Sergio Aguero continues to create drama.

Today’s first act was an early afternoon bombshell from Manchester which sent shockwaves as Pep Guardiola’s teamsheet hit home.

Then, as the clock struck four, the second act followed: enter Aguero stage left to revive a ten-man City with a finish of sublime quality.

The full performance, spanning three hours, with Pep directing and Aguero as the dashing leading man, summed up our season so far with the Argentine.

It seems the days when Aguero settled in our squads and quietly went about the business of saving our Gameweeks are long gone.

Now the striker seems to insist on seeking the headlines and, just when we begin to settle on the idea of Aguero returning to his familiar groove, Pep intervenes with his own unpredictable flashes.

Some may have anticipated a benched Aguero against Burnley but I was certainly not among them.

Foolishly attempting to play “second guess Pep”, I presumed that he had earmarked the visit of the Clarets as an opportunity to ease Aguero back into goalscoring form.

Instead, according to his post-match comments, he looked to protect his striker from exertion following his unconvincing run-out at Anfield.

“He played 90 minutes after four games out and I did not consider him playing 90 minutes again after two days.”

That seems plausible but why start him on the bench rather than use him to get in front and then hook him early?

Match fitness is surely the issue, and, with a rest in the FA Cup tie next weekend on the cards, why not allow Aguero to regain that sharpness with a start?

Such questions and arguments fall on deaf ears: Pep doesn’t answer to me, other Fantasy managers and perhaps not even to the City fans. Judging by his post-match interview, he barely answers to journalists.

We know he plays by his own rules and that those rules are so often hideously difficult to decipher.

By the end of act two, Aguero had delivered. A seven point return isn’t perhaps a cause for celebration for the 135,000 who transferred him in, or indeed the 11% who gave him the armband. But it came as a huge relief given the reaction at 2pm.

However, do today’s events add to the doubts and concerns surrounding Peps approach to Aguero?

Given that City’s Champions League campaign will accelerate again in February and, by that time, they may even be cast adrift in the title race, will Pep’s attitude to Aguero’s pitch time hinder the striker’s potential further?

There is also another factor.

Gabriel Jesus is now a Manchester City player. A precocious talent, Pep has made it clear that he is about to become another option.

“Now Gabriel Jesus is coming so we will have of course three strikers who can sense a goal.”

This won’t help matters.

We had doubts already but Pep’s approach and teamsheet for Burnley’s visit to the Etihad, just day’s after losing ground following the defeat to Liverpool, has perhaps compounded matters.

Following two acts of ill-discipline, we’re not sure if we can trust Aguero. We’re also not sure if Pep can be trusted to get him on the pitch in the first place.

Aguero had the final say with another reminder of his brilliance. We know the quality he brings but are we willing to risk the hefty fee to buy into the circus that comes with it?

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Good article....and agreed.

I've been trying to say all week, that we all ,ight love Aguero but I'm not convinced Pep will share our views...in private anyway.

As with all good managers he will judge a player by how he performs from the day he takes charge both on and off the field. So far he's had a superstar whose let him down by spending seven weeks on the bench serving bans. Just as bad is the fact that his work rate off the ball really isn't what Pep wants....wha Pep wants is a Sanchez or Suarez with endless work rate when they don't have the ball as well as scoring goals (Gabriel Jesus offers that).

Aguero is a problem for Pep and for FPL.

If I were Arsenal I would be tapping Aguero up - he would smash it there:

      Walcott Ozil Sanchez
      Aguero

Agreed. I want to see more before investing. Think I'll go for one of Giroud/Defoe/Kaku and wait and see on Kun.
Also, Pep is a problem for FPL.

He is at the moment. We all know what sort of players Pep wants and he just doesn't have enough of those types.

Even KDB is gonna find himself in trouble soon if he carries on giving up the chase when not in possession....the very same reason Mourinho gave up on him. Pep demand his players are more in the mould of what Klopp is after at Liverpool...and that may, or more probably not, include a luxury striker who really isn't suited to that style of play.....even if he does score a lot of goals.

Gabriel Jesus is gonna be really interesting.

Pep fell out with Ibra while at Barca. Wouldn't surprise me if something like that happens with Kun.

Think he is going. Brunt should still be on set pieces even playing LB. So he'll probably still be involved, just maybe a bit less compared to MID.

Today was Ibrahimovic's 820th game in club football in 18 years. During this time, he has missed only 36 games due to injury.

Would not worry given the price difference at the moment. It is worse when you have two players who are close in price and one you want to buy is rising and the one you want to sell is falling (e.g. Eriksen to Lallana or Sigurdsson to Lallana a few weeks ago). Then you have to move early.

Problem is I have Zaha too lol. So I want to replace Zaha and Mane with Lallana and Walcott (if he's declared fit) which is almost an exact price swap. Not priced out of it right now, safe by 0.2, but could be different soon.

            Essentially something like:

            A) Origi and Mane --> Aguero and Stanislas(-4)

            B) Origi and Mane --> Lukaku and Coutinho(-4)

            C) Just transfer Mane out and play 4-4-2 next week with Origi benched...

So I may well make the Rough with the Smooth section of the scoutcast this week.. brought in Friend Phillips and Origi(c) for Valencia Caroll and De Roon (-4). Was sure Origi would start assuming someone would be rested after such a quick turnover..

That being said, Sturridge is now injured..does that nail on Origi as a starter? Is it worth holding for Swansea and Hull in the near future?
    Or
Origi > Barnes to save funds??

    Thanks.

I have to admit i was nervous when aguero came on & i have 1.9 ITB to do a straight swap for ibra but thinking about it now i should invest that money in my poor defence.
Having attack minded defenders like baines/alonso/brunt/daniels could realy pay off this season

I just don't quite think Aguero is necessary. Ibra scoring well right now, I'm going to hold a little while to see some more of how Aguero is used before moving on it

Yeah im keeping ibra. If he goes off the boil i'll look at kane.
There will be games when kun will that that hatrick & those who captain will feel great but i feel the extra 2.6 invested in defence & midfield can make up for that.

I'm hoping. Ibra + Kane for me right now

I'm counting on some positive Walcott news. Downgrading Hazard > Walcott allows me Carroll > Costa (with Kane and Ibra)

Do you think Giroud will continue to start?

My guess is him and Alexis will rotate depending on opposition.

What a goal though. One of the best ever.

Cheers! Go for Giroud or Walcott (3-5-2)?

Thoughts on Sigurdsson > Alli? Saving Rondon for his home fixtures

    Heaton
    Alonso / Brunt / Rose
    Sanchez / Lallana / Hazard / Phillips
    Ibra / Defoe / Rondon

    Bench: Pickford, Siggy, Francis, Amat

    Hey lads, moves here?

    Grant - Foster
    Azpi - Baines - Lovren - Amat - Holebas
    Sanchez - Haz - Eriksen - Lallana - Capoue
    Ibra - Origi - Rondon

1ft and 0.9 in the bank.

Thinking either Capoue or Holebas changes.

Origi an issue. Gray and Phillips could be options depending on what formation you fancy based on your budget

With Mane and Sturridge out, I don't see Origi not playing.

Yeh was looking at Gray or Stanislas. Stan has great fixtures after Arsenal.
