing with Hazard is that he will have high involvement in Chelsea points and is a bonus fiend - almost no competition unlike the liverpool mids. A tough one. Have Mane Coutinho and willing to see how it pans out.

Agree on the Sanchez move...would be too extreme. Sanchez is more expensive but I just think his style is perfect for FPL and being able to fit both Haz and Sanchez is key.

What are your thoughts on Arsenal defenders? Lucky to getaway against Boro and silly penalty vs Sunderland.

Time to get a Lei/Soton/Che defender?

      1. bigbudgie
        • 11 Years

Depends. I think you choose your approach. Either go for budget friendly players from solid teams with good fixtures and put your money elsewhere or stick with a premium defender slot for the season (team structure should allow for this). With TV increasing it's easier to own a premium. Sometimes they can kill rank as Arsenal will be up there with the most clean sheets at the end of the season. Toby A was hurting me all last season! If you see the real benefit in using the extra money I'd go for it though.

How much do you believe the team you support affects how you play FPL?

Personally I support a lower league club which I believe helps to make me impartial in FPL.

But do you believe you select more players from the team you support? I think many do whether it is consciously, subconsciously or just that you know those players better than ones from other sides and therefore select more of them.

Or are you the opposite? At least then if your own team has had a bad day you may have something to smile about. Or maybe you believe that selecting your clubs players will bring your bad luck down upon your team in real life.

The fact that Zlatan is still owned by 35% of players surely can only be explained by the masses of Man Utd supporters around the world and the many dead teams they selected at the start of the season

    1. Usmanov

Firstly I believe that the 35% of Ibra owners are partly from dead accounts. I see what you are saying though, to start with I avoided buying players who are versing LFC but have now stopped that

Doesn't really affect me. It did when i started playing FPL but now i compartmentalize.

But it does give me some insight to try and make unbiased calls. Ditched Ibra after the first couple of games because I felt our system wasn't going to get goals - pedigree aside. Also had a long chat with a PSG fan friend and he was convinced Ibra would do well in Sep/October but fade off from November onwards - he's been spot on so far. "It's just the way Ibra is", he said.

    4. fedolefan
      • 11 Years

It plays a huge part imo. Am an Arsenal fan and having seen them concede such soft goals (4-4 Newcastle, omg), I can never trust our defense, no matter how good it is. Explains why I refuse to get Kos and Bellerin no matter the fixtures.

    5. Sharpe Shuffle
      • 10 Years
      9 years, 4 months ago

It tends to affect me more at the start of the season. Started last year with Shaw and Rooney, quickly got rid of both (Shaw due to injury). Started this season with Zlatan and Valencia, now I have neither. I don't think I kept Zlatan longer than I would've done if he played for another team.

In general, I prefer not owning United players as it's a double whammy of disappointment when they don't perform. Right now that's a fairly easy decision as they're all overpriced relative to their performance.
