With a home tie against a Swansea City side that has shipped 11 goals in their last four league outings, Harry Kane (10.8) is surely set to be among the front-runners at the top of this week’s Captain poll.

Already subject to more than 28,000 transfers in since Saturday morning, it is clear many Fantasy Premier League managers are already looking to secure the 7.7% owned striker in their squads ahead of this fixture.

His team-mate Christian Eriksen (8.1) could provide an interesting differential for those shunning the Spurs striker. His goal against Chelsea had been long overdue, with the 4.7% owned Dane having more goal attempts than any other midfielder without scoring in the previous four matches.

Even though Chelsea prevailed 2-1 in that encounter, Eriksen’s strike demonstrated that the Blues 3-4-3 formation, which had kept six clean sheets in a row prior to Gameweek 13, can be breached.

This puts 43.9% owned Sergio Aguero (13.1) firmly in the running for a shot at the summit of this week’s poll, when Manchester City welcome Antonio Conte’s troops to the Etihad this weekend.

With a brace and maximum FPL bonus against Burnley on Saturday, the Argentine’s stock has increased markedly since his disappointing blank away to Crystal Palace in Gameweek 12.

His 10.9% owned team-mate Kevin De Bruyne (10.8) was only a substitute at Turf Moor but is expected to start for this top of the table match to present a solid alternative.

In contrast, City’s defence has been poor all season, having kept just two clean sheets. This retains the 43.7% owned Diego Costa (10.6) as a strong contender, having scored or assisted in all bar one of his six away league games this term.

However, it would be a surprise to see 32.8% owned Eden Hazard (10.2) feature highly, having recorded just the one goal and a single assist on this travels, and with blanks in his last two Gameweeks.

Like Aguero, Alexis Sanchez (11.3) was another premium player to serve up a brace in Gameweek 13, during Arsenal’s 3-1 home victory over Bournemouth.

The Chilean travels to a West Ham side that also suffers frailties in defence, conceding five goals in their last four home encounters. Meanwhile, the 22.7% owned midfielder, who continues to be fielded as a central striker by Gunners boss Arsene Wenger, has scored five of his eight goals on the road.

Despite a six-game scoring drought earlier this season, Zlatan Ibrahimovic (11.1) has remained a popular captaincy choice, with 13.01% of FPL managers handing him the armband in Gameweek 13.

He rewarded them with a goal and maximum bonus at home to West Ham, which could yet see him figure highly in this week’s poll, ahead of a trip to Goodison Park. The Toffees have failed to keep a clean sheet since Gameweek 10 and will be low on confidence after Sunday’s 1-0 defeat away to Southampton.

Philippe Coutinho’s likely absence this weekend through injury, when Liverpool travel to Bournemouth, leaves Roberto Firmino (8.8) and Sadio Mane (9.2) as the key captaincy contenders among the Reds’ ranks.

Of the two, the Brazilian has the edge over his Senegalese team-mate on the road, in terms of both shooting accuracy and chance creation.

Firmino took a knock at the end of  Saturday’s 2-0 home victory over Sunderland but is expected to be fit in time for the weekend.

Sunderland’s hosting of a Leicester City side which has conceded a joint league high 16 goals on their travels, presents the poll with a duo of differential armband options.

Seven goals this campaign has taken 19% owned Jermaine Defoe (7.5)’s FPL points tally to 74, just one behind Aguero, making him a strong contender in this week’s vote.

Considering the porous nature of the Foxes’ defence, Defoe’s cut-price team-mate Victor Anichebe (4.6) also emerges as an intriguing option. The 3.2% owned Nigerian has scored three goals in as many games since breaking into the Black Cats first XI earlier this month.

Joining Leicester with 16 goals conceded away from home is Hull City, which offers the chance for Alvaro Negredo (6.2) to garner votes when the Tigers visit Middlesbrough. Against the Foxes at the weekend he served up a brace, his first league goals since Gameweek 1.

We will be back to check in on progress in the poll later this week when we deliver our “Captain Sensible” article offering an analysis of the results and the statistics behind the leading contenders.

    Totally stumped...

    Foster (Pickford)
Coleman / Lovren / Holebas (Amat / Kingsley)
Cout / Firm / Hazard / Walcott (Allen)
    Kun / Costa / Austin

Made a knee-jerk rookie error in Lukaku -> Costa (overlooking Kane) on Saturday night.
    Still have 1 FT.
    What to do this GW?

    A) Cout -> Sig
    B) Cout -> Eriksen
    C) Costa -> Kane
    D) Cout & Costa -> Sig and Kane for a 4pt hit

Want optimal exposure of Chelsea GW15-19 and Spurs GW14-17 excl 15.

    Thanks in advance

I don't think that Lukaku -> Costa transfer is too bad. But when you first call that as a knee-jerk rookie error and in the next sentence you're planning to get Costa out...

Ha ha yes. Amazing what this game can do to you... I guess I am severely worried that Harry runs riot against a current Swans defence that would struggle in the championship

Why so worried? Costa vs. Kane is not clear-cut at all. I had the same dilemma yesterday. Costa is consistent while Kane has a tendency to produce lengthy dry spells. You never know who would do better.

Costa is a season keeper, relax, you're OK with him.

Regarding your question, since you went with Costa, go for B) Eriksen. This should cover the juicy Spurs fixtures.

No room at the inn for Kane?

I got Ibra in for Lukaku last week leaving me with a front three of:
    Ibra / Aguero / Austin
If Kun had of been rotated or had blanked against Burnley, Kane would have come this week as captain against SWA. But now I have had second thoughts (and will most likely hold Aguero), even with the Pep rotation cloud still hanging overhead!
    What would you do?

that's probably the worst time for getting rid of Ibra.
You had two option a month ago imo

        - get rid of Ibra
        - stick until January

I went for the second one because I though Ibra would deliver and Ibra has another great plus: he's super nailed. And Nailness really is important coming into the december busy period

Ohh, had a feeling that would come up...but I really want to hold Ibra some nice fixtures coming up and Utd surely have to start banging in goals soon, the amount of chances that they're creating! So it's either Kun - Kane or hold mate?

Over last 4 matches Eriksen has 1 more shot than Theo inside the box 🙂

Doesn't get in the box often enough though. Walcott's stats are pretty poor for the last 4 matches with 3 home games including Boro and Bournemouth. That kind of explains why it's just 1 goal in 4.

Upcoming fixtures good though so a good transfer in. Really relying on fixtures when it comes to Spurs mids. Think there's a good argument to go for it and swap Walcott in as and when

Form changes though and looking at the stats can sometimes help work out when that's likely to happen.

Eriksen not performing out of this world but isn't doing any worse than Walcott from a stats perspective that I can see. He also has 3 very good fixtures in the next 4 to increase his returns.

Doesn't mean it's guaranteed. 2/3 of the next 4 for Walcott are decent enough too.

Just think there's an argument to be made for both.

I have bad luck with Theo. Never seem to his purple patches. He got injured week after I bought him this year.

              Has his wife given birth?

PS: Has Bellerin's absence got anything to do with Wally's stats falling of cliff?

Me too, had a bit more fortune with him this season though. Being nailed is the biggest factor right now

Not sure on wife, I think so he celebrated by waving a baby around 😆

Quite possibly, Bellerin will return soon (hopefully) - I also back Arsenal to score more goals than Spurs, and after Alexis, Theo should have largest cut of them

Looking at some of the top ranked teams over the last few weeks there seems to be a lot of players that are either first time players or have a very average history. What are the chances that most of these will finish outside the top 100k?

As with one of my ML rivals who always seems to get a storming start to the season, I always end up catching him but I never get a good start myself for some reason (something I want to address). Is a good start partly luck or is there a knack to it?

I would say a good start is almost all luck because you have no real form to go by, apart from pre-season which is often quite misleading.

There is of course some skill in playing the opening 5 or so fixtures, and a degree of decisiveness if you really have picked a duff squad (and are not afraid to address it with some hits or even a WC)

Partly lucky, but also down to some skill. For example, go ultra cheap in defence and bring in as many big hitters as possible.

    0FT 0.6 itb

    Pickford Brouc
    Alonso, McAuley, Stones, Holebas, Lenihan*
    Sanchez, Hazard, Firmino, Allen, Stanislas
    Aguero, Wilson, Deeney

-8 for Deeney > Austin and Stones > Cedric? would then give me 0.9 itb!

Want to do Allen > Matic sis on the cards as both are same price (sell Allen for 5.1 before he drops) so straight swap.

    Sanchez - Hazard - Firmino - Sigurdsson

Should is start Pieters (BUR)? If yes, who for?

After next GW.. which of these combos look better moving forward.
    1. Walcott, Sanchez. ( Great fixtures and they are sure to well)
    2. Firmino, Hazard. (Safer options but then no Arsenal coverage.)

Will also need to choose between Costa/Kane..

    Pickford.
    Walker, Lovren, Cedric.
    Pedro, Coutinho**, Sanchez, Siggy.
    Lukaku, Aguero, Austin.
    Heaton, Holebas, Amat, G Whelan.

    Cedric- Stones done..
