Gameweek 17 delivers one last match for Fantasy managers as Everton entertain Liverpool in the first Merseyside derby of the season.

Adam Lallana arrives at Goodison as the most sought-after target in Fantasy Premier League last week – over 290,000 drafted him in on the back of a 19-point haul at Middlesbrough.

Divock Origi was the number one forward for transfers in ahead of Gameweek 17 – the Liverpool frontman has recovered from a knock and is looking to score for the fifth successive Gameweek.

In terms of FPL captains, Romelu Lukaku and Sadio Mane are the two most popular picks for tonight’s match.

The big Belgian has struggled for form, though, failing to earn points in five of his previous six league outings.

Although he’s flourished at Anfield, Mane has disappointed on the road, serving up six blanks in eight road trips.

Meanwhile, Roberto Firmino – the third most transferred out ahead of Gameweek 17 – will be looking to stop the fire sale and end a run of five straight blanks against a defence with just a single clean sheet in 12 attempts.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

A little surprised that Barkley didn't cop a red for that challenge on Hendo. Crazy. Anyone disagree?

Ref couldn't see Hendo's ankle from where he was. If I was the assistant I would have had a word in his ear. Clear red. It is a statement to the humility of Hendo that he defused the situation so well given Barkley is his international team mate. If the challenge had caused a serious injury we would be talking about it for weeks. Barkley is lucky the FA have a ridiculous rule of only reviewing an incident if the ref didn't see/act on it. He deserves a three match ban just as much as Rojo does for either of his two-footers. Why should Aguero get deserved punishment but the other two escape with a yellow just because the ref wrongly judged the severity of the tackle at the time? We make the ref's job almost impossible by not allowing them to review video during the game and then slate them for making the wrong decisions. The FA need to wake up and bring the sport up to date like Cricket, Rugby and Tennis did many years ago.

Have to get rid of Pedro? Costa is not playing and it will cost me a 4 hit....since I changed Oxlade>Siggy problem is I am not expecting much points from my defense this week....might be worth the hit?
This week tempted by Erik (price not cool) Willian (minutes?) Herrera (getting more involved in MU game)...2.6Mil in the bank
This is my first 4weeks of Fantasy so any advice will be welcome

    Alonso-Barragan-Holebas-Daniels
    Lallana-Walcott-Siggy-Zaha

Surely the games should just continue over Christmas? Footballers get paid too much to get time to spend with family.

It's not like they work 9-5 is it? Train for a couple of hours a day and play a match once or twice a week. They get loads of time with the family during the week after training

It'll take a few hits to get there but thoughts on this 4-4-2 team?

    Heaton (Pick)
    Alonso Azpi Jones Bertrand (McAuley)
Sanchez Walcott Coutinho Mkhi (de Roon)
    Costa Ibra (Barnes)

I know there's a lot invested in defence. That's the point of this draft team. It seems that in a good week, about half the players including the captain need to get points. So maybe it's worth sacrificing a 7th attacker like Benteke to strengthen 3 or 4 other players. Also, when you look at value in terms of points per game per million, it's clear that forwards are in general poorer value than mids and defenders. Compare forwards in the 6.5 - 8m range with the likes of Walker and Chelsea defenders. We have to cough up big money for the glamour of a goalscorer.

Four defenders doesn't feel great but is it really so wrong? Thoughts appreciated!

If he gets an assist then 3BPS is almost always locked on. If City score three goals then he's the most likely to be involved in more than one of them. If Pep played him in CAM, by far his most effective position, then we'd all have him. Problem lies within the fact Silva is a world class player and they can't share the role. Pep doesn't even play an out and out CAM, just lets Silva and KDB drift around the middle of the park and orchestrate everything.

KDB might not be worth his price right now but he could easily assist in his next 3/4 games and end up in the top three highest scorers so far. He's never really a bad player to own at any point of the season.

The goals are coming. In the last 4 weeks KdB has more GA's & SiB than Alexis.

I haven't looked too much at his stats - is it that he's not having shots or that he's not converting them?

From what I've seen, he doesn't seem to be quite as confident in front of goal this season. Needs a goal to get him going.

Going costa and ibra only up top is very viable, plenty doing it on a 3-5-2.

So the question is whether your 4 man defence isbetter than a playable 5th mid like phillips or zaha.

A 4 man defence makes it harder to rotate around tougher fixtures.

Also with that flat price structure with 3x ~5m defenders its inflexible and difficult to release funds.

You also mention hits yo get yourself into that state which seems profligate.

I cant help thinking you better off with phillips / zaha and flushing the money out of 2 of those defenders to fo it.

I do love the chelsea double up if you can still afford it but they do have a tough run coming, may not be the time to do it.

      1. Sharpe Shuffle
        • 10 Years

Bertrand and McAuley have such good fixtures that I'd be prepared to play them pretty much every week while Chelsea and to a lesser extent United are looking really solid against anyone.

I suspect there wouldn't be much difference in scoring potential of say Philips vs Bertrand over the next 8 games or so. I'll keep an eye on Philips as they are coming into some nice fixtures soon. Zaha would be a great option if he weren't going to AFCON soon.

Realistically, I'm not going to take loads of hits to get this team but just wanted to throw it out there as an experiment to challenge the 3 defender orthodoxy. Seeing how Walker, Azpi and Alonso have matched mids and forwards costing several million more so far just got me thinking.

        Thanks for your input!

Very good, I'd be concerned at punting on Mhkitaryan though. Is there anyway you could get someone better? Unless you're chasing of course. I'd throw in Bellerin as well- I've been playing 433 and doing better than previous seasons. Spurs and Chelsea boys are scoring 6+ most weeks...

Yeah, Mkhi has to prove himself still. He's not nailed yet and needs to establish fitness. An exciting prospect though if he does

Benteke could rip it up in early 2017, those fixtures look great, I think he may prove a must have for that period and 343 may still be the best play

They do. My original plan was Defoe to Benteke for GW20. This draft is a bit more experimental. Another option would be a front two of Benteke and one of Costa/Ibra with even more investment in midfield and defence. Haz for Walcott and Walker/Rose for Jones maybe

I thought long and hard about upgrading my defence but the lack of cs is still worrying. To be fair I had a Sanchez dilemma also, so finally bit the bullet and got him in for the first time this week. So the choice was upgrade my defence or get in Sanchez. At least I can enjoy ARS games now 😉

Yeah... that's my point... if all I'm expecting from Redmon is 2 points... then I'll take my chances with Nyom... maybe West Brom pulls a Bournemouth-Liverpool action.

Any early 2017 transfer plans on your mind?
Is Aguero a must have or is he a wait and see for now?

I'm actually pretty happy with my team looking ahead, so it's a wait and see on Aguero for me, and barring injuries my next transfers will be:
    GW19 Save
GW20 Carroll + Siggy to Benteke + Phillips
Palace and WBA have fantastic runs of fix just as WHU and SWA fix begin to stiffen.

From what I understand he has been highly regarded as a talent but has had confidence issues. Seems to be playing with plenty lately so I think he could be a great option and the price,oh the price 😉

For that kind of cash, Aguero needs to be nailed beyond question. He's already injury prone and now this season he's suspension prone too!

Hi...very tough gw with 37 points all out so expecting another big drop tonight. Was so close to getting negredo but ended up choosing carroll. Anyhow, relatively happy with my team so cant see any major improvements apart from defence. have 1FT and 0.8m itb

    Heaton --- Grant
Holebas (CPL) Naylor (WHU) Pieters (liv) --- Smith Mcauly
Hazard Siggy Eriksen Sanchez --- Fletcher
    Kane Ibra Carroll

    A: Pieters >> P.jones/cedric/Gabriel
    B: Mcauly >> Valencia
    C: Eriksen + Mcauly >> Walcott + Cahill (-4)..unfortunately 0.1m short of alonso

Pieters>P.Jones I got the kid on my watchlist since looks like ManU might be getting more rough on the style (quite a Jose think) trying to get points from though defense=CS and some Ibra sparks....see if he succeed on the idea,if he does P.Jones might be a good call

I have Alonso and I do have also second thoughts,he has some danger close to the box but he still a bit sloppy (he will get better,is the first time he play a winger role,he played pure LB-CB in Fiorentina and Madrid)

Azpilicueta in the other hand always gets bonus points for the clean sheets....this week assist-melon to the box was just luck and Costa did a miracle with that ball.

I'll keep Alonso since I have faith in the kid,is just more exiting and fun to have him on the team

    5. Sharpe Shuffle
      • 10 Years

Yep, a few people are getting both. Hazard just isn't producing so Costa plus 2 defenders from Chelsea makes a lot of sense

Yeah I'm thinking to give Hazard one more chance this weekend, if he blanks then drop for maybe Lallana and upgrade to Azpi at the back with Alonso

Any super cheap defenders around at the moment?

    Current Def is:

    Azpi, Clyne, Gibson, Brunt, Pieters

Pretty happy with it but I need funds for getting Aguero back.

Clyne definitively the one to go if you want to free up funds. Ake is 4.4 and playing as a defensive mid at the moment. All the Bournemouth defenders are good options given they like to get forward a lot. Otherwise, Amat is around 4.5 and has good fixtures if he isn't dropped after last weeks performance.

Did Can to De roon and Costa to Ibra last night.

    Bought Costa at 10.7
Do you think he will have 3 falls so I can buy him at the same price?

He's making him chase and defend. Means two things: he can't play on the shoulder quite so much and he's using his energy pressing and chasing so he can't as easily explode into action.

To be fair he's still scoring goals when he plays but these disciplinary issues are a new thing this season
