Gameweek 17 delivers one last match for Fantasy managers as Everton entertain Liverpool in the first Merseyside derby of the season.

Adam Lallana arrives at Goodison as the most sought-after target in Fantasy Premier League last week – over 290,000 drafted him in on the back of a 19-point haul at Middlesbrough.

Divock Origi was the number one forward for transfers in ahead of Gameweek 17 – the Liverpool frontman has recovered from a knock and is looking to score for the fifth successive Gameweek.

In terms of FPL captains, Romelu Lukaku and Sadio Mane are the two most popular picks for tonight’s match.

The big Belgian has struggled for form, though, failing to earn points in five of his previous six league outings.

Although he’s flourished at Anfield, Mane has disappointed on the road, serving up six blanks in eight road trips.

Meanwhile, Roberto Firmino – the third most transferred out ahead of Gameweek 17 – will be looking to stop the fire sale and end a run of five straight blanks against a defence with just a single clean sheet in 12 attempts.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Anyone buying Grant worried his loan ends Jan 3rd and Derby want 4m and Stoke won't pay that. Maybe something sorted out though

He's 33 years old. Derby have lost the plot if they think they can get 4m for him.

I rate Victor Mannone very highly but I genuinely think Pickford is going to keep him out of the Sunderland team at the moment. Moyes mentions his performance every other post-match interview and he's good for save points against bigger clubs as well as weaker ones.

Probably the logical CB pairing. A shame that Klopp fell out with Sakho, Matip-Sakho would have been quite good. We'd probably be much closer to Chelsea, if not ahead.

It's been saying "The cup will start in Gameweek 18" all season.
That means that the first round of the cup is in Gameweek 18, but qualifying for it depends on scores in the previous gameweek.
It's always been like that, but perhaps FPL ought to have displayed a more prominent reminder that GW17 was the qualifying gameweek.

Perhaps, but I think a competition starts when you can be knocked out.

The top 2,097,152 scorers in Gameweek 17 will enter the first round. If there are more than 2,097,152 qualifiers then there will be a random draw amongst the lowest scorers to see who qualifies.

Kane is rubbish. Costa depends on how much value you have tied up, many are benching him.

      1. Get up ya bum
        • 16 Years
        9 years, 2 months ago

Kane is the same as always. He's a limited player, most top teams wouldn't see him as having a good enough all round game to lead the line. One of the best goal scorers around though. Needs the midfield to do their job. Last season Alli, Lamela, Eriksen and Dembele were all linking so well and playing to kane's strengths. It's just not happening this season. Hence the constant changes in systems trying to fixing and the onus on Eriksen to do everything himself

        1. Sauzée
          • 9 Years

Aye rubbish was hyperbole 🙂 I think they are really missing Alli's drive this season. He was unplayable at times last season.

Kane isn't bad imo, looks alright, but not worth anywhere near 11m and not a great fixture next either. You could sell Costa if you just bought him and pray that he doesn't explode after returning (which he hasn't so far this season, but certainly capable).

Slightly off topic but I do wonder where this leaves England. Stones has been dropped. Cahill may be dropped. Smalling hasn't been good this season when he's played (although will likely get games when Bailley is at AFCON). Jones is injury prone. Jagielka is too old. Defence was already our weak point and this will just make it worse.

Cahill is past his best but certainly not dire. Kurt has the potential to be one of the best CBs in the world in my opinion but Chelsea have no need to change anything at the moment. Playing every game like they are intent on winning the league already. Plus, Conte knows Zouma will be gaining enough experience in training at the moment, similar to Batshuayi.

Been having wild thoughts, is 4-3-3 a viable option? Plenty of OOP options available at the back.
Not keen on getting Costa back in because I got on him late whereas my ML rivals have had him since the start, so I'm looking at exploiting my team value elsewhere

Using 2 moves (Siggy, Origi > Fletcher, Aguero) I could line up with:

    Heaton (Pickford)
    Alonso Brunt Cedric Jones/Smith (Amat)
    Sanchez Hazard Eriksen/Coutinho (deRoon Fletcher)
    Aguero Ibra Benteke

    1. Sauzée
      • 9 Years

I would sooner go 3-4-3 and just play three OOP defenders. I reckon there is still value to be had in midfield

Hmm. Not sold on the non-Costa argument. Looks like the most consistent attacker, and gets a rest this week. I got him late myself (10.8), and plan to bring him back in for Kane.

I've been playing 4 at the back for most of the season, to no avail having only just acquired a Chelsea defender, and I'm genuinely considering getting two of Azpi, Alonso, Luiz.

I'm also unlikely to get Costa given Aquero is back and I own Hazard and it makes a double up at the back very wise given how stand out Chelsea's defence is.

Brunt is definitely the best option after the new year and Cedric should make up for not starting the last two over the next few GWs.

Other than that its open for debate if you don't have Walker, which I do, and don't want to consider the potential of Arsenal and Man Utd's back lines scoring big with such good upcoming fixtures. Valencia and Kosielny could be brilliant options if both teams can keep enough clean sheets.

The major downside for me is playing only three mids when so many are in form this year. I'm more keen on 4-4-2 personally.

Already have Mane if that matters

Who are you selling and are you taking a hit?

Zlatan cos there's no point getting Costa for a GW he won't play and Sturridge impacts Origi time.

When I was starting out this game I used to pick a captain for a run of games and stick to them. The idea being I won't miss hauls by jumping around from blank to blank. I've long since discarded the idea as too negative/passive. Anything to be said for it?

    1. Pierce34
      • 10 Years
      9 years, 2 months ago

I think empirically, yes, there is something to be said for it - I was on Sanchez (luckily) for 46 points, then for an assist for 10, then switched to Kane for these past 2 weeks. Had I stuck with Sanchez for all 4 weeks I'd be far better off.

(Incidentally, Sanchez has always got at least one assist when I've captained him. Kane has blanked every single time I've captained him going back to last season)

Dead teams on (C)osta prove it is probably the best way to go and by that I mean just sticking to your most consistent player every week. If I'd kept it on Mane since GW1 I'd have 20-40 more points right now.

Genuinely think sticking it on Azpi/Alonso is a good plan currently. Clean sheets home/away, bonus magnets and assist potential not to mention Alonso's goal threat.

Most of the time though they'll 'only' get 6-8 points, whereas you want double digits from your captain ideally. Probably better off leaving the armband on Alexis despite the appeal of the Chelsea defence.

You're not wrong. The double digit threat of the big hitters is probably just as good if not better. Sanchez is going to crazy with these fixtures. The best option is probably to stick it on him over the next 6 and just commit to doing that right now without backing out!

Can't really remember, but I think people were talking about Costa in the old familiar terms - i.e. rarely scores more than 1 goal, YC magnet, doesn't get bonus points. I jumped on quite early (bought him at 9.6) but didn't have him from the beginning.

They haven't shown their face if you're right. Hazard was on great form towards the end of last season and the Euros so dead teams owning him doesn't surprise me. Grey's form was unreal in the championship so perhaps its the addition of Redmond which implies that they were switched on. Certainly someone who knew their FPL to double on in Spurs, own a Chelsea defender and captain Costa. Winston Reid is also a bit of a fantasy legend with all those bonus points over the years.

Depends entirely on your team. You're able to get Aguero back in easily which can't be said for many people so that is definitely the main advantage of leaving it so late. Only problem is City's fixtures not being great when Arsenal, Chelsea and Utd's look so good.

All good options including Vokes and Benteke.

I've also gone for Llorente. Scored 4 in his last two home games and has two homes against poor teams coming up. Carroll + Benteke against weak teams also but both away over the next two GWs.

Vokes and Grey are interesting. Burnley are like a different team at home so one of them will do well given they are also playing at home two weeks in a row.

What's the plan for the next week with no games?

    a) take a week off FFS
    b) keep the same schedule
    c) spend minimal time on here
    d) catch up on movies/shows

You are in the random draw.
If there are more than 2,097,152 qualifiers then there will be a random draw amongst the lowest scorers to see who qualifies.

There is about 24K who need to fit into 8K.

A little light up top, would consider upgrading Origi when you get the chance.
