Sergio Aguero continues to create drama.

Today’s first act was an early afternoon bombshell from Manchester which sent shockwaves as Pep Guardiola’s teamsheet hit home.

Then, as the clock struck four, the second act followed: enter Aguero stage left to revive a ten-man City with a finish of sublime quality.

The full performance, spanning three hours, with Pep directing and Aguero as the dashing leading man, summed up our season so far with the Argentine.

It seems the days when Aguero settled in our squads and quietly went about the business of saving our Gameweeks are long gone.

Now the striker seems to insist on seeking the headlines and, just when we begin to settle on the idea of Aguero returning to his familiar groove, Pep intervenes with his own unpredictable flashes.

Some may have anticipated a benched Aguero against Burnley but I was certainly not among them.

Foolishly attempting to play “second guess Pep”, I presumed that he had earmarked the visit of the Clarets as an opportunity to ease Aguero back into goalscoring form.

Instead, according to his post-match comments, he looked to protect his striker from exertion following his unconvincing run-out at Anfield.

“He played 90 minutes after four games out and I did not consider him playing 90 minutes again after two days.”

That seems plausible but why start him on the bench rather than use him to get in front and then hook him early?

Match fitness is surely the issue, and, with a rest in the FA Cup tie next weekend on the cards, why not allow Aguero to regain that sharpness with a start?

Such questions and arguments fall on deaf ears: Pep doesn’t answer to me, other Fantasy managers and perhaps not even to the City fans. Judging by his post-match interview, he barely answers to journalists.

We know he plays by his own rules and that those rules are so often hideously difficult to decipher.

By the end of act two, Aguero had delivered. A seven point return isn’t perhaps a cause for celebration for the 135,000 who transferred him in, or indeed the 11% who gave him the armband. But it came as a huge relief given the reaction at 2pm.

However, do today’s events add to the doubts and concerns surrounding Peps approach to Aguero?

Given that City’s Champions League campaign will accelerate again in February and, by that time, they may even be cast adrift in the title race, will Pep’s attitude to Aguero’s pitch time hinder the striker’s potential further?

There is also another factor.

Gabriel Jesus is now a Manchester City player. A precocious talent, Pep has made it clear that he is about to become another option.

“Now Gabriel Jesus is coming so we will have of course three strikers who can sense a goal.”

This won’t help matters.

We had doubts already but Pep’s approach and teamsheet for Burnley’s visit to the Etihad, just day’s after losing ground following the defeat to Liverpool, has perhaps compounded matters.

Following two acts of ill-discipline, we’re not sure if we can trust Aguero. We’re also not sure if Pep can be trusted to get him on the pitch in the first place.

Aguero had the final say with another reminder of his brilliance. We know the quality he brings but are we willing to risk the hefty fee to buy into the circus that comes with it?

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    2 FTs

    Cedric to Ake
    Holebas to Brunt

    No brainer right?

Would wait but Brunt is to rise tonight.

Not enough cash. Need to do one to fund the other.

In fact both Cedric and Holebas have decent fixtures and was debating holding on. Both have been killing me with lack of starts/returns while Brunt is doing well. Patience is costing me.

THIS. A million times, I'm expecting at least 2 goals from him tonight. CS for Arsenal and maximum bonus so 16 points. 32 points taking my tally up to a respectable 71, I also expect Puncheon to score the only goal of the game and get me 11 points.

I have Hazard in midfield. People seem ditching him but he still looks good. On pen and looks attacking too.
Phillips + Stan + Capoue makes it too light. Though Phillips could end a gem

    2 questions:

    1) Is there much point in getting Philips unless he'll be used as a 4th mid? Can't really see him coming off the bench much especially now the hectic fixtures are out of the way.

      Doubtful. Does have good fixtures.

One of the things this season has been the chopping & changing of the cheaper 4th mids because there hasn't been any particularly consistent ones. One hits a patch of form then gets replaced by the next one with a hint of form.Zaha, Capoue, Allen, Gundogan, Snodgrass for example.

            Fair enough. 🙂

'Kinda ok', though? That's a very good rank at this stage of the season!

I was at a similar rank at this stage last season I think and managed to finish just over 8,000, so there's still hope for me I think. Although more people at the top may be wise to the chips this season, so who knows.

Thanks. 🙂 But its been a roller coaster up until now tho. Hopefully can keep up a decent rank for larger period of time, at least until DGWs.

I'm a non capper but would take a haul yes. I knew Ibra wouldn't be amazing but just felt he had a goal in him and with Sanchez at moment I felt could play out wide, could be tired and rotated etc so didn't want to risk it

    Eriksen, Hazard, Phillips, Sanchez
    Ibra, Defoe, Origi
Subs : Pickford, Brunt, Amat, Cook
    3.1 in the bank
Used the FT on Alonso to Baines.
Expecting Eve to do well against City. Lei to do well defensively vs Che.

I'm not going to get Augerio in.

    Reasons.

    1. Cost. He is not a guaranteed starter. That's too much money to be relying on a maybe.

    2. Personnel. City have signed another striker and Pep is likely to rotate.

    3. Alternatives. I've the armband on Zlatan the last few weeks and rotating Zlatan and Costa based on Fixtures is perfectly viable.

    4. Injury concern. Every season he is injured and misses time. This season it seems to be bans. This is not a sign of a settled player. He is obviously frustrated under Pep. I can't see him cementing a run in fixtures.

    Team currently;

    _______________Heaton_______________

    Baines Jones McAuley Azpil (Hoelebas)

    Sanchez Lallana Allen (Capoe, Flethcher)

    Ibra Costa Kane

This week I'm 47 from 6 with 5 to play.

Anichebe was my worst ever purchase.

Also, selling Morgan for his last two games for Jones.

Defoe best option - never had him in, wish I had but now gone 3-5-2

It appears the only two nailed 'cheap' strikers with penalties are Deeney and Gray. Wilson counts too but a continuing rotation risk.

P.S. Jonty - need to update the set pieces table to put Defoe ahead of Borini. As a temporary Borini owner, it hurt seeing Defoe on pens yesterday!

        Yes, sir.

Logic'd it out and pretty damn confident I can get out near to the max number of DGWers I want by whenever it is anyway.

yup, there is no point keeping the WC for DGWs if your team is bad and rank is going downhill. Wise move I'd say. I regretted not Wcing earlier last season despite have poor rank, at the end it was too much to make up.

Team isn't bad, but need a formation change and coupled with having a good period of time to think about moves, cup games in between where anything could happen, I thought I'd go for it. Come the DGWs, I anticipate having a team broadly similar to the 'template wildcard' team on here with a usual dose of differentials anyway. Easy enough to get there with FTs.

Thinking of having Ake and Daniels in for next wk

    Heaton
    Ake,Daniels,Walker
    Sanchez,Erikson,Lallana,Allen
    Defoe,Ibra(c),Costa

Subs-Jones(Liverpool),Capoue,Amat. Might switch Allen for Phillips but he has Tottenham away and Allen plays Sunderland.

Thinking of three moves to improve this team:

    Foster Jaku
    Alonso McAuley Mee Ake Amat
    Sanchez Hazard Eriksen Lallana DeRoon
    Ibra Costa Origi

    Hazard -> Alli/Cout/Walcott
    Mee -> Baines
    Origi -> Defoe

    What do you reckon?

Prefer Origi to Lukaku, Hazard to Phillips and then upgrade Mee or Amat (Amat is terrible)

Amat is a disgrace but he's just a placeholder at 4.0, never plays.

Same front Line as me and Im looking at same, downgrading Hazard to Alli or maybe Coutinho.
Hull(h) in 2 weeks could be a big haul for Hazard though. But cant see Origi starting again with coutinho back, Firminho be back up front.
