Alexis Sanchez strikes a timely double with Theo Walcott providing an able midfield sidekick as Arsenal see off Bournemouth. Meanwhile, the Saints’ Charlie Austin’s ascent as a mid-price frontman is proving hard to ignore, as another blank from Everton’s Romelu Lukaku sees his transfer exodus pick up pace. Here’s the Stock Check from Sunday’s quartet of matches.

On the Rise

Alexis Sanchez
The Chilean followed Sergio Aguero’s lead by bagging a brace as Arsenal got the better of Bournemouth at the Emirates.

Doubts had been mounting over Sanchez’ value for money – he’d blanked in five of the previous six and had scored just once at home prior to Sunday’s performance.

With Olivier Giroud back on the bench, though, Sanchez was deployed as the central striker once again and served a timely reminder of his armband potential by producing a fifth double-figure haul of the season.

In a weekend when Kevin De Bruyne was benched for City’s trip to Burnley and Philippe Coutinho’s ankle injury potentially sparking a major exodus, Sanchez’ appeal has clearly been boosted by recent events.

Theo Walcott
Utilised as a sub against PSG in midweek, Walcott was reinstalled to Arsene Wenger’s first XI for the Cherries’ encounter.

The wide man has how started 12 of the opening 13 league fixtures – only missing the Gameweek 10 trip to Sunderland with a minor injury.

Today’s haul takes him onto 71 points – that’s fifth amongst midfielders and just two behind Roberto Firmino.

Having managed just two 10+ points hauls, Walcott may lack Sanchez’ explosive appeal, yet, at a price of 7.8, he continues to offer excellent value for money in the mid-price bracket.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic
After netting twice at Swansea in Gameweek 11, the big Swede took his tally to three goals in his last two as he hints at a step up in consistency.

Indeed, this was the first time Ibrahimovic has scored in back-to-back top-flight appearances since Gameweek 2, having missed last week’s clash with Arsenal due to suspension.

After a series of inconsistent displays, it’ll take more than today’s goal to convince many to reconsider Ibrahimovic, yet with some fine fixtures to follow, he’s likely to remain United’s chief attacking force over the festive period.

Charlie Austin
The Southampton forward took his tally to six goals in nine Gameweeks by netting a quick-fire winner against Everton earlier this afternoon.

Despite being devoid of both Dusan Tadic and Sofiane Boufal, Claude Puel was once again able to rely on Austin to carry the Saints’ main threat – he has now been involved in 77.8% of his side’s goals when on the pitch.

Having started each of the last eight, any concerns over Austin’s minutes look unfounded. With clashes against Palace, Middlesbrough, Stoke and Bournemouth in the next four, he looks well set to keep on delivering value for money at just 6.8.

Cedric Soares
Southampton’s right-back continues to look like a lucky charm for Puel.

A 1-0 win over Everton means that the Saints have chalked up a clean sheet in each of the last five league matches that Cedric has started.

Priced at just 4.9, he’s the cheapest route into the St Mary’s rearguard and underlined his value for money by also chipping in with two bonus points today.

Having also kept out Liverpool last week, Southampton’s defence looks ripe for investment right now, with Puel’s outfit set for some excellent upcoming fixtures to augment their appeal.

Dimitri Payet
The Frenchman’s cross for Diafra Sakho’s opener at Old Trafford means he now has six assists in 11 appearances.

Considering he managed a total of 13 assists last season, Payet’s upturn in creative output is worth monitoring. Indeed, he has now provided 11 key passes more than any player over the first 13 Gameweeks.

Granted, West Ham’s next two matches – against Arsenal and Liverpool – may persuade many to overlook him for now.

Nonetheless, the schedule from Gameweek 16 onwards, which kick starts with back-to-back home clashes against Burnley and Hull, could see that 9.7% FPL ownership climb sooner rather than later.

In Decline

Romelu Lukaku
It’s one goal in the last five fixtures now for the Everton frontman, who is already the most transferred out forward in the Gameweek by some margin.

Even the underlying numbers afford little optimism – a single off-target free-kick was all Lukaku had to offer today as the Toffees’ slide down the table continues.

With clashes against United, Arsenal and Liverpool in the next four, the big Belgian seems set for a significant exodus as the schedule turns against Ronald Koeman’s side.

Olivier Giroud
Despite netting for the fifth time in as many appearances with a strike against PSG, the Frenchman remains unable to find a way into the Arsenal first XI in the Premier League.

Many expected Giroud to start up after he led the line in midweek but he was again utilised off the bench and has yet to start a league match this season.

Granted, he supplied a late assist to vindicate the 50,000+ transfers in last week but with Sanchez and Walcott grabbing the goals, Giroud remains no more than a Plan B.

Wenger’s post-match confirmation that Giroud picked up a hamstring problem and is set to be assessed merely strengthens the idea that Sanchez will remain the central striker for next week’s trip to West Ham.

Carl Jenkinson
We’d expected the Arsenal right-back to offer a decent short-term option in the absence of Hector Bellerin but, having started against PSG in midweek, Jenkinson was omitted from the squad altogether this afternoon.

Wenger was made to rue his decision to start Mathieu Debuchy when the Frenchman limped off within 20 minutes due to a hamstring injury, with Gabriel his replacement. Jenkinson may well be handed a reprieve for next week’s clash with the Hammers but with Bellerin expected back in mid-December, the former looks best avoided.

Wilfried Bony, Bojan
Bony and Bojan were marked as the fall guys for last week’s home loss to Bournemouth as both dropped down to the bench for the Potters’ trip to Watford.

Bony had started nine straight matches since arriving on loan from Man City but with midweek reports suggesting that his parent club could sell the Ivorian over the winter window, Mark Hughes opted to bench him despite switching tactics and opting for two up front.

Bojan’s omission was just as surprising, given that Joe Allen sat out today’s fixture due to suspension. Installed to the starting XI for the first time in seven Gameweeks last weekend, the Spaniard’s immediate demotion is indicative of how far he’s fallen under Hughes this season.

Allen owners, meanwhile, will be optimistic he could return to the role in “the hole” at home to Burnley next weekend after he was shifted to the double-pivot against the Cherries last time out.

Juan Mata
We had hopes that Juan Mata could emerge as a viable option but the Spaniard was hauled off just after the hour-mark against West Ham, suggesting his minutes will continue to be in question. That’s likely a symptom of Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s return to the United reckoning which could dent Mata’s pitch time from here on.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

    Lukaku out for?
    A) Kane
    B) Costa

    Means downgrading Gundogan/Allen.

Do I keep Hazard or get Sanchez back in?

    I have a front 8 of
Mane Firmino Walcott KDB Redmond Costa Lukaku Defoe

To get Kane, i will have to downgrade a mid beside losing Lukaku
Shall i drop Firmino or KDB ? , And to who ?

      Drop Firm imo.

Possible knock (although probably nothing serious). But I wouldn't go with two Pool mids with Lallana and Cout probably out for a few. Long term fixtures aren't as good as everyone makes them either imo.

Siggy is a very popular choice on here given his involvement and their upcoming fixtures. How much do you have to spend?

      1. dark91

If i do Lukaku to Kane, i will have to downgrade Firmino to a max. of 7.4

Siggy is a very good option at his price with the upcoming fixtures and goal involvement. 2 Pool mids is too much with the current situation in my humble opinion.

Also I think Redmond is too expensive for a 5th midfielder. Defoe -> Austin could also be an option to get som cash, but don't think it is enough.

I was against the idea of doubling up on Liverpool mids since the beginning, Always had Mane and only got Firmino before this GW

I think i will drop KDB to Siggy and Lukaku to Kane now and see later what else to fix

Thanks for your help, I appreciate 🙂

              You are welcome.

Remember that just because you just brought in a player, that doesn't mean you can't transfer him out right away. Stubbornness is deadly in FPL 🙂

I don't see the Firm/Mane continuing their form if Coutinho is out for a while and Lallana isn't back soon.

Origi/Sturridge will probably start up top and a lot of their creativity is missing. Also the fixtures aren't as good as people make them imo.

Not sure when they are going to change him to the best value third striker in the game but for now they can leave him differential.

Personally I would get Hazard in that team. Sacrifice one of Firm/Walcott imo.

How long is Friend out? The flag says he will be back next week, but someone on here said it was still 2-3 weeks.

Grant could be benched soon if Butland regains his spot.

Can is risky, but at his price it could work out.

Some would suggest that you would get in Kane instead of Costa for the next 4. Hoping Costa will get his 5th yellow 😉

Not a fan of Lovren either, but I am trying to avoid Pool defence.

Looks like I'll be doing this for a -4 hit:
Coutinho, Rondon out - De Roon, Kane in (leaves 1.0itb)

    Will give me:
    Foster
    Alonso, Fuchs, Pieters
    Hazard, Firmino, Siggy, Allen
    Aguero, Kane (c), Costa

    Jaku, De Roon, Holebas, Amat

I suppose I'll give Fuchs 1 more week v Sunderland but I just know Leicester will concede goals. I'm hoping a full week off with no cl will freshen Fuchs up because he's playing like a mug.

£0.1m short of Lukaku to Costa unfortunately as I bought Lukaku at £9.2m 🙁 Would find it very difficult to downgrade anyone else to fund Kane. May have to just take the price drop if I'm being this indecisive!

    Genuine question.

    Why Phillips over Zaha?

Seen both mentioned in here a lot

Personally I'm figuring Philips on form, the fixtures are pretty close

But I've not really watched much of either this season...

I think it is because the upcoming couple of fixtures.

Would personally prefer Zaha long term (although I sold him in gw 11).

also because I don't believe Phillips will be as involved in attacks, when Chadli eventually returns...

      I chose Zaha. Both.good,options

Zaha is certainly less of a rotation risk. McClean and Chadli both came on late for WBA so are back now. Plus West Brom's games aren't the best so don't really see too much appeal in Philips.

Palace have Hull which is great and then they have Man Utd at home which is a game I'm sure Zaha will be eager to impress in.

I've said it before and i'll say it again.

I've watched football for a lot longer than most on here...right back to the sixties....Most old farts always say the "olden days" players were better than the current players, for whatever reason they just do.

I'm bucking the trend...I've never seen a better player in top flight football than Alexis Sanchez, maybe a few as good, but nobody better. Fantastic player.

      Suarez was better 😉

He's one that could keep him company. Similar style of play and relentless energy.

Similar players for sure. Only thing about Sanchez is that when he is having an off day or things aren't working out he sometimes plays worse (while trying hard). Suarez was more consistent with end product I think.

I thought he was fantastic at Liverpool. Just like Sanchez he earned every single goal he ever scored.

I love Sanchez but I think he's still got a bit to go to reach top 5 or there abouts imo.

In years to come the three players that will be remembered as the best of our current crop, imo, will be..and in order...

        1.Aguero 2.Sanchez 3.Hazard

But actually when you watch them Aguero is just(!) the best striker by a country mile playing for the best attacking team. Hazard is the best dribbler...But it's Sanchez who has the best all round game...and by a distance.

I would agree with this. I'd really like to see Sanchez and Arsenal win something though.
Alltime greats you could make a case for Dalglish, Bergkamp, Henry, Scholes, Gerrard, With likes of Ginola, Giggs, Drogba Cantona worth a shout.
No defenders, goalies or def mids ever mentioned but hon mentions to Schmeichal, cech, Vidic, Terry & Viera.

          Oh & CR7......

          *logs off* 😉

I definitely agree that Alexis is an extremely gifted player in almost every way. He is a pleasure to watch and today wasn't an exception. Definitely one of the best players at the moment.

Followed a discussion earlier about some of the greatest players in PL history. Never saw Scholes mentioned, which kind of surprised me. Perhaps I am biased as a United fan, but he is one of the best players I have witnessed in my (shorter) history of watching football.

Scholes was gifted in one very under rated area. He knew exactly when and how to play the game "simple"...

SAF once said he was the most skillful player at United but knew when to leave that on the training ground. That's quite something when you consider just how many skillful players United had over the years that he was there.

Walker and Defoe or Kane and 4.6?

Kane. in next 4 games he should score a lot.

Not many viable 4.6s sadly, so that'd push me to Walker and Defoe. FWIW though, I reckon Spurs will be good for clean sheets in the medium-term
