With the Gameweek programme cut in half over the weekend, Saturday provides us with just five matches and a quartet of afternoon kick-offs.

Manchester City undoubtedly provides the headline act, with thousands of Fantasy Premier League armbands on Sergio Aguero and similarly huge expectations surrounding Ilkay Gundogan – he’s enjoyed more than 474,000 new investors ahead of today’s deadline.

The big news from the Etihad finds Raheem Sterling, subject to big sales and a further price drop this week, seemingly rested by Pep Guardiola for the meeting with Middlesbrough. That will surely seal a further decline over the international break.

Elsewhere, Bournemouth head into the Vitality Stadium meeting with basement dwellers Sunderland looking to maintain strong home form but without striker Callum Wilson who misses out with a knock.

At Turf Moor, Tom Heaton will look to boost his burgeoning save count and FPL reputation when Crystal Palace pay visit, while Joe Allen takes his own blossoming form to the London Stadium as Stoke City face West Ham.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Kun will score a hat-trick here.

1-0 down, MID won't get anything out of this match now if they continue with 11 players inside the their own box.

To be fair, if not for Valdes this scoreline should be more.

    MID defensive form myth busted.

      "MID defensive form myth busted."

To be fair they looked solid before the goal

Just letting Navas fart around then hit a rubbish cross

Albeit at the expense of any attacking whatsoever

      1. devils advocate
        • 12 Years
        9 years, 8 months ago

        Looked solid? Really??

City were all over them in that half. They made numerous runs in the box at will and had numerous chances.

Only thing in their way was some fine keeping from Valdes and a couple off side decisions.

Aguero came close on at least 3 occasions before scoring.

Only thing we can agree on is that Navas is pants. 😉

Still think Burnley are going to go down. No team can keep up conceding this many shots whilst taking so few themselves.

Hull and Sunderland will be adrift. Think Burnley have as good a chance as a few others like Swansea.

      9 years, 8 months ago

People forget how early in the season it is. After the Christmas fixtures where matches come hard and fast I think you start to get a good idea of how things will shape up. Tough to maintain all out defence like Burnley are doing for a whole season.

      1. Somalion
        • 16 Years
        9 years, 8 months ago

But with that all said, there are others I think are in far more trouble than Burnley. At least Burnley have some points on the table.

Stealing a few wins early in the season will definitely help them but I can see them going on a very bad run if Heaton stops making tons of saves every game.

            Home saves: 29 (6.5 games) = 4.4 PPG
            Away saves: 32 (4 games) = 8PPG

I'd say he's only been saving their backside away from home.

              • 14 Years

I don't think saves is that good of a metric. He only had 5 saves against Liverpool and they had about 30 shots. I'd guess they are conceding more shots than most relegation threatened teams.

    4. Nabs Kebabs

They are very hard to beat at home.

Even being hard to beat at home isn't good enough. They need to win games at home not draw them.

Anyone excited for some cheap Newcastle options next season? They've been smashing it in the championship, but will they revert back to the Newcastle knew too well last season? Gayle and Mitrovic certainly look worth monitoring if either is guaranteed starts.

Gotta say, this is the most optimistic I've been about the direction of the team since Bobby Robson. Think we're really gonna surprise some people next year. The whole way the club is being run has changed, and we have a genuinely top quality manager being backed to do whatever he wants with the team.
