Gameweek 17 delivers one last match for Fantasy managers as Everton entertain Liverpool in the first Merseyside derby of the season.

Adam Lallana arrives at Goodison as the most sought-after target in Fantasy Premier League last week – over 290,000 drafted him in on the back of a 19-point haul at Middlesbrough.

Divock Origi was the number one forward for transfers in ahead of Gameweek 17 – the Liverpool frontman has recovered from a knock and is looking to score for the fifth successive Gameweek.

In terms of FPL captains, Romelu Lukaku and Sadio Mane are the two most popular picks for tonight’s match.

The big Belgian has struggled for form, though, failing to earn points in five of his previous six league outings.

Although he’s flourished at Anfield, Mane has disappointed on the road, serving up six blanks in eight road trips.

Meanwhile, Roberto Firmino – the third most transferred out ahead of Gameweek 17 – will be looking to stop the fire sale and end a run of five straight blanks against a defence with just a single clean sheet in 12 attempts.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

I took a hit for the same move too. I prob wouldn't have done it on just form or fixtures alone, but both together made sense (incl Kane's f+f too)

Don't like negredo's next two and not convinced llorente will get both games. Even considered looking at Burnley for the next two but gray has zero form..

Liverpool very chequered fixtures for a number of weeks coming up

Walcott at the moment looking like the better option but always possible Wenger will do something crazy

Lallana often hauled off early, so is Walcott..

      Walcott scored more

Fletcher, Kane, Defoe to Lallana, Ibra, Anichebe for a 4 pt hit?

Thinking of switching from 3-4-3 to 3-5-2 - Ibra is in better form and has better fixtures than Kane. Lallana is quite an explosive player, although less consistent than Defoe. Anichebe is more likely to get the odd assist/goal than Fletcher is.

Sell Firmino for me. Mane will score against Stoke. Wish Firmino would run into the box and get around the penalty spot and get on the end of things. Instead Firmino plays on the left, picks up the ball near the half way line and hangs around the edge of the box.

Good post, missed out on quite a lot myself, Rose, Origi the more recent ones while opting for Toby and Iheanacho, not going to pretend I missed out on Costa, while Aguero was fit he was always no 1, when he got injured Costa came in.

Costa to Ibra was the easiest no think transfer to mate which is reflected in his transfers out being almost double that of Kane, you all know Kane will produce against Southampton and burn others for over thinking that move.

This isn't overthinking. It's thinking. Generally that's to be considered a good thing.

The fact that thinking something through can sometimes lead to a sub-optimal result is obvious when you are looking at a game where luck and happenstance plays a part.

I got Zlatan in 7 weeks ago when most were getting rid. Since then: 2, 12, 9, 7, 2, 11, 12. Classic over-thinking according to your definition.

I'd rather think than mindlessly chase last week's points. Just the way I like to approach the game I guess.

      1. Pochecinno
        • 11 Years
        9 years, 7 months ago

It seems that you haven't understood the point of the post. Keeping Zlatan is not overthinking based on the premise of the post as his availability was never in doubt.

If you look at the all the examples given, there was doubt created with regards the availability of the players mentioned. Doubts which deterred many on here, at least, from buying despite them all being good picks who subsequently have been delivering points.

I don't know why you needed to use this an opportunity to defend your Zlatan position as the post in no way attacks it.

        1. Ruth_NZ
          • 11 Years
          9 years, 7 months ago

I'm not defending my Zlatan selection, why would I need to? All I did was put him in my team. What I meant is that it wasn't the 'obvious' thing at the time.

But I see the point about availability. I had indeed missed that.

I guess it's partly about hits and FTs, right? The tried-and-tested method is to take few hits and to avoid transfers that will or may require another FT shortly after. But this season has certainly repaid a more aggressive, reactive approach so far. Personally I certainly played the first 10 weeks or so too passively.

        I'm having a nightmare season.
So curious about your thinking about bringing in Ibra when everyone else was shipping - particularly such a high value player.
You got him after Burnley? So he had just had big stats in that game but hadn't scored for 6 games. Fixtures weren't brilliant.
Was it logic or gut instinct?

        1. Ruth_NZ
          • 11 Years
          9 years, 7 months ago

I got him before Burnley and captained him. He could have had 3 or 4 in that game. To make matters worse it was Aguero I removed for him and he scored a brace. But believe it or not, the ledger has evened up and turned in my favour since then. I believe I am around 35 points ahead of where I would have been had I kept Kun.

It all started from me deciding to remove Aguero. How I got there is another story, there was rationality to it but not rationality that everyone agreed with. Some might have called it hysterical fantasy (and did). But once I had made that decision Zlatan was the obvious replacement, stats were awesome, his career scoring record is awesome and he was never going to be dropped. Burnley at Old Trafford was another enticement. I agreed with Mourinho that United had been very unlucky and banked on that turning. Which it has obviously begun to do.

Good post. Personally, I've made several errors of this type. Costa is the biggy, but also avoided Grant because I thought Butland was imminent. I'm going to try and find that balance between planning carefully for players who the fixtures and history points to, and going on my instincts with players who are playing well now.

The players you mentioned are not in the same boat though Cedric has been unfortunate due to injury . They are not first choice/nailed players who MAY get game time. I'm talking about players who ARE first choice who people have avoided because they MAY become unavailable.

        i did the same.
But not a lot you can do.
        1. no-one knew Spurs were going to go 3 at the back. affected Spurs' fullback returns.
        2. Toby gets a small injury

Not sure it made Toby the wrong transfer.

I keep reading everyone say phil jones is injury prone whenever someone asks if they should get him, but already kept 2 CS recently & good fixtures coming up!

      Its a risk reward.

Players in form without the doubt are no brainers, everyone gets them.

For the rest there is often a trade off where some have a higher points season but come with more risk, like all the examples you mention.

We have to be a bit careful with the learnings. Its like looking at the stock market affter a good spell and saying i should have borrowed and invested, look how much they have risen. Well yes in hindsight but you did not know that at the time so had to decide if you wanted to take the risk.

The short term winners take the risk and get the rewards, the short term losers take the risk and the risk eventuates. The rest try and make the most optimum decisions in the middle somewhere.

I think people here are seriously overreacting regarding Origi. If he looses his starting place it won't be because of his performance tonight. Every Pool attacker struggled. And before this game Origi was on a crazy form.

We don't know who Klopp prefers. Wisest thing to do is to keep imo.

There's no way Sturridge starts next week. Quite obvious he'll be eased in again.

Firmino and Mane didn't struggle. They had good games.

They didn't create much though. Many times Firmino mispassed the ball. Mané too. Origi didn't get much service.

Agree with this. Can't see Sturridge going from a cameo to a start right away.

He's being transfered in at 1.1% an hour so most people can see it for what it is.

Klopp is not a fan of Sturridge anyway and doubt Sturridge is fit to start a game, it's after the Stoke game that you need to worry about.

No. Does not get into enough goalscoring positions (compared to Origi and Mane) to be an option anymore.

2 Goals in the last 3 away games, is Mané now fixture proof? (Even though that goal was lucky, and he'll be going off to Afcon soon)

    2 FT, 0.3M ITB:

    Grant / Heaton
    Alonso / Williams / Rose / Smith / Amat
    Sanchez / Siggy / Hazard / Allen / Fletcher
    Kane / Costa / Defoe

Is it worth taking a 4 pt hit for:

    Fletcher, Kane, Defoe OUT
    Lallana, Ibra, Anichebe IN

    Foster / Pickford
    Azpilicueta / Jones / Ward / Pieters / Amat
