Two of the lowest scoring teams clash at the Riverside Stadium to create a predictable outcome, as a single set-piece delivery and far post header decide matters. Here’s the Stock Check from Gameweek 14’s final encounter.

On the Rise

Gaston Ramirez
Always the most likely member of Middlesbrough’s midfield to emerge as a potential Fantasy asset, the Uruguayan was their star performer on the night and proved a worthy matchwinner.

Ramirez has now provided two goals and an assist in his last four starts, although ‘Boro’s continued lack of cutting edge remains a major obstacle.

Aitor Karanka’s men have scored just 13 goals in their 14 Premier League matches and will likely continue to rely on defensive stability to earn them points.

While that’s the case, Ramirez seems destined to provide a short-term differential and little more. To compound matters, he appeared to suffer a knock to his foot which saw him withdrawn in the dying stages.

The Middlesbrough Defence
Far more likely to provide with an asset for the remainder of the season, Karanka’s back five earned a fourth clean sheet of the season this evening, albeit against a largely unambitious and impotent Hull City attack.

With George Friend sidelined, skipper Ben Gibson has proved the most popular target in the ‘Boro backline and he justified that tonight by claiming two bonus points taking him to 53 overall. Surprisingly, that’s just 8 points shy of Kyle Walker, the top-ranked Fantasy Premier League defender.

With Southampton and Liverpool up next, we can perhaps wait to invest in Karanka’s rearguard. However, from Gameweek 17, the fixtures fall nicely.

Should Friend, now priced at just 4.4, be fit and available at that point, he could prove to be a key acquisition.

In Decline

Robert Snodgrass
A third consecutive Gameweek without returns has seen the Scot fade as a fourth midfield option.

So integral to Hull City’s attacking potential via his dead-ball delivery, Snodgrass has been unable to shine as others around him struggle.

With just a single goal in their last three and with Hull’s fixture list stiffening over the festive spell, Snodgrass is being swallowed up by alternative midfield options in and around his price point.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Play 3 out of
    Holebas
    Smith
    Naughton
    Lowton
    Pieters

I also have 1FT and 0.1 ITB so could change one of them to a 4.5-4.7 bracket defender.

So if I'm reading that right, the value for the top 10K is only 102.4? That would lead me to believe it's even lower for overall. Interesting. I guess TV means crap this season...at least for me!!

It never means crap, it might not be as relevant now because you're locked in to a template but you'll be upset if it's low when it comes to that second wildcard.

Building TV is a long game plus.

Snodgrass to Sanchez then? 😛 It's amazing the number of teams with Hazard and no Sanchez - good for us Sanchez owners!

But seriously, I don't see anything worth a hit here. Whenever you have a FT to burn, you could downgrade one of Pieters/Friend to Amat (even if he averages 0 points these past few games!) to make a bit more money and afford Alexis easier down the line.

Very disappointed with Snodgrass.. Another blank at home vs crystal palace's porous defence and I am shipping him out for sure as a 4th midfield. Who is a good alternative for below 7.0m? Would Lallana or Can be a better choice? Alternatively, should I take a -8 next GW and sub in Alli + Origi + a 3.9 defender to replace Defoe Snodgrass and Williams?

    Help needed desperately...

    1. Pierce34
      • 10 Years
      9 years, 2 months ago

The thing with Snodgrass is that it's impossible to predict his hauls - especially with him on all set-pieces. He may blank against 'easy' opposition that play tight defence (like Boro) but get an assist from a corner and a goal from the penalty spot vs. better opposition that plays more open, like Liverpool e.g.

I would wait another week to see where Lallana plays now that Coutinho is out, and whether Can is pushed further back.

      Another sub-7.0m option is Phillips.

He has had what 3 clean sheets in 4? 5?
I COMPLETELY agree and not happy to own him any longer, PLUS I benched the fella when he scored his header that week.

I just can't take him out this week.

        One last week mate.

I will have a back 3 of Walker Alonso Koscielny probably next week.

        Cheers

With no clear captaincy options the last two weeks, I felt safe taking on a differential option. That worked a charm this year, bit not so much around this time last year. I can't help feeling it was luck levelling out a bit. 🙂

I bet. My best decision was to sell Lukaku to free up fundsb for Hazard, rather than doing the popular move. The Swans game was a hide behind the couch moment though.

Few questions if he can help please.
    1. Any reason not to go Alli over Eriksson next week. Alli ain't rising in price anything like Eriksson so that's good for a start.
    2. Still love for Cedric / Austin despite the weekend result. Thoughts?
    3. Who would you lose for Alli/ Eriksson. Walcott is in and out of team like a yo yo just wasting transfers. Should I lose him once and for all.
    Walcott Firmino Sanchez Hazard KDB
Front 3 is Austin Defoe Diomande.

    1. Stupendous

      1. Um yea Eriksen is a far better option than Eriksen, and in far better form.
      2. Keep Austin but don't bring in if don't have
      3. Until Arsenal are FULLY fit, and Sanchez is either out hurt, dropped, banned, or permanently moved for Giroud, KEEP Theo.

      Welcome.

Cheers - on point 3 something has got to give I don't want to go into GW 16 without any Spurs in the front 8. Suggestions? KDB and Diomande > to Kane + midfield fodder is another option?

        1. Stupendous
          • 13 Years
          9 years, 2 months ago

Sounds fine. we are not on form, KDB is not immune to benching, and if you are that desperate then go for it.

If i had KDB i wouldnt sell mind you, regardless of Peps tinkering. I'd take KDB over ANY Spurs mid anyday of the week, and have to find another way to get Kane in probably.

Cool I replied above before I saw your post. Would you go Kane for KDB as I say above or you think there is a better way. Staying 352 and losing Austin and KDB for Kane and still about a 7.5 mid is an option too? What you think?

      1. Eriksen is pretty much guaranteed 90 whereas Alli isn't and has set pieces. I wouldn't touch either of them at this point until GW16
      2. One result hardly changes matters, they were playing a desperate Palace side after a midweek game vs Arsenal
      3. Sell Walcott in your case if you have Alexis

Thanks for all the replies. Ruberx I have some ITB so I can do Walcott and Austin to Kane and mid fodder.

    GTG?

    Pickford
    Alonso, Pieters, Smith
    Haz, Sanchez, Firmino, Siggy, Eriksen
    Costa, Austin

    Heaton, Iheanacho, Fuchs, Amat

Play Nacho over Austin? Play Amat or Fuchs over Pieters? Thanks guys

      Very nice.
Not sold on your defence overall mind you.
Solid squad but no i'd still play Austin over Nacho.

Not sure Pep won't even play KDB up front, or bring Nolito in from the cold week, or play Sterling up front, or play Bravo up front, or play Sane up front, or play Dinho up front.

      He could play 2 7 1
He could play 1 2 7 with Sterling, Sane, Nolito, KDB, Silva, Gundogan and Yaya up front
