We have five matches still to savour this Sunday before the third international break of the season is upon us.

First up, there’s the small matter of a north London derby at the Emirates as Arsenal take on goal-shy Tottenham Hotspur.

Alexis Sanchez looks for a fourth double-figure haul of the season after last week’s brace at Sunderland, whilst the Gunners are boosted by the return of Theo Walcott.

Subject to more transfers out than any player last week, Walcott has netted four of his five goals at the Emirates this season.

Spurs, meanwhile, wasted no time in recalling the fit-again Harry Kane to the first XI as they look to improve a recent that’s harvested a mere three goals in their last six in all competitions.

Arsenal have been solid at the back in front of their own fans, though, chalking up five clean sheets in the previous six Emirates fixtures.

Their prospects are boosted further by the return of first-choice full-backs Hector Bellerin and Nacho Monreal, who, like Walcott, have shrugged off minor injuries in times for today’s derby.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

    Wimmer onside

Kos & Sanchez clearly playing him on
    Goal.

Koscielny wasn't offside, the first freeze was a bit late. Sanchez made no movement towards the ball however.

The ball came towards him, and wimmer had to defend the ball from him

No, the rules are about movements towards the ball, the ball was heading to an onside Koscielny.

^This. The rule certainly is not that player commits offside foul by being in a place where the ball is moving at. It is about the movement that the player makes towards the ball.

Agree on that the first freeze was a splitsecond after Ozil made contact so hard to tell

Goal shouldnt stand imo, Wimmer had to make contact with ball due to offsiders coming in behind

      Idc though, no Spurs cleansheet!

Whether they were in offside position or not, an action should meet the specific criteria of foul to be called a foul. Nobody certainly made any offside foul based on any old instructions, so this could only possibly be a case of the new addition to offside rule:

“clearly attempts to play a ball, which is close to him when this action impacts on an opponent”

      or

“makes an obvious action, which clearly impacts on the ability of an opponent to play the ball”.

The 2nd certainly is not the case, but could the first be? The paradigmatic case is when a player tries to head/shoot, but misses the ball that then passes the GK who was preparing to save the shot/header that never came.

The present case was far from that: players ran in the space where the ball could have come was it not headed by Wimmer, and ball wasn't even close enough to them that they could have played it.

So the question is: is the new addition meant to also define as offside fouls the cases where a player is in offside position and defender plays the ball to avoid ball getting to the said player, or not? What I remember, nothing like that has been clearly defined as an offside foul in instructions for referees, and if that is the case it should also not be called an offside.

Sanchez & Rashford to Walcott & Kane

True. Walcott just represents really good value (if he can remain fully fit for a good run of games) and I'm all about that value 😛

Ozil is the best Cover for Arsenal
His returns just Happened to come in UCL
He will now do it in PL also
And with Giroud, Ozil will only benefit the Most.

    1. Pariße

Indeed. Sanchez was not interfering with the play, Koscielny was and he was onside. Wimmer made an attempt to head it, even if it eventually came to Sanchez, Koscielny was the one that made him head it.
