Gameweek 18 comes to its conclusion this Wednesday evening as Southampton welcome Tottenham Hotspur to St Mary’s.

Claude Puel’s men seek a fourth successive clean sheet in front of their own supporters, with ever-present Virgil van Dijk (13% ownership) the most popular Saints player by some distance in Fantasy Premier League.

After netting twice in the 3-1 win at Bournemouth, Jay Rodriguez retains his role up front and is afforded another chance to play his way into our plans ahead of some fine upcoming fixtures.

Back-to-back home blanks against Hull and Burnley persuaded many to part company with Harry Kane last time out – the Spurs frontman was second only to Diego Costa for transfers out in Gameweek 18. Nonetheless, a big performance could have a big effect in the FPL standings – Kane is the sixth most captained player for this round of fixtures.

His Tottenham team-mate Christian Eriksen also earned significant sales after failing to deliver points against the Clarets, yet both have the underlying numbers to punish those who chose to look elsewhere.

    Need a bit of help
    I have Pickford and jaku so without a goalie. I want Heaton but I'm 0.1 short, should I save the transfer and get Heaton next week or just get a different keeper (4.7 or below)

    I'm now on... Siggy, Hazard, Sanchez, Eriksen, Mane

    Happy with that for this week with Ibra and Negredo/anichebe up top! Will take out Mane and one other after Sunderland game and downgrade to bring in Costa

        I ditched him 2 weeks ago - good player in a poor team - also Hazard's not exactly set the world alight recently and questions starting to be asked about Sanchez - certainly in terms of goal scoring consistency - just saying maybe midfield should not necessarily where it's at with Costa and Ibra banging them in each week and Kun back in town

      Some good points. Sanchez has amazing fixtures coming up so hoping he converts those shots.

      I will take the next two weeks to assess Costa or Aguero and then take the plunge i'd expect.

      Just hope they don't burn me in that time!

    After Ali's haul tonight, I think once again the big hot topic of the moment is ...... MIDFIELD COMPENSATORS.

    Most people can only afford 2 premium strikers out of Ibra, Aguero, Kane and Costa.

    For the 2 premium strikers you DONT have, should you get their midfield teammates to compensate?

    For example, if you haven't got Kane up front, should you get Ali? Or if you can't afford Ibra, should you get Pogba?

    There must be a holy grail combination of:

    2 premium strikers + 2 midfield teammates of the 2 premium strikers you don't have.

    Could it be Ibra & Aguero + Ali & Hazard?

    I guess this goes back to the age old debate about whether coverage is effective.

      It's not even about compensators for me. I can afford Ibra Kun and Costa but the reality is that it effectivelt stops me picking about half the picks in the game. As I like a hit or two that matters to me.

        Based on what I said in the original post, would "Costa & Ibra + Ali & Silva" not work better than ... "Costa & Ibra + Form/fixtures"?

        i.e. You have gone for Costa & Ibra so go for the midfield compensator teammates of the 2 premium strikers you don't have.

      Coverage makes no sense. Attacking players stand or fall on their own merits. At the moment, I'd rather own Alli than Kane

      id hold if at all possible, arsenals fixtures are great and an arsenal double up in midfield could be golden! I have the poor mans version sanchez and chamberlain.... no sure if he will be fit though

        To be honest I'd probably opt for Rondon over Carroll if I was you (I intend to in a couple of weeks). Do you have Brunt already ? If not bring him in or failing that Jones or a Borough Def maybe ? Thanks for response, an Arsenal double up with Alexis and Theo seemed ideal last week, how things can change !

    This is probably the most difficult captain choice of the season.
    Sanchez, Ibra, Hazard, Costa...

    All have home games and nice fixtures - captain choice is especially key this week considering most teams will have 3/4 or all 4!
