His biggest tally of the season. A third successive double-figure total. Sixty-eight points in his last seven Gameweek starts.

We can’t deny the numbers – Zlatan Ibrahimovic is delivering and refusing to leave the door ajar for a cast of competitors up front.

Both Diego Costa and Sergio Aguero are now back from the cold and, while we will doubtless begin measuring up for the surgery to install one of that pair alongside the Swede, it currently seems unthinkable to drop the Manchester United striker.

Having scored or assisted 16 of 26 goals scored while he’s been on the pitch, Ibrahimovic has been involved in 61% of United’s goals. While Jose Mourinho’s men have yet to hit the heights to suggest that they are a true attacking force, that’s a difficult statistic to ignore.

Zlatan’s fixtures remain strong and, seemingly classed as “undroppable” by Mourinho; there appears little or no counter argument. Ibrahimovic increased by 0.3 in price ahead of today’s deadline and, again, he’s already ranked second only to Costa for transfers, with another hike looming.

If we wish to opt for two heavyweights in our forward lines, our decision currently appears to create a head-to-head between Costa and Aguero: two strikers who present two very different scenarios.

Chelsea are undoubtedly pacesetters supreme. Their current form and confidence cannot be questioned and, while the fixture list remains demanding, it would be brave to underestimate Antonio Conte’s side against any opposition.

Manchester City’s fixtures are also testing, but they will go to Anfield on New Year’s Eve still in stuttering form.

The Gameweek 17 victory over Arsenal looked priceless in re-establishing their status as title challengers but the performance in tonight’s 3-0 win at Hull City was, for long periods, still unconvincing.

Aguero may be able to circumvent any malaise and doubts – arguably, he could flick the switch and re-invigorate City’s season.

However, at 12.8, he costs a princely sum which would surely restrict flexibility in midfield or defence. In many ways, Aguero now represents a gamble.

That seems an unthinkable and unlikely sentence to write on these pages. The Argentine has, for so long, been a mainstay of the Fantasy Football Scout community and an asset that requires little thought or research. But that is surely no longer the case.

Having missed seven matches of the season through ill-discipline and, with the jury still out on Pep Guardiola’s side, the choice between Costa and Aguero is not straightforward and even appears weighted in the Chelsea man’s favour.

Currently 2.1 cheaper than Aguero, the Spaniard has shown unerring consistency and, crucially, could allow us to retain significant funds in midfield, or even opt for a Blues pairing in defence.

But, as we’ve seen, the landscape can shift so quickly. With just a matter of days before Gameweek 19, our opinions and plans have to remain flexible.

Midfield assets like Eden Hazard and Alexis Sanchez, in particular, are under constant pressure to perform now that Aguero is back in the game.

Hazard’s spot-kick against Bournemouth may have kept talk of an exodus subdued for now, although two goals in six Gameweek starts is still not enough to justify his selection now that Costa has returned to the equation. We need more from Hazard against Stoke City.

As for Sanchez, he hit a post and fired in more attempts than any other player in Monday’s matches but has now produced just a single goal since his heralded hat-trick at the London Stadium back in Gameweek 14.

Arsenal still appear to be struggling at the Emirates without Santi Cazorla in the double pivot. That needs to change for the visit of Big Sam’s Crystal Palace: we perhaps need to see Sanchez back in the striker’s role. We certainly need him back in the points to stave off any talk of exit plans.

Again, such a knee-jerk reaction seems unthinkable when we look back on the scramble for the Chilean’s services only last month.

But that’s typical of this campaign and, for tonight at least, the only current certainty appears to be relentlessly providing and scoring goals for Manchester United.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Price won't change until 6 hours after the game ends. If you have no interest in Hazard then I guess it doesn't matter although a Lallana injury could have changed plans.

Kane has as many double figure hauls as Costa in 5 less games. Why you wouldn't wait for his Soton fixture before selling is beyond me

Kane is already facing a potential price drop soon, surely before his Soton game.
        Costa next game is Stoke(H)
Kane next game is Watford (H)
And then in GW 20 they face each other. So its balanced. But Costa in form,Kane not

Kane wasn't dropping today according to fpl stats & costa is price locked.
There was no need to do the transfers today, you could've atleast waited until tomorrow

Good team! You could have waited for costa till day end.
Could you advise me. I am confused and dont have time at all to explore good options. I think either of Anichebe, Snodgrass or Chadli has to go...

      Forster (Pickford)
      Jones, Alonso, Ake (Collins, Pieters)
      Hazard, Mane, Walcott, Snodgrass, Chadli
      Ibrahim (c), Costa, (Anichebe)

Salah- get the "fpl Price Change Predictor" and u can stay ahead of price rise/falls. If Lallana gets hurt tomorrow you"ll have to take a hit to get him out. The Price Change Predictor really helps- Kane is not due for a fall tonight.

To those wandering about Tekkers penalty duties....

Asked if Benteke would retain responsibility for penalties after his second miss this season, Allardyce said: "I'll look at that in the week. Missing two out of three is obviously not very good. He's disappointed enough missing it. It happens, doesn't it?

"We have to find somebody who scores them like Mark Noble; one in 26 missed. You've got to convert them. (It was) a massive turning point."

    http://au.eurosport.com/football/premier-league/2016-2017/sam-allardyce-laments-missed-benteke-penalty-as-palace-bow-ends-in-draw_sto5992898/story.shtml

Make of it what you will but I think hes saying goodbye to penalties.

Best of both worlds is to make medium term transfers. Watch the points role in and TV increase. Seriously I was on a hit and transfer binge trying to chase every rise. Tried to stop in the last 2-3 weeks and OR and TV is improving.

Perhaps , but always reluctant to buy a Pulis attacker. Much rather gamble with Redmond or J-Rod (heard you picked him up in Fantrax , great job!)

                  Yep got his brace 😎
I've got Austin injured for 4 months so I reckon I deserve Jrod 😉

Redmond obviously safer for minutes but I reckon Jrod has a higher points potential.

Realistically a Sot'n attacker isn't much better than a Pulis attacker. Coming from someone who always tried to get Pelle, Long, or Redmond. Would love a little J.Rod action if his time was secure. Wish Austin was bloody fit.

Reached 11K with Hazard as Captain, additional 10 points with Zlatan as captain would have put me under 10K!

      I actually feel opposite 😛

As long as our captain score is not that much different from the highest scorer, it wont change much.

Like Payet(c) got me 9pts less than Ibra(c) would have got, thats probably 5k rise in rank? Not much damage, maybe captaincy matters more when it comes to top 10k 😛

        3 fails in a row, hopefully won't be 4.

A fail will make it easier to bring in Costa though

will be a good test vs Southampton's rigid defence

This drop won't cost me as I bought at 10.8 but one more failure and he's out for Costa

So I'm looking to get Aguero in for the Burnley game, likely season keeper barring anything catastrophic. Problem is, there are very few mids I like to replace Hazard. After Stoke I really don't think he's worth keeping, at least for a while.

Do I double up with Sterling+Aguero, or should I go for Costa+Sterling. Or other?

Dont you think Costa have been sharper that Aguero this year?

Not really no. I believe Aguero actually has a better goals per minute/game record. He's also on penalties. City are also likely to keep scoring more (granted Chelsea did score 3 again today so maybe those 1-0 games were the anomaly). Costa's been more consistent and getting assists as well, but I think Aguero will still outscore him from here on.

Love that phrase "season keeper". Until he gets injured (highly likely) or suspended again, or becomes subject to rotation with Gabriel Jesus, or loses form etc

Hence "something catastrophic". That was his first red of his EPL career, so it's very unlikely that happens again. Injuries aren't 'that' common for him, but would force an evaluation, and we all know that Aguero doesn't lose form 😉

what if Pep decides to rest him for the Burnley game since it's less than 48h after Pool (I decided I'm keeping Iheancho for that same game)

It's a risk, but he's still more likely to score off the bench than Kane will be to score at Chelsea. Costa won't get much, if anything, against Spurs as well, so I feel if there's any week to risk it's that one. I'll reassess after City play Liverpool.

I don't think you're quite familiar with Harry Kane and you seem to be under the impression that big name players don't score in big games.

On a side note, the moment I read my own words of keeping Iheanacho for the Burnley game I vomited.

Ha, best of luck with Nacho if you do keep. I know the big players should still score in big games, but surely their odds are less against better defences; they will have less chances and less freedom. A lot of the big games are low scoring low margin games. I'm very familiar with Kane 😉 was a proud early owner in his breakthrough season.

I'm not keeping him, although I acknowledged my stupidity by even toying with the idea.
