Adam Lallana maintains his fine recent form, while Roberto Firmino breaks his scoring duck as Liverpool secure a comeback win over Stoke City. Here’s the impact of last night’s action.

On the Rise

Adam Lallana
It’s four goals and an assist in the last four Gameweeks for the Liverpool midfielder after his leveller against Stoke.

Now up to fourth in the FPL midfield standings, the 7.5-priced Lallana’s average of 6.1 points per match is bettered only by Alexis Sanchez (7.2) and Eden Hazard (6.6) in that position.

Nonetheless, the upcoming schedule could be a lot easier for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Up against Man City, Manchester United, Chelsea and Spurs in the next seven Gameweeks, heavy investment in the Reds comes packaged with a major caveat, particularly at a time when the schedule smiles kindly on the likes of Arsenal and United.

Daniel Sturridge, Roberto Firmino
The England international needed just seconds to get on the scoresheet after capitalising on a wayward Ryan Shawcross back pass.

Sturridge continues to be handed minutes off the bench by his manager but is strengthening his claim for a starting role with every appearance – he’s now scored or assisted in three of his last four, despite all those outings arriving as a substitute.

Although Divock Origi supplied an assist, he’s now gone two matches without a goal and the upcoming schedule – with matches on Saturday and Monday – suggests that Sturridge could well be due a start.

Firmino also deserves a mention here after ending a six-match man drought with the Reds’ second.

Having dropped 0.3 in price over the last two Gameweeks, the Brazilian’s strike and maximum bonus should be enough to ease the exodus. Furthermore, with Philippe Coutinho due back imminently, Firmino’s expected return to the “false nine” role should boost his points potential once more.

Owners should still be aware, however, that Firmino will appear in court to face drink drive charges on January 31 – the same day as the Reds are due to take on Chelsea in Gameweek 23.

Jon Walters
Partnered by Peter Crouch as Mark Hughes opted for a 3-5-2 at Anfield, the Potters midfielder grabbed a second goal in his last four appearances.

The versatile Walters has now started five of the last six Gameweeks at a time where the likes of Wilfried Bony seems to have fallen firmly out of favour at the bet365.

Granted, he’ll never be the most fashionable of Fantasy picks but, judging by Hughes’ recent teamsheets, the Irishman seems to have secured his role as a regular once again.

Erik Pieters
Stationed as a left wing-back at Anfield, the Dutchman’s assist for Stoke’s opener was his first set of attacking returns this season.

An upcoming trip to Chelsea will ensure we steer clear of the Potters right now but, beyond that, the 4.5-priced Pieters could appeal as the cheapest of their defenders. Hughes’ side then face a run of four home fixtures in six, allied with trips to Sunderland and West Brom.

In Decline

Sadio Mane
The wide man failed to build on last week’s winner at Everton and has scored just once in the last four Gameweeks.

With the Afric Cup of Nations just around the corner, Mane now has just two more matches before leaving for international duties, including the New Year’s Ever encounter against City.

Given that he’s also set to face Sunderland in Gameweek 20, many of his 21% FPL owners may be content to hold for now, though plenty have already opted for the exit door – only Theo Walcott and Gylfi Sigurdsson have earned more transfers out in midfield prior to Friday’s deadline.

Xherdan Shaqiri
The Swiss international has now warmed the Stoke bench from start to finish in each of the last two Gameweeks.

Surprisingly, Shaqiri’s fall from favour has also come at a time when Marko Arnautovic is suspended, with Hughes even turning to Ramadan Sobhi and the fit-again Ibrahim Afellay as substitutes at Anfield instead.

Typically a regular starter when fit for the Potters, it seems that the former Bayern man is no longer guaranteed minutes as Hughes continues to seek a solution in the final third.

I fell like my team is falling apart. 1FT, 0 idb.

    Jaku, Pickford*
    Alonso, Clyne, Holebas, Evans, Amat
    Sanchez, Walcott*, Hazard, Siggy, Fletcher
    Ibra, Origi*, Costa

Plan was to get Kun but now with Wally inury risk, Origi rotation risk and Pickford out I don't know what to do. Think that getting GK for a hit is good choice in long term but how to fit in Kun (in place of Ibra) and get rid of Origi?

Walcott's knock is minor so I would hold off for the time being. Kun is not essential as Ibra and Costa are more than capable of covering for him

The other option of course is to keep both Theo and Origi until you have more news about both; and just do a GK trade. Could you afford anyone half decent if you sold Holebas for someone like Ake or Chambers?

Or actually downgrading Clyne would enable you to get a better GK

See post below - not sure why Origi is a rotation risk. Wait on Pickford news - if he is out for a long time then transfer him out. Walcott is a good player - you might need to bench him, but over a season he will deliver. I think Clyne and Holebas would be the ones I would change - Boro, Palace, Man Utd, Arsenal, Everton have good defensive assets worth buying.

Surprised people are dumping Origi. I don't have him, but with Coutinho injured, Firmino in trouble, Sturridge unreliable and Mane off to AFCON he seems like he will get minutes. I can easily see Klopp picking:

    Lallana Henderson Can
    Coutinho / Mane* Origi Firmino

*Mane and then Coutinho when Mane has gone to AFCON

It's a tough decision if he's ruled out for more than 1 more game I might shift him to Lallana.

But if he's only missing 1 more game or fit for the weekend then I'm definitely keeping as fixtures don't get better than this for Arsenal till end of the season.

I'm sure this has been mentioned already but Firmino's court date being the 31st Jan makes no difference.

The game is @ Liverpool and is an 8pm ko. Very unlikely to have his appointment that late an no real travel to worry about.

Liverpool crown court is quite far away from Anfield, if he has an appointment at say 4pm, getting out of Liverpool in rush hour to Anfield could prove problematic, particularly given that Liverpool have an evening match and everyone leaves early.

Who knows how long the Jury will take?! Big case this.

Seriously though surely he'll just have a lawyer represent him and will settle for a hefty fine. Nobody can say people on this site overthink things too much...

Sigurdsson has one good home game left for a while then you could bring in Lallana for next 5 which includes - Sunderland (a), Swansea (h), Hull (a)

    Kane+Eriksen > Kun+Chadli

    Or

    Kane+Siggy > Kun+Phillips

    Or any other suggestions?

    Would leave me:

    Heaton (Jaku)
    Walker Alonso Pieters (Evans, Amat)
    Sanchez Coutinho Eriksen/Siggy Phillips/Chadli (Capoue)
    Kun Zlatan Carroll

Brought in De Gea a couple of weeks ago since I had the luxury to waste a transfer on it and now it looks like a decent move with the Pickford injury. Funny how things work out.

Best 6.0m midfielder for a 3/4th mid, already have Snodgrass?

Really want to see many minutes Redmond gets today as he'll be ideal. Only other option I can see is Phillips.

So there could be a team to qualify from the second with zero goals scored, one point and getting to knockout coz of their Fifa ranking, plain stupid!

Thanks. I will probably only keep Rodriguez Sanchez Costa and Alonso for certain.

Theo being fit would be very handy. Boosts Sanchez a bit too

It seriously would be. Would save 4 points and I wouldn't have to chase points.

    1 FT:
    Bank: 0.3

    Heaton
    Walker - Cedric - Amat
    Sanchez - Eriksen - Walcott - Sigurdsson
    Ibrahimovic (c) - Origi - Costa
Subs: Pickford, Capoue, Evans and Pieters.

What do you think of my team?

Cap Costa. Lacks Che def. Get rid of Amat.

That 3rd spot is an absolute nightmare, currently have Origi but really nobody I like

Was all set on Benteke but Zaha leaving and him prob no longer on pens, is a bummer

I would stick with Origi. He is playing, getting chances and has assist potential. Good value at the price.

Rondon the only one that draws my attention but honestly you would be better off with a 3-5-2.

        Yea think so too

The Aguero Ibra Costa front 3 is hurting the rest of my team.

Is Walcott worth dropping for Lallana for (-4) even if he misses the game against Palace this weekend?

Arsenal: (CRY, bou, swa, BUR, WAT, che, HUL)

Pool: (MCI, sun, mun, SWA, CHE, hul, TOT)

    Appreciate your thoughts!

Nope you would want Theo back later anyway if he only misses 1 game. 2GWs become a borderline decision. Depends on your bench I guess

No. Theo will get decent points across these fixtures.

On paper only gws 20,24,32 and 37 stand out as dangerous weeks for a non Kun owner. There are plenty of equally good or better captains from other teams the remaining 15 gws.

It's not so much going without him for the whole season, can't write him off like that. But currently he has neither form nor the fixtures particularly, and Costa/Ibra gives you better PPM this season and more money ITB. City also quite inconsistent.

Not ruling out Aguero at some point, but people bringing him in for Costa or Ibra are mad at the moment with the form they're in. All 3 ruins your team in my opinion.

I agree. Not worth it until after gw25 as it looks right now. Hopefully a lot of people burn their wildcard to get him.

One to monitor -could do well under big Sam but I think it's too early to make a move for him currently.

I'm tempted if he is back on pens.

But I'm not sure if he's abteer option than Phillips.

Evans to brunt worthwhile or too much of a sideways move?

Brunt is clearly the better WBA defender, I think it's a good move.

Would have to do it for a it as already made my FT but I think I may still do it - better option long term due to better stacking returns etc

So Lallana has 7 goals and 6 assists in half of the season.

He's oncourse to better his 9 goals and 9 assists 3 seasons ago by some margin.

Bargain for a liverpool midfeidler at 7.6m right ?
