Two of the lowest scoring teams clash at the Riverside Stadium to create a predictable outcome, as a single set-piece delivery and far post header decide matters. Here’s the Stock Check from Gameweek 14’s final encounter.

On the Rise

Gaston Ramirez
Always the most likely member of Middlesbrough’s midfield to emerge as a potential Fantasy asset, the Uruguayan was their star performer on the night and proved a worthy matchwinner.

Ramirez has now provided two goals and an assist in his last four starts, although ‘Boro’s continued lack of cutting edge remains a major obstacle.

Aitor Karanka’s men have scored just 13 goals in their 14 Premier League matches and will likely continue to rely on defensive stability to earn them points.

While that’s the case, Ramirez seems destined to provide a short-term differential and little more. To compound matters, he appeared to suffer a knock to his foot which saw him withdrawn in the dying stages.

The Middlesbrough Defence
Far more likely to provide with an asset for the remainder of the season, Karanka’s back five earned a fourth clean sheet of the season this evening, albeit against a largely unambitious and impotent Hull City attack.

With George Friend sidelined, skipper Ben Gibson has proved the most popular target in the ‘Boro backline and he justified that tonight by claiming two bonus points taking him to 53 overall. Surprisingly, that’s just 8 points shy of Kyle Walker, the top-ranked Fantasy Premier League defender.

With Southampton and Liverpool up next, we can perhaps wait to invest in Karanka’s rearguard. However, from Gameweek 17, the fixtures fall nicely.

Should Friend, now priced at just 4.4, be fit and available at that point, he could prove to be a key acquisition.

In Decline

Robert Snodgrass
A third consecutive Gameweek without returns has seen the Scot fade as a fourth midfield option.

So integral to Hull City’s attacking potential via his dead-ball delivery, Snodgrass has been unable to shine as others around him struggle.

With just a single goal in their last three and with Hull’s fixture list stiffening over the festive spell, Snodgrass is being swallowed up by alternative midfield options in and around his price point.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

You'd think Ake would be dropped but I'm not so sure.

He's been their most solid defender and has scored twice.

I think Adam Smith will be found a place in the team too though; either by staying at left back or even at right midfield in place of King.

Probably one of those 'don't buy, don't sell, wait' situations.

One of the cheaper Liverpool mids needed, but I cant decide between Can and Lallana.

Can is cheaper, but I cant spend his cash effectively in near future.

Lallana supposed to be more attacking... But is he? Will he start next game? And will Can play deeper with Lallana on the pitch?

There is certainly a question mark over where Lallana slots back into the team. If he takes the Coutinho role, he could be great in FPL terms.

I would take a punt on Origi, or just go for Defoe.

Origi's starting place in the team is unlikely to be secure, I would say, especially with Lallana coming back. Austin or Defoe?

But is Mane injured? Or at least a risk?

But you would definitely take the hit yes?

Second points hit of the season, siggy Walcott Aguero Holebas out for Costa Sanchez Can and Cedric.

Feels good and bad at the same time.

Like I've cheated on Siggy before our relationship has even started...

Siggy & Holebas have some decent fixtures coming up.

"Can" see why you did it though.

Holebas gave me many points but has gone wayyyy to far in the other direction.

Siggy can be excellent but Sanchez has made a mockery of me those 3 weeks I decided I didn't need him and that Walcott could cover.

        More like Walcannot

Gosh life really is what happens between your plans. I thought I would be super satisfied that all my players are now being transfered in, resulting in nice progress in TV. But I have to confess, I am not. I just feel like now I'm in a big boat with a ton of other folks. I know small violin, but just wondering which differentials people are considering to break with the rapidly consolidating template?

Differentials are like Cover. A Myth.

Pick the most high scoring popular players and you'll do well.

They are popular for a reason. Timing is more important than diffs/cover.

If you are ahead and people have the same players trying to catch up they won't catch you.

Just keep picking players who you think will do well in blocks of 3/4 gameweeks if possible.

Your team will naturally evolve over time/form/fixtures doing this.

Costa for next week and ideally both after that for a few weeks st least.... really every team is gonna have a Costa Kane or Costa ibra double up IMO

Had this myself. Fancied Ibra cos of pens and baps but went with Costa and it's such a good feeling to have him now after putting it off for 6-7 weeks because of his yellows.

Got Costa too,.. really lost a lot of ground waiting for his 5th yellow... crazy stuff looking back on it! Could have just benched him for a 1 match ban

Posting this again, new crowd. Can't decide on this

Debating on this for a cathartic -8

Already done Kun > Costa so Redmond & Holebas > Hazard & Ake pour un moins huit

Would leave double Bou and double WBA defence lol

    Pickford Boruc
    Walker Brunt Ake Evans Amat
    Sanchez Hazard Firmino Siggy Fletcher
    Costa Kane Austin

    Oui or non?

I take it you can't afford just Redmond to Hazard without the Holebas to Ake move?

i wish! annoyingly i was 0.1 short and then hazard rose anyway

        bloody redmond

tbh if i didnt do this, i'd just hold off and not take a hit

You had me at cathartic. Your use of French is just icing. So the way I evaluate is forwards first, mids second and so forth. Aside for some personal preference to Southampton and Liverpool defenders, I think you are golden. GF could probably upgrade but anything beyond a -8 is really playing with fire so just hold and bank a couple transfers for flexibility purposes.

Actually as mentioned above im cooling towards the hits. Just seem a little light just with Costa

Hi guys! What do you think of my team?

    A) Holebas -> Ake to free up some cash to change Allen to philips next GW?
    B) Relax dude, you are GTG

    0 ITB and 0 FT.
    Heaton - Pickford
    Alonso - Pieters - Mcauley - Holebas - Amat
    Hazard - Sanchez - Firmino - Siggy - Allen
    Costa - Kane - Austin

I am considering playing Anichebe and benching Austin...

    Logic:

    Pros:
    Boro know how to defend.

And as for Swansea webbed feet are no good for defending on dry land.

    Is this a wise choice?

    Cons:
Austin is on pens but Anichebe is not.
Southampton are at home, Sunderland are away
