Gameweek 18 comes to its conclusion this Wednesday evening as Southampton welcome Tottenham Hotspur to St Mary’s.

Claude Puel’s men seek a fourth successive clean sheet in front of their own supporters, with ever-present Virgil van Dijk (13% ownership) the most popular Saints player by some distance in Fantasy Premier League.

After netting twice in the 3-1 win at Bournemouth, Jay Rodriguez retains his role up front and is afforded another chance to play his way into our plans ahead of some fine upcoming fixtures.

Back-to-back home blanks against Hull and Burnley persuaded many to part company with Harry Kane last time out – the Spurs frontman was second only to Diego Costa for transfers out in Gameweek 18. Nonetheless, a big performance could have a big effect in the FPL standings – Kane is the sixth most captained player for this round of fixtures.

His Tottenham team-mate Christian Eriksen also earned significant sales after failing to deliver points against the Clarets, yet both have the underlying numbers to punish those who chose to look elsewhere.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

    Tempted by a -8 and switching to 4-4-2;

    Kane > Kun
    Eriksen > De Roon
    Evans > Azpi

    Pick (Jak)
    Alonso Azpi Walker Jones (Amat)
Sanchez Hazard Siggy Zaha (De Roon)
    Kun Ibra (Diomande)

I know deep down I should deal with Zaha and Pickford though.

Spurs racked up the most minutes out of all the PL clubs during this years Euro's.

I can see them having a poor 2nd half of the season in general.

I will never understand why mucking about with the ball outside the box and waiting for an opening is a good tactic. It just isn't.

Early ball into the box and the sooner the better is the way to go....always. Watch when Chelsea get the ball...they just drive towards the goal, no mucking about. Spurs are getting sucked into what Arsenal do sometimes...so far anyway.

    Rubbish.

With respect Spurs are not Barca and never will be. Spurs doing this simply allows a defence to be "set".

    4. Karan_G14

      9 years, 3 months ago

They depend too much on full backs for speed on the wings.

They need a pacey winger and need be more direct. Too much possession but no end product.

    5. Big Red Dog
      • 14 Years
      9 years, 3 months ago

Have to disagree, Chelsea play a lot around the box. Their attack is well rounded.

It depends on the players you have. I do agree that Spurs are more suited to early balls into the box though. It's harder when a good Southampton side are pressing that aggressively also. I think we will see late goals in this one, and maybe a few Southampton counter if someone can catch J Rod on the burst.

      1. Dr Dream

They do indeed mix it up well....never more dangerous than when they drive in at goal though. They're fab at that.
