With a home tie against a Swansea City side that has shipped 11 goals in their last four league outings, Harry Kane (10.8) is surely set to be among the front-runners at the top of this week’s Captain poll.

Already subject to more than 28,000 transfers in since Saturday morning, it is clear many Fantasy Premier League managers are already looking to secure the 7.7% owned striker in their squads ahead of this fixture.

His team-mate Christian Eriksen (8.1) could provide an interesting differential for those shunning the Spurs striker. His goal against Chelsea had been long overdue, with the 4.7% owned Dane having more goal attempts than any other midfielder without scoring in the previous four matches.

Even though Chelsea prevailed 2-1 in that encounter, Eriksen’s strike demonstrated that the Blues 3-4-3 formation, which had kept six clean sheets in a row prior to Gameweek 13, can be breached.

This puts 43.9% owned Sergio Aguero (13.1) firmly in the running for a shot at the summit of this week’s poll, when Manchester City welcome Antonio Conte’s troops to the Etihad this weekend.

With a brace and maximum FPL bonus against Burnley on Saturday, the Argentine’s stock has increased markedly since his disappointing blank away to Crystal Palace in Gameweek 12.

His 10.9% owned team-mate Kevin De Bruyne (10.8) was only a substitute at Turf Moor but is expected to start for this top of the table match to present a solid alternative.

In contrast, City’s defence has been poor all season, having kept just two clean sheets. This retains the 43.7% owned Diego Costa (10.6) as a strong contender, having scored or assisted in all bar one of his six away league games this term.

However, it would be a surprise to see 32.8% owned Eden Hazard (10.2) feature highly, having recorded just the one goal and a single assist on this travels, and with blanks in his last two Gameweeks.

Like Aguero, Alexis Sanchez (11.3) was another premium player to serve up a brace in Gameweek 13, during Arsenal’s 3-1 home victory over Bournemouth.

The Chilean travels to a West Ham side that also suffers frailties in defence, conceding five goals in their last four home encounters. Meanwhile, the 22.7% owned midfielder, who continues to be fielded as a central striker by Gunners boss Arsene Wenger, has scored five of his eight goals on the road.

Despite a six-game scoring drought earlier this season, Zlatan Ibrahimovic (11.1) has remained a popular captaincy choice, with 13.01% of FPL managers handing him the armband in Gameweek 13.

He rewarded them with a goal and maximum bonus at home to West Ham, which could yet see him figure highly in this week’s poll, ahead of a trip to Goodison Park. The Toffees have failed to keep a clean sheet since Gameweek 10 and will be low on confidence after Sunday’s 1-0 defeat away to Southampton.

Philippe Coutinho’s likely absence this weekend through injury, when Liverpool travel to Bournemouth, leaves Roberto Firmino (8.8) and Sadio Mane (9.2) as the key captaincy contenders among the Reds’ ranks.

Of the two, the Brazilian has the edge over his Senegalese team-mate on the road, in terms of both shooting accuracy and chance creation.

Firmino took a knock at the end of  Saturday’s 2-0 home victory over Sunderland but is expected to be fit in time for the weekend.

Sunderland’s hosting of a Leicester City side which has conceded a joint league high 16 goals on their travels, presents the poll with a duo of differential armband options.

Seven goals this campaign has taken 19% owned Jermaine Defoe (7.5)’s FPL points tally to 74, just one behind Aguero, making him a strong contender in this week’s vote.

Considering the porous nature of the Foxes’ defence, Defoe’s cut-price team-mate Victor Anichebe (4.6) also emerges as an intriguing option. The 3.2% owned Nigerian has scored three goals in as many games since breaking into the Black Cats first XI earlier this month.

Joining Leicester with 16 goals conceded away from home is Hull City, which offers the chance for Alvaro Negredo (6.2) to garner votes when the Tigers visit Middlesbrough. Against the Foxes at the weekend he served up a brace, his first league goals since Gameweek 1.

We will be back to check in on progress in the poll later this week when we deliver our “Captain Sensible” article offering an analysis of the results and the statistics behind the leading contenders.

I picked Alexis as cap this week mainly coz on tv and Hazard clashed with the Leeds game 😛 . Obviously i knew Sanchez a good option but it got me wondering, do you sometimes make cap choices based on similar reasons, ie not just stat or gut based, and does it ever work?

Yeah whenever I go to a PL game I usually captain a player in that game.

Worked with Aguero this season and not so well with Cabeye at Villa Palace last year 😀

Just a heads up on the Captain Poll for mobile - we have that fix tested and it should go live today, along with adding the vote totals on mobile/tablet.

Can I put forward a website suggestion please? A notifications icon in the top right hand corner. A bit like Facebook. It is numbered - 3 means 3 unread responses. When you click on it, it shows your replies and you can click through to them.

I don't know about other people but I never keep my emails open to keep up with replies. Switching between emails and FFS is a drag, especially on mobile and tablet devices.

      Thank you.

Just thought this should go here.

      The Giggs Boson Story.

About GW7, we got news from a regular around these parts (The Fantasy Football Freak) that Giggs Boson was not keeping too well. He mentioned to TFF that he had given up on his season and will not be playing anymore.

A few of us didn't like the idea of this though. We asked him if we could take the reigns of his team and managed to score his ID and password. On a weekly basis, we have a discussion regards the transfers for his team.

Here's the good news. We believe Giggs Boson is doing better now.

Not only that, when we got reigns of his team, his rank was 1.25 mil in GW7.

We're into GW13. It's taken us only 6 GWs and no hits to get his rank to

      *drumroll*

      149k. (A massive 79 this week)

We're targetting a top 10k season for him now. Get well soon GB and well done the boys who have handled his team.

      Here's his team link https://fantasy.premierleague.com/a/entry/831/history

Others would call this rough but I will call it almost a smooth:

Sold Aguero and Bolasie for a hit, and got in Mahrez and a one week punt on Giroud. Lost out 14-13 and with the -4 that is a 5 point deficit, but...
I have already brought in Kane with the extra cash and am able to go with an Aguerloess six premium attackers experiment and Alonso, Clyne, Cedric as my defenders. Plus, I have a massive differential in Mahrez.

Will try to hold off on Aguero back in for the next month, not sure if I can go through with it.

Rough - Captained Coutinho like most people.

Smooth - Lovren, Sanchez, Mane, Aguero, Benteke, Austin.

Also didn't make a transfer so 2 for this week with Coutinho needing to go.

P.S. Hats off to Jonty's Goals Imminent table this week can't remember it having a better week.

        Rough:

        Captained Coutinho...that was fun.

Enjoyed a mighty 2 points from my defence of Holebas, Amat and Koscielny.

        42 all out, rank doubled.

Could definitely have been worse though - Austin, Walcott and Aguero came through to prevent complete meltdown.

Brought in Coutinho and Giroud, took out Sterling and Lukaku. I've already transferred Coutinho and Giroud out for GW14... so safe to say that was pretty rough.

Smooth: McAuley, Aguero, and nearly captained Coutinho but switched to Firmino - poor but could have been worse.

The two big hitters I've transferred out in recent weeks (Sanchez and Aguero) scored 2 each. The two people I brought in (hazard and Kane) did not. Captained coutinho. Rank is collapsing.

Rough - Fletcher (who was on the bench) got more points than my whole defense. 0 points seems to be the norm for my defenders this season.

Smooth - Picked the right GK for the first team in 4 GWs. (Foster outscored Pickford with 1 point). Sanchez and Aguero saving my GW.

Rough: Took Aguero out as part of -12, brought coutinho in and captained him.
Smooth: Ibra and Siggy came in and did well, only dropped 9k to 12k and my team is how I want it, so feel the -12 was worth it going forward.

50 points this week which isn't to rough or smooth, biggest problem this week is yellow flags Coutino, Firmino, Sterling, Holeblas, Giroud.
Already done Coutino to Walcott, and Sterling to Pedro or -4. Thinking of Giroud to Kane for -8?

        wow...where to start....
smooth... started off the gw with 9 points from Aguero (later turned 12)

but it was all downhill from there.
entire mid blanked. entire defence blanked. coutinho was captain. was sitting on 24 points end of saturday so i prayed that sunday would be better.... it wasn't

no clean sheet for arsenal and my giroud gamble hit the fan (got an assist but was flagged)
        holebas 0 and also flagged
at least austin produced but it only left me with 39... 7 below average and a 100k drop in rank. sitting at 242k so at least i'm not 100% panicking

A rough 42 points in the end, dropping off the top of my mini league and also down 50k to 199k overall after two red arrows.

Holebas, Fuchs, Bony, Deeney, KDB, Firmino and Koscielny contributing a measly 8 points between them.

Smooths-Aguero's brace, Clyne's clean sheet and Captain Mane delivering in some capacity.

Time for a pre Christmas spend on the back of all the hit talk of previous weeks and the clear out starts now. Any thoughts on these moves would be appreciated!

Gwk14 Aguero, KDB, Fuchs, Bony> Kane, Siggy, Cedric, Austin -8
Gwk15 Deeney, Chadli, Mane> Costa, Hazard, Pedro -8

I'm excited at the prospect of a fresh new team.

        Rough;
After the snippet about Aguero I sold for Ibra. My planned transfer was to sell Lukaku. Cost me 11 points trying to be clever! Would've been better off holding Aguero and having Fletcher to sub if needs be as I didn't expect anything out of him and was proved right. Lukaku is now history!

        Smooth:

Brought Ibra in and captained as planned for a nice score. Returns from Theo and Austin too. Decent 51 point week but have this feeling I cost myself 11 more trying to be one step ahead of mini-league rivals.

Logging onto FPL late on Saturday morning and seeing an Aguero flagged and shipping a -8 to move him on for Kane (wanted to do Kane for free the following week)

So come the 3pm kickoff I was net -20 down for Kun's brace and the hit but that's alright I right as I have Coutinho (C) to come!

Holebas sub 4 mins before a CS locked

        Fuchs - enough said

The flip side was that the Kun > Kane transfer allowed me to do Allen > Siggy and Sanchez and Austin pulling their weight on Sunday

The other early week transfer was Lukaku > Giroud which I'm still happy about to be honest as Everton look a way off.

Rough: Changed capt armband from McAuley to Coutinho based on the article that has been so right to date!

No smooth unless you count McAuley. Switched armband from Kun to Countinho based on people on here telling us all that Kun was crocked. Alonso'd.

Rough - Moving out Sigurdsson for Hazard 2 weeks ago is still biting me on the a**e.

Smooth - Moved up 700,000 places in one week, and only Firmino is yellow flagged, rest all fit.

        Rough:
        Saturday: 18pts
Aguero (12), Wilson (6) (and Gundog) out
        Coutinho injury.

        Smooth:
        Sunday: +51pts for 69 total.
Made up 32pts to ML leader, now only 18 back. Sanchez differential - BOOM, Oh Yeaaahhh!
        Ibra (c) (18), Austin (9), Sigurdsson (10) in.

        Rough:
My dream power midfield collapsed in ignominy, with KDB and Coutinho (C) earning me single digits. Changed captaincy from Aguero to Coutinho at the last minute due to teh injury flag (argh!).

        Smooth:
Brought Siggy in as part of a -8 hit that saw an overall +1 profit. McCauley!

Average-ish score, 6th red arrow in 7 game weeks.

A bit late on this, but it's without doubt my best ever rough with the smooth so hopefully you guys catch it...

Last week a I took a -8 hit, had a dire gameweek (at the end of Saturday I had 3 bookings, zero goals, assists and cleansheets from 7 players and my Captain), finishing with a GW rank of 3.2m falling close to a 1m OR. In my misery I went onto the mobile app to play around with my team. The app crashed, when I reopened it Mbokani had been transferred into my team in error (he wasn't in my team, and I never confirmed any transfers.. I was planning to get rid of Joe Allen). This used up my only FT, misery compiled.

I contacted FPL support, they acknowledged the issue and said they were investigating, but couldn't reverse the transfer. I gave up on FPL for the rest of the week, set my team this Saturday morning, decided to start Mbokani because... why not. I decided to captain Coutinho over Sanchez or Aguero (oops). Mbokani went on to get an assist, and as a differential contributed to IHOP's to victory in the Chili Bowl this week. My team recovered from last week's dismal showing and scored 61 points despite (C) Coutinho, getting a 625k GW rank, pushing me up around 300k places.

Sometimes it's best not to take hits to get out of trouble, even when everything seems to be going against you. If only I had captained Sanchez...

Scout Pick Community Champion Lottery – Gameweek 14

Once again we are on the look out for a champion to represent the community to take on the Scout Picks and win the chance of a prize.

If you want to take part please email your FFS name and FPL ID number to community@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk .

The champion will then be selected at random shortly after the deadline of 11am tomorrow (Tuesday) and then be asked to submit their XI by Friday 2pm by emailing me at jonty@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk

We only need 11 picks and please be mindful of the 84m budget. There’s no captain in the picks either and please stick to a designated FPL formation, including no more than three players from one team. No captain or chips will be applied.

At the end of the season the champion who beats the picks by the highest margin will win a £100 Amazon voucher.

The champion will be revealed in a midweek Scout Squad article on Tuesday, which will outline our initial thinking around the picks. Our and the champions picks will be revealed as usual the day before the first match of the Gameweek.

Should the community “Champion” fail to provide an initial or final Scout Pick selection, then an “Assistant Manager” chosen by us, will gain control of the selection to represent the community for the Gameweek in question.

must be hard for united fans to look at that table

jose now living on reputation alone, I do think the board were always in it for the long hall with him and he would have told them that the team needed to be rebuilt but I really think any any other manager in that position would have until xmas to turn things around..11 off the top, 8 off fourth. can't be in transition forever. its a results game( theres only one manger in the world working today who that doesn't apply to)

The Special 'Once' has lost the plot.

The media are so scared to criticise him though, any other manager spending that kind of money putting in these performances would be getting caned right now

the narrative around him seems to suggest that his decline started with the whole physio debacle at chelsea but in reality it was at madrid. People seem look his tenure there with rose tinted spectacles (until the fall out with the players) but his el classico record was really poor and he never made it past the CL semi final stage. many other managers deemed failures at the club achieved what he achieved

Depends a little on rotation and whether you have to play them every week, but probably C or D.

Lovren's only good defensive home games until GW22 are West Ham and Stoke.

        McCauley's fixtures are pretty dire.

Big dilemma in my mind to start this week:

      0.5 ITB

      Front 8 are:
      Haz - Cou - Firm - Capoue - Allen
      Kun - Austin - Giroud

Cou injured, I want a good replacement (Manè? Siggy?) but I also want Kane...and I think not having Alexis could become a big problem...

What would you do instead of me?
      A) Kun, Giroud and Cou out - Costa, Kane, Manè in (-8)
      B) Giroud and Cou out - Defoe and Manè in (-4)
      C) Stekelenburg, Giroud and Cou out - Grant, Siggy and Kane in (-8)
      D) Giroud and Cou out - Anichebe and Sanchez in (-4)

      Your ideas?

      1. Ha.
        • 10 Years

        A) Getting rid of Kun - No
        B) Don't see a huge upside
        C) Getting Grant now is silly
        D) Potentially, but Anichebe

      2. ARKHAM
        • 9 Years
        9 years, 10 days ago

        A)

Kane pays off his -4 playing a full 60 with the armband.

Mané WILL have more to do at Bournemouth, and Firmino will accommodate him.

Aguero's fixtures don't inspire confidence. City are shoddy right now, especially at the back. Chelsea are tight by comparison and Costa will likely pay off the extra -4 hit.

After that, you're singing through December.

      Pickford (Jaku)
      Walker Cedric Evans (Holebas) (Amat)
      Sanchez Hazard Firmino Coutinho Siggy
      Kun Austin (Diomande)

      1FT £0.6ITB

      A) Coutinho > Pedro (Holebas > Alonso in GW15)
      B) Coutinho > Walcott (only enough to do Holebas > £6m next week and I already have Sanchez)
      C) Coutinho > Alli/Eriksen (Holebas > £5.7)
      D) Coutinho > Mane (keep Holebas)
      E) Coutinho + Austin > Kane + £5.1m (Fer/Capoue/Matic)

      A) seems the sensible option, but just not sure I trust Pedro.

Tough choice of form or fixtures this week for a replacement for Coutinho. Eriksen or Sigurdsson? I have both Kane and Fer already

Neither. Maybe upgrade Fer to Siggy and get someone else (no idea what your budget would be?)

Fer is my 5th midfielder with decent fixtures through Christmas and if Bradley has any sense, he will play him every week. Great goal threat

You should have asked before doing this; not a great move imho. Bolasie better than Can. Mane better than Siggy (marginally). Kane edges Benteke but even besides Tekkers excellent underlying stats which look like finally translating into points, in the context of the triple, your first group were more formidable

I did this in order to beat the price rises of both Kane & Siggy, keeping in mind their upcoming fixtures & upturn in form. Felt Can is nailed on for Liverpool and will at least provide me with some sort of Liverpool cover. He gets forward a lot.

        I feel bad for losing Tekkers having stuck with him & finally gaining some points but I think Kane will justify the switch. Can't take my eyes off his GW 16 & 17 fixtures ;_;

yea fair enough. Who's to say. I personally wouldn't have, but again it's your team, so your own instincts should be followed.

      Pickford
      Evans - Pieters - Fuchs
      Sanchez - Mane - Walcott - Siggy
      Ibra - Costa - Austin

      (Foster; Holebas, Amat, Capoue)
      1.1m itb.

Early thoughts for next week? Like the look of Fuchs to Rose myself.

Don't know if this has been discussed on here, but Zaha pledged allegiance to the Ivory Coast recently, so he will likely leave for the AFCON. That's a big factor in our current transfers.

Oh well. I'll put the money to better use Zaha and Bolasie > 4.3 and 7.0ish

I'll be getting them back though.

      Walcott or Pedro for Coutinho?

      Grant - Pickford

      Firmino - Coutinho - Sanchez - Allen - Capoue
      Aguero - Wilson - Costa

Yeah , I've been very frustrated with my rank so far, but I think from my recent rank jump with just an extra 32 points shows theres not much in it. I now feel more confident of progressing. Just still hurting over switching my captain from Aguero to Coutinho last minute.

What would you do with this lot?

      Lukaku -> Defoe?
      Gundogan -> Sigurdsson?

      Pickford Grant
      Walker Coleman McAuley Holebas Amat
      Sanchez Hazard Firmino Gundogan Allen
      Aguero Lukaku Austin

      FT: 2, ITB: 0

Cech, Coutinho, Lukaku --> Heaton, Walcott, Costa (-4) ?

            Happens with Lukaku every year..

I wouldn't begrudge anyone getting rid, but I'm waiting 2 weeks with MUN + wat.

I don't fancy Kane to my own detriment, it's too soon for Ibra imo, and Costa has a tough fixture with a YC ban looming still.

Yea that yc is worry, can see it happening that he gets banned the week I get him in. Maybe I'll go for Kane until he gets that 5th yc. Home games against Swansea Hull and Burnley looks good 😀
