Low on baubles but big on Christmas hats, the array of headgear in this festive ScoutCast is impressive, at least until you get to Jonty’s flimsy paper effort.

The final episode of 2016 is upon us and it’s a big one as Andy, Granville and the aforementioned Jonty join me to charge headfirst into the final three Gameweeks of the year.

We start by bowing to Andy’s wise man act as he reaps the reward of faith in Ibrahimovic: a gift that we hope will go on giving, as we all belatedly jump on board.

Then we batten down the hatches ahead of Christmas rotation, analyse the 2016 Dream Team and attempt to provide the Fantasy Football’s “secrets of success”. Like we’d know.

This episode of the ScoutCast was first beamed live via our YouTube channel on Tuesday night. Be sure to subscribe to get notice of future live episodes.

If you’re a traditional type, you can acquire the mp3 audio version via this link or the first player below, or take in the full visual experience via the second player below – hats and all.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

One week punt for a striker under £11m?

        Got Kane or Nacho.

        1) Deeney
        2) Lukaku
        3) Slimani
        4) Other
        5) Save FT (only got 1 fit sub)

Any reason for that optimism? Hull should have scored 5 against them. Think they are good at dealing with crosses in the box or something? Just think Siggy will be bombarding them with corners and fks.

Hull could've scored a bunch against Spurs but didn't. Reid and Cresswell back. Played Spur Man U Arsenal Liverpool before the 2 CS and Randolph starting to look better

The West Ham defending just looks abysmal. Bigger teams may have forced them to get more compact but they'l surely be going for 3 points here. Thinking it's another Swansea-Palace in the offering.

Jesus your forwards. Origi may be dropped. A lot of people will have a heavy hitter forward if not 2 and your most expensive is 7.7

Origi will play for a while yet and I have good cover if he doesn't. Price isn't a measure of a points scoring ability, Defoe and Benteke look excellent value.

If Origi had scored last game he'd be 'essential' - a striker at under 7m playing for the most attacking team in the league can't be all bad

There's so many options this year no one is essential, even Sanchez isn't in everyone's teams. If I need an expensive striker I'll just swap Eriksen and Benteke for one. No one was talking about Ibra until this week, there's always someone new every week.

            Sure you can.

I had a mate that always bet on Chelsea's opponents to win every time we went to the Bridge. His reasoning: "I'll come out happy if Chelsea win and if they lose I'll drown my sorrows on the bookies' money".

There was kind of a method in his madness I think. 🙂

The fact that it is held every 2 years for some reason would make a AFCON summer tournament awkward as it would clash with the World Cup

It should be moved to the summer and held every 4 years Africa is a big place and i am sure they could find a place temperate enough to hold the tournament in the summer

But with the shower of unmentionables running world football i wouldn't hold my breath

It is very viable for those like me who have played BB. But assuming you are playing BB in a DGW, you are just going to take heaps of hits to prepare?

Also, Chelsea player are not as essential as you make think from GW20.

            GW20-25:
            tot/lei/HUL/liv/ARS/bur

Attacking point of view, Hull at home is the only really good one. Defence point of view, only Hull and Burnley look very good (yes they are clearly the best defence in the league but still).

From GW26 is the time to load up if you wish.

To be honest, I'm not that worried about the Chips. I'm not going to worry about the bench in a DGW. Most of the players on the bench will be crap anyway. I'll swallow whatever I lose, if at all. I kinda gave up midway last year but then to make up ground, I took too many punts on my wildcard and that failed too. Triple captain Lukaka to add to that. I have gotten myself into a tangle playing with differentials and have no Chelsea, no Arsenal, no Kun and rather shocking defenders. Rather keep pace now and roll the dice later.

Should have used the same tactic as me that Ruth NZ proposed in pre season - plan team for the first 3 weeks GW1 BB and GW4 WC. I even managed to get rid of AOA GW2 (unsuccessfully) as I had a 5.5m mid from my GW1 BB. TC is the only one to worry about for a DGW.

              1. fedolefan

I hadn't thought much about chips since I didn't believe them to be a game changer or whatever, given my disastrous returns last year. Thought I'd deal with them when the time comes. My only use for the AOA is to save a hit on the defense. Guaranteed 4 points from that and so I always save that until required. Anything else is rolling the dice and at best you come out ahead by 10 points or so. Very rarely is your 5th mid going to haul and so it's crap anyway.

My only concern with a GW1 BB and a 3 week plan is it means you most likely are setting yourself up for an early wildcard. I don't like deciding things well in advance, for last season, I had like 6 fit players after the first international break. With GW20, I can set my defense for the season fairly early and at relatively lower prices. Then just keeping tinkering the mids. My defense has returned just 14 cleanies and 144 points I think. That's terrible and I want to rectify that soon.

Yep the chips can be more of a hindrance than a positive. AOA and BB in particular.

Is it just me or you seem to be overlooking the fact we have two WCs? Because technically GW20 is a very early WC (for the second WC).

I know it's early, but I think my poor defense and a lack of big hitters is reason enough. I really want Kun, Alexis, Ibra and Valencia. Can't fit them all in without major hits given my low-ish team value.

Yep but are you not contradicting yourself a bit then?

“I don't like deciding things well in advance“

Seems to me that is exactly what your doing for you next WC. I think it makes perfect sense to plan for it btw, just not sure on your statement before and why you can’t do the same with the first WC.

I know, but I'm not deciding well in advance, am I? I know my team is not great right now and so am fixing it. With GW1, I'm not really sure if my team is good or bad.

Not really - have all my Chelsea players and Alexis, as well as enough money in the bank to do Ibra to Kun 😉

          OK, boast over...

Ibra and Aguero as opposed to Ibra to Aguero.

I'll be saving it for the DGWs personally, but I think it's definitely an option depending on how happy you are with your team

Bad. Pardew built the whole team around Benteke and crossing the ball to him , not sure it will continue

I think it will be very good for him in the short term at least
Usually when a new manager is appointed the players will try their best to impress
And for Benteke that means goals

Big Sam teams play to suit a player like Benteke

Sam's last two strikers were D.Sakho and Defoe

Zaha might be going to the Africa Cup of Nations shortly so play Anichebe and save yourself doing another -4 in a few weeks
