Diego Costa is suspended for Chelsea’s clash with Bournemouth but Eden Hazard is fit and available. Arsenal’s Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is sidelined for a Boxing Day visit from the Baggies, while Everton keeper Maarten Stekelenburg remains a doubt for the trip to Leicester.

Diego Costa and N’Golo Kante will serve one-match suspensions as Chelsea welcome Bournemouth to the Bridge. Antonio Conte confirmed that Eden Hazard is fit for the Cherries’ encounter after midweek reports suggested he was a minor doubt due to a knee problem.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is sidelined for Arsenal’s clash with West Brom due to the muscle injury that forced him off away to Man City. Arsene Wenger has also confirmed that Aaron Ramsey is back in full training, while Danny Welbeck joins in today after months out with a knee injury.

Marko Arnautovic remains suspended for Stoke’s trip to Liverpool, though Ibrahim Afellay has been included in the squad for the first time this term – the Dutchman stepped up his recovery from a long-term knee injury with a run out for the reserves last week. Reports suggest that stopper Jack Butland could be out for at least another two months after undergoing further surgery on his ongoing ankle injury.

West Ham’s Diafra Sakho could be sidelined until March after undergoing surgery on an ongoing back problem.

Viktor Fischer is sidelined “for at least two-to-three weeks” with a knee problem, according to Middlesbrough manager Aitor Karanka.

Tony Pulis is optimistic on Jonny Evans’ chances of making West Brom’s Boxing Day trip to Arsenal. Saido Berahino still needs more matches to up his match fitness, while James Morrison is rated a doubt due to flu.

Maarten Stekelenburg remains doubtful for Everton’s trip to Leicester with a leg problem sustained during Monday’s derby loss to Liverpool. James McCarthy is out for two-to-three weeks with a hamstring injury picked up in the same match.

Ki Sung-Yeung is back in full training and expected to be available for Swansea’s clash with West Ham. Federico Fernandez will be assessed after missing out recently with a foot problem.

Sebastian Prodl and Stefano Okaka will be assessed ahead of Watford’s clash with Palace after both returned to light training. Walter Mazzarri has conceded that Roberto Pereyra “will be out for some months” with a knee injury.

Opinions on going light up front? i.e. Llorente , Benteke , Rondon

Allows for a fabulous remainder of team. I'm seriously considering. I've currently Llorente & Bentake & Costa. Costa to say Rondon (or even Anichebe) allows for a mid of Mane, Hazard, Sanchez, Walcott & Lallana. A backline then of say Alonso, Brunt, Baines, Clyne, Holebas.

      No.

Too many weeks that front line will let you down and give you a ton of red arrows.

I'd prob go for a 4-5-1 most of the time. Alonso-Baines-Brunt-Clyne then Mane (swap for Coutinho in Jan) , Haz, Sanchez, Wally, Lallana

There's a marked difference in value in terms of points per mil spent between defence and attack. The ultimate aim is to extract the maximum amount of points per million spent. 13 mil on Kun for example is less than half the value as the 4.5 mil initially spent on someone like McAuley. That's where I reckon I fell short in previous years. I went too heavy up front, and tried to go too cheap at the back. It's quite possible there'll be weeks that a front line of say Kun, Kane, Zlatan score a collective 6 (or 3 with yellows 🙂 ) A 35 mil + front line needs to be getting you 20 points per week min on average, otherwise it's a waste of funds. I'm just not convinced that the premium templates up front this year are guaranteeing these returns.

Furthermore, I don't believe that Kun or Zlatan are going to pull way off in terms of points against the likes of Lallana & Wally. Lallana isn't far off half the price of Kun!! And there's every chance that Lallana outscores Kun!! At the very least it'll be close. So this 6 mil quid alone gives you Alonso, Baines etc over Pieters , Amat etc

There is not a hope in hell Lallana outscores Kun when he is back.

If you had have made the same comment at the beginning of the season up until this point, your 'not a hope in hell' comment would have been spectacularly wrong

                        9 years, 2 months ago

You have just said there is every chance he out scores Kun so you are being seriously assumptive. There is zero chance he out scores Kun unless Kun gets injured. By all means pick a team but dont try and justify it with such ridiculous claims.

well actually, your claim is ridiculous. I said that there's a chance. Your side of the argument claims that there's 'not a hope'. Well.... there is a hope. There is a good chance. Why do I say that? Well, Lallana has already outscored Kun up to this point. He has also achieved more points per minute played. So that's the basis of my comment. What's the basis of your comment?

Lallana scored 6 goals from 12 unblocked shots this entire season. I highly doubt that is sustainable. Aguero's stats have been amazing, unlucky not to have scored more.

To be fair, at least your argument is sound and is backed by facts! It's a fair point as well. I think though that Lallana has a knack of getting himself in good positions, and perhaps only shoots when he has a clear shot (unlike maybe Aguero)

Yes, but Kane will not keep getting 2 pointers from now till the end of the season, though, will he!

Very quickly he can start firing double digit game weeks in succession and its likely to happen very soon. Your 3 cheapie could go weeks returning you 1's and 2's.

One cheapie is fair enough, but relying on 3 of them really isn't a great strategy in my opinion.

Need to get rid of Morrison(as Costa benched) and need a mid with an outside chance of some points in this next game. Can afford £4.9 and I think it's between Capoue and Can(s.t. team news). Also strangely thinking of Routledge as an outside shot at points. Also will be my 5th mid and these 3 have ok fixtures in case of rotation. I don't like Carrick or De Roon as options....My defenders are Smith and Nyom that I'm planning to bench this week. Any thoughts?

There are 4,242,598 teams at the moment and next season it will probably be even higher. FPL should just expand the FPL Cup for one more gameweek and start in GW16 with 4,194,304 allowed to qualify.

I know FPL Cup is not very meaningful, but I miss the fun of being knocked out of it by a dead team in the first round as I failed to qualify for the first time ever. 🙁

'Tis The Season To Be Jolly - A Christmas Pep Talk!

Ok guys this is the season to be positive! This time last year I was 150 points behind my ML leader, but through diligence and a clever wildcard/chip strategy I reeled him in with a 148 point DGW score. I knew I had him on the rack when the following week he took a -16! Ended up about 25 ahead in the end. IT CAN BE DONE! 🙂

I've had a shocking three week run after getting things seemingly sorted with five greens in six weeks, dropping from 700k to 1.6m... I'm down there with the ghosts of Christmas's past now.. 🙁

However the fight back starts now. I've a 6ft 5" black belt Swedish captain who is at last repaying me my faith.. Lots of opportunity to gain ground over Christmas...

Happy Christmas and good luck to you all and thanks for keeping me entertained through the year. And thanks to the Scouts for a great site and the Scoutcast which is the best hour's telly everyweek! 🙂

        SSN pundits talk utter nonsense.

"Why is Mourinho looking to sell Schneiderlin?"

"To get money in to spend"

The last time I looked they were the richest club in the world.

"Why hasn't he got in the team?"

"Well the manager thinks "I prefer him, not him""

        What a load Ballacks.

unknown. it depends on how many premier league teams make the FA cup quarter finals and League Cup semis. If i recall teams that go to the CL semis also will have a DGW. remember that when a team has a DGW they will also have a blank gw which also adds to the excitement.

could be 3 or 4 including one massive where there are 5 or 6 team with 2 PL games in a week.

almost embarrassed to ask, what to do with Nacho? 1 more week home to WAT. If i will eventually to a cheap long term 3rd striker, either Rondon or Negredo.

          1. do i keep
          2. for Negredo or Rondon?

Bit late but I'm keeping too as moved his useless mate Stones on this week. Don't trust a -4 selling him as Pep will no doubt start him then watch as he gets a brace!

          Arsene Wenger:

          - on the latest team news
I think for Monday we lose Chamberlain from the last game against City. I don’t know if Ramsey will be involved or not but he will be back in full training today. The good news is that Welbeck will join in today for the first time - he has been out for a very long time. Mustafi is still out until the beginning of January.

          - on Oxlade-Chamberlain
It’s not very bad. It’s a question of days rather than weeks.

          - on Ramsey
You know the strengths of Aaron. He’s efficient offensively, he has a high level of activity and is a very complete box-to-box player. Overall I think he gives us options in the team when he plays. Yes he’s almost like a new signing because he has not played many games. He has played maybe two games since the start of the season, but let’s not be too premature. He’s had some setbacks and I hope this time he will be alright.

          - on Welbeck
I’m cautious with Ramsey and even more with Welbeck, because Welbeck will need some time. Friday is his first team training session. Of course it’s fantastic, because for him it’s like starting a new career, because he has been out for such a long time. But I’m a bit cautious with the little setbacks you have when you have been out for a long time. You have to be patient.

I want Walcott fairly soon but with his injury record and Arsenal playing two days apart on GW19 & 20 he's bound to get tested for one of them. So does he get a rest for Palace (home) or Bournemouth (away)? Don't want to sign him for Palace only for him to be rested that week but I don't mind if I get him for that game and then he's rested the week after. What's the most likely do we think?

Really dodgy pick for those two games IMO. Only go with him if you're prepared to be let down for one of the games.

Having said that many other picks are in the same boat.

I really don't mind if he plays Palace and not Bournemouth. It just seems like a coin toss as to whether that will be the case though.
