Theo Walcott is likely to miss Arsenal’s clash with Palace. Sunderland stopper Jordan Pickford is out for six-to-eight weeks with a knee problem, while Philippe Coutinho remains unavailable as Liverpool entertain Man City.

Here’s the latest team news ahead of tonight’s Gameweek 19 deadline.

Arsene Wenger has conceded that he doesn’t expect Theo Walcott to recover from a calf complaint in time for Arsenal’s clash with Palace. Kieran Gibbs is also likely to miss out, though Danny Welbeck and Shkodran Mustafi are both back in contention. The Gunners boss also admitted that he has “one or two uncertainties with flu”, though failed to elaborate.

Liverpool pair Philippe Coutinho and Joel Matip remain sidelined for the New Year’s Eve clash with Man City, with Jurgen Klopp conceding he’s “pretty sure” the Brazilian will also miss the Gameweek 20 clash against Sunderland two days’ later.

Jordan Pickford has been ruled out for six-to-eight weeks after straining knee ligaments in Sunderland’s loss at Old Trafford. David Moyes has confirmed that Jack Rodwell, Javier Manquillo and Steven Pienaar have resumed light training – all three are unlikely to start, though have a chance of making the bench.

Claudio Ranieri is hopeful that Danny Drinkwater will be fit enough to start at home to West Ham. The Leicester boss also hinted at a first-team return for Riyad Mahrez after utilising the Algerian as a sub against Everton last time out.

Nathan Redmond serves a one-match suspension as Southampton take on West Brom. Claude Puel will assess the fitness levels of his players as they prepare for the second of three matches over a five-day stretch.

Swansea’s Jefferson Montero is expected to be sidelined for up to a month with the hamstring injury that forced him off against West Ham.

Watford pair Daryl Janmaat and Valon Behrami could be out for up to three weeks with the knocks that forced them off against Palace on Boxing Day.

Maarten Stekelenburg and James McCarthy are both still ruled out through injury, while Bryan Oviedo joins them on the sidelines as Everton make their way to Hull in the first match of Gameweek 19 this evening.

Jeff Hendrick is suspended for Burnley’s clash with Sunderland, while fellow midfielder Dean Marney will be assessed after picking up a knock.

Hull’s Abel Hernandez is back in training following a hernia operation but remains around two weeks away from a return.

Viktor Fischer is Middlesbrough’s only injury absentee for the trip to Old Trafford, while Antonio Barragan is set to serve a one-match suspension.

Manuel Lanzini is back in training but remains a slight for West Ham due to a rib injury. Pedro Obiang is available after serving a one-match suspension, though James Collins remains sidelined, with Slaven Bilic expecting the Welshman back next week.

Mark Hughes has revealed that Phil Bardsley has returned to training and could be rushed back into action due to a lack of defensive options for Stoke’s trip to the Bridge. Marc Muniesa and Geoff Cameron remain sidelined through injury.

Marc Pugh and Lewis Cook are Bournemouth’s only absentees for the trip to Swansea, Eddie Howe has confirmed.

All this and more has now been updated in the Team News section ahead of this evening’s 7pm deadline. Keep an eye on our official Twitter Stream for breaking news – as the day unfolds, we will issue updates from Friday’s press conferences and refresh our Team News tab accordingly to keep you informed.

Add me to that list. Eriksson's haul didn't help matters. I've brought in mkhitaryan for Walcott this week, worth a punt I reckon...

Cue Walcott making the bench and coming on for a cameo...

for me I'm going for Costa. I think Chelsea have the best fixture and in a festive scheduling full of uncertainty I feel that the Spanish striker is among the safest options following his one match lay off.

In addition he's mr consistency in terms of attacking returns. A nice dull option. 😉

I'm on Costa. Fresh, and I think Stoke will be bruised from the 'Pool game and just want this one to be over. Doubt there would be enough time for the management team there to instil some more confidence!

Ibra. Mainly because of the 2 goals to overtake Messi thing.

Sanchez and Hazard are my other options. No Theo puts me off Sanchez (although Palace have Delaney suspended) and got a feeling Stoke will be fairly solid v Chelsea after their pathetic performance v Liverpool

Lots of solid options this week for me, Sanchez, Hazard, Ibra, I also fancy the 2x Chelsea defenders I have to do well, Azpi and Alonso.

But I just cannot resist an Aguero (C) when he is a massive differential for the first time in ages.

4 gameweeks off, big match player and the best in the league on his day. All his largest points hauls so far have been away games, he plays a leaky Liverpool defence, and I just think City will be proper up for it considering the table position.

Could be inspired, could be woeful, either way it'll be entertaining!

one of those horrible GWs with too many choices (good luck future CIA owners!!)

        safe: Costa
        form: Ibra
        Due : Sanchez

going to be going back & fowards all day on this one and immediately feel nervous when the deadline passes.

probably end up playing it safe with Costa.
Knowing my luck Sanchez would be one of these flu players Wenger mentioned.

Sanchez because was my initial instinct choice.

Ibra would be my other option, captained last week but I think boro's defence is putting me off.

Hazard. He looked great on the weekend and could have had a goal or two more and a couple of assists. Stoke off a 3 day break after a hiding against Liverpool. I'm going Eden over Zlatan, Eriksen, Sanchez and Sigurðsson.

        Ibra:

        1) He has more upside compared to Costa
        2) He is in form both on goals and assists
        3) Boro have been good against weaker teams, but conceded a lot of chances against better teams - they will get a hiding at some point and it could be in this short gameweek.

I have Sanchez, Hazard and Ibra. I am bringing Aguero in for Origi but don't know whether to do that now for a -8 or wait for Burnley so Liverpool can ravage City's defence.

My instinct was Sanchez (and who I had put on as captain originally) but Big Sam will have the defence playing well. Hazard is too inconsistent. Borough have a good defence.

Other options are Alonso, Firmino and Origi. Tough one this week! If I had Costa. I'd go with him.

At the moment San(C)hez out of Sanchez,Ibra,Haz. Bookies odds indicate that he is most likely to get a goal (as well as a brace) of that bunch. Also fancy captaining a midfielder because they get that 1 extra point for a goal.

        Eriksen (c)

He's being completely overlooked for me. Burnley at home aside, he's delivered great returns of late. He's central to everything in a Spurs side that have recently clicked. All combined with a ragged Watford side that are struggling to field a side together.

I have Ibra, Costa, Hazard and Sanchez.

I still don't know and I find it very awkward, I have 5 feasible candidates (Zlatan, Lukaku, Alexis, Eden, Alli) and even Alonso wouldn't be the worst idea.

Stats are of no help and my only "gut" reaction is a feeling that Sanchez may be "due" (whatever that means).

The good thing is that having 5 viable captain options means that my team looks to be in good shape. 🙂

Perhaps the toughest captain choice of the season so far taking into account the fixtures, form of players and time of year. I think I'll end up on Sanchez, but very tempted by Costa, Hazard and Eriksen. I think the MUN game will be 1-0 at best unless they score very early.

May I present to my 'epic' Captain Fail run. As well as causing weekly anguish its almost become a self fulfilling prophecy constantly steering away from the best captain often just moments before the deadline. Admittedly I brought in Costa late (for GW15) and Ibra (for GW18,) but still managed to get burnt by missing a few other hauls with the options at my disposal in the given week.

GW11 Aguero: 12 points [Firmino 30 points, Hazard 38. Aguero was home to 'Boro and on decent form] [Overall Rank 32,132]

GW12 Aguero: 4 points [Costa 18 points, but not owned yet]

GW13 Firmino: 6 points [Aguero 24 points, did own, away to Burnley]

GW14 Austin: 2 points [Sanchez 46 points, did own, this one really hurts the most!] [Overall Rank 103,978]

GW15 Hazard: 6 points [Costa 16 points, did own]

GW16 Kane: 4 points [Most people got burned by Kane, Ibra's break out haul this week.]

GW17 Kane: 4 points [Most people got burned by Kane, another Ibra but still under radar] [Overall Rank 154,658]

GW18 Sanchez: 6 points [Ibra 30 points, now owned]

(All points are doubled i.e. what they would get as captain.)

        ..

So for this week, early thoughts are Costa or Ibra, having ruled out Sanchez and Hazard At least now that there are genuinely more candidates, a captain fail is slightly easier to stomach than GWs were the pool is a max of 3.

Sanchez for me. Have Hazard and Costa, Ibra and Jones. So a double up on my only Arsenal asset seems reasonable...

no it not irrelevant... smith who is a righr back plays as a right midfielder in the last month. so framcis moved to right back and ake found way in cb. with stanislas return a smith may be moved back on right back thats why i am asking. not irrelevant at all

Not nailed by any means no.

Afaik Francis and cook ate the first choice cbs when fit.

Bournemouth are one of the worst defences in the league thigh why do you want one of their defenders? Look past the random attacking points as you can't rely on these.

Not sure it makes that much difference, both do different things well. Pedro probably offers more threat, so it keeps defenders off Hazard a little, but WIllian is better creatively

There's a big difference between what Willian and Pedro offer.
Pedro is more attacking and looks to shoot more, while Willian looks for a pass rather than a shot.
I think Willian's distribution will help Hazard a lot, but 2 goals in the last 6 games for Eden worries me.

Might make some of you guys feel better. On average this season from my captains...

      Score (before doubling) = 3.8
      Score * 2 = 7.7

All season I've had 3 captains score over 5 points and it's destroyed my rank. Had I chose my VC each week I'd be 44 points better off than I am now. Had I chosen the best captain each week (from my team) then I'd be 306 points better off! 306!! Captaincy is everything in this game and I'm awful at it.

Antonio, Oh dear? He's quite consistent himself and if he gets to play in an attacking position (I doubt it until Byram is back) then he's a good option at that price! Reid is also a massive bandwagon but has scored well the last 3 weeks.

Benteke! Good for me I need him to drop before I get him in. Don't get the lack of Mane love.

      Heaton/Grant

      Alonso, Azpi, Jones (McCauley/Amat)
Siggy, Eriksen, Lallana, Sanchez (De Roon)
      Carroll, Costa, Ibra

0.8 in the bank, potentially to upgrade Lallana if/when Coutinho is back, or some Man City cover in midfield.

Grant's transfer saga is one concern but i'll deal with that if I have to.
