West Ham’s want-away Dimitri Payet is excluded from the squad to face Palace. Theo Walcott and Hector Bellerin look set to miss out as Arsenal travel to Swansea, while Chris Brunt will be assessed ahead of West Brom’s visit to Spurs.

Slaven Bilic has conceded that Dimitri Payet won’t be considered for selection after asking to leave West Ham in the winter transfer window. Michail Antonio is currently suffering from a virus but the Hammers boss remains hopeful he will return to training today ahead of a home match with Crystal Palace. James Collins is back in contention after recovering from a calf complaint.

Reports suggest that Hector Bellerin and Theo Walcott remain sidelined through ankle and calf problems respectively for Arsenal’s trip to Swansea, with the latter also expected to miss next week’s clash against Burnley. Mesut Ozil is back in contention, though, after recovering from illness.

Heurelho Gomes, Jose Holebas and Juan Camilo Zuniga are all available for Watford’s clash with Middlesbrough. Walter Mazzarri is hopeful on returns for Valon Behrami and Stefano Okaka, though Daryl Janmaat remains a big doubt and Isaac Success is still sidelined through injury.

Victor Valdes and Viktor Fischer are set to return for Middlesbrough’s clash with Watford, though Antonio Barragan and Gaston Ramirez are set to miss out.

Swansea’s Neil Taylor is ruled out for around three weeks with a fractured cheekbone sustained in training. New signing Luciano Narsingh is unavailable to face Arsenal due to a minor calf complaint.

Steven Davis will be assessed ahead of Southampton’s trip to Burnley, though Jordy Clasie has been passed fit after being withdrawn late on during the midweek cup win over Liverpool.

Erik Lamela remains sidelined for Spurs’ home match with West Brom due to an ongoing ankle complaint.

Jamie Vardy and Andy King have both recovered from illness and are available for Leicester’s clash with Chelsea. Leonardo Ulloa is almost certain to miss out due to a thigh problem, while Claudio Ranieri has confirmed that new signing Wilfred Ndidi could be in line for his league debut.

Stoke are without Jon Walters for the trip to Sunderland, with the Irishman set to undergo knee surgery. Bojan is a major doubt due to a hip problem as rumours of a move to Middlesbrough gather pace.

Chris Brunt will be assessed ahead of West Brom’s trip to Spurs after missing the FA Cup clash against Derby due to illness. Jonny Evans remains sidelined through injury, whilst the Baggies are still waiting for clearance on Allan Nyom, who has returned to the club after opting not to play for Cameroon in the Africa Cup of Nations.

Sam Allardyce is optimistic that Christian Benteke will recover from a shoulder problem in time for Palace’s trip to West Ham. James McArthur is expected to be available after returning to full training.

All this and more has now been updated in the Team News section ahead of tomorrow’s deadline. Keep an eye on our official Twitter Stream for breaking news – as the day unfolds, we will issue updates from Friday’s press conferences and refresh our Team News tab accordingly to keep you informed.

Going for a WC; have this team as a draft:

    Heaton | Foster

    Daniels Monreal Baines Chambers Love

    Sanchez Alli Pedro Stanislas Philips

    Ibra Costa Lukaku

    YAY OR NAY?

Monreal does offer a chance of three consecutive clean sheets.
Other options were VVD, Valencia and Rose.
I have 7.0m and Pedro has Hull and Lei. Will have to rotate funds for a better mid.

Would prefer Giroud over Lukaku on a wild card, seeing as you could move on to Lukaku in a few weeks and Giroud have superior fixtures as well as form atm.

I'm going to bring in Payet & Fonte, good idea?

They're not flagged, so can't be any doubt about their availability for selection?

I don't use any fantasy football forums, so not really in the loop, rely solely on FPL.

You can't start flagging players just because they're out of favour. Mourinho said Schweinsteiger wouldn't play, he wasn't flagged. It gets ridiculous.

For me, both Fonte and Payet are selection issues dependent on personal relationships between player and club/manager.

In the past, flags have been applied if the club publicly announces an official internal suspension or discipline that has them officially excluded from selection. In both these cases, this is not yet the case. It's been purely manager comment and, as far as I can see, his decision, just like every team selection is his decision.

Their lack of availability is down to internal relations with the club and trying to call and anticipate a change is those almost impossible without a reliable ITK source.

          Might change, though.

I think this has to change Mark, it is misleading when we all know they're canned but cannot be flagged.

Unless they post a pic of themselves getting a massage with a poorly face emoji.....I'm with you on this if slight niggles are flagged with a good chance they will play then a player should be flagged if they have been ruled out for personal reasons, it only has to be temporary but ppl deserve to know in the interests of fairness

Crosses the line slightly though - the flags represent player availability eg: is the player available to the manager if he wants to select them?

In both Payet and Fonte, they are available but, in both cases, neither manager wants to play them due to both players wanting away from the club and openly expressing that.

It's a very tricky one and, I know for a fact that, in the past, flags have only been applied for internal affairs like this if a player is officially suspended by the club - which has happened quite a few times.

        1. Ginola14
          • 14 Years
          9 years, 3 months ago

True they technically are fit and available, however when a manager publicly states they won't play this has to be taken into consideration, it's not like it's a gossip rumour from a mate who cleans the kit, plus they are hardly going to lose face by going back on their word and picking them, and if they did then it's no different to the Alonso non injury last week

Agree it's tricky, I'm just giving you what I believe is the consistent route taken in this situation. Once flags are applied purely on selection issues, it's a bit of a can of worms. If a red flag is applied and Fonte/Payet publicaly apologises overnight, what then?

ISM may change their stance on it, though, in this case should they be receiving support emails etc.

            1. Ginola14
              • 14 Years
              9 years, 3 months ago

As with other flags they are applied based on reliable info, not sure how more reliable you can get coming from the manager himself, the fantasy player can then make an informed choice whether to bring them in or transfer out

I'm not doubting the information, I just doubting whether the flags should reflect selection rather than availability information. It's a grey area. Like I say, ISM may change their stance on it but I believe in the past the current non flag is consistent when no official club suspension has been announced.

WIth Giroud and Sanchez playing Arsenal have more chance of scoring your talking like they are a one scoring player team away from home.. can you name another player at Arsenal that is likely to score away fro the Emirates with no Walcot

There are a range of possibilities on the road- including the home team showing up strong. So is it possible that Arsenal only scores one or two goals- yes- and if that is the case- the highest probability of scoring goes with Sanchez; but Gru is in good form- a matter of risk/reward here

Not the match day squad, but like the club squad or whatever they call it?

    A. Hazard to Sanchez now for a hit
    B. Hazard to Sanchez in 2 game weeks after Chelsea's Hull/Leicester games

Sanchez is best player in the game, but it seems a bit crazy to take Hazard out now before his good fixtures. Particularly as he'll be a good captain differential against Hull.

    Thoughts?

Depends on whether you have Costa - because then I wouldn't captain Haz even in the Hull game

This* Costa is the main Chelsea man. Haz is overpriced

    Option A:
    Grant + Chambers

    Option B:
    Valdes +Pieters

Option B is more expensive by 0.2 and with that I can go for Ibra + Ozil instead of Aguero + Coutino

Both goalkeepers with high save potential but Pieters a bit more likely to get attacking points. Not much between them, so go with the cheapest one if you don't have any clear favourite

Stoke are not on good fixtures after this week

I have gone Valdes+Chambers. As mentioned already Stoke have pretty bad fixtures short-mid term (only gets really tasty from gw 30-36). If you go Grant you will have to do with mostly save-points, while when their fixtures turn great Butland might be back. Valdes on the other hand will remain Middlesbrough nr1. goalie all season and their fixtures are very decent until GW33.

Pieters has got a tiny bit more attacking threat and 3 yellows in 19, Chambers got 4 in 15 so again, a tiny difference but if you don't want to double up i'd go Valdes+Pieters. Ibra+Ozil only looks better short term because Arsenals fixtures are way better then Pools, long term i'd prefer Kün+Coutinho

Anyone with a good guess on how long Bellerin is out for? FPL says next week but an ankle injury doesn't sound good

    afternoon, chaps

    Heaton
    Alonso - Coleman - A. Smith
    Walcott (injured) - Phillips - San(c)hez - Eriksen - Allen
    Costa - Ibra
    Subs: Foster, Diomande, Evans, Tymon

    ITB: 1.8m

    Any suggestions?

I was thinking taking Walcott out given he isn't back till end Jan-early Feb.

    Who to cap?
    My order right now:
    1. Giroud
    2. Ibra
    3. Eriksen
    4. Sanchez
    5. Alli

    1. and 2. on pens.
    1. and 4. Vs leaky swans but away game.
    2, 3, 5 home games
    All in form.
Ibra involved in most ManU goals.
Eriksen on set pieces with Alli, Toby or Kane to finish.
Alli plays as second striker and with Olsson and Galloway in WBA def, they are far less solid.

    Help!
    Cheers

Is Wanyama (4.2) a good option for the next few games?
Fonte is "frozen out" and could be leaving in the January transfer window.
Risk is that Southampton may buy a replacement. Otherwise, Wanyama will have a good run of games.

    Good afternoon Gents...

    Who should I sub out?

    Forster
    Ake, Alonso, Daniels
    Antonio, Pedro, Alli, Ramsey
    Costa, Kun, Barnes

    Current useful subs:
    Baines, Lallana

  25. McQueen

    Anichebe out.

    How's the team looking?

    Grant, (Jak)
    Ake, Bertrand, Cedric, Friend, (**Bellerin)
    Sanchez, Hazard, Alli, Stanislas, (Philips)
    Costa, *Ibra, (**Anichebe)

    A) Bertrand to Baines (-4)
    B) Ake to Brunt (-4)
    C) Both (-8)
    D) Neither: risk having just 1 or 2 defs this week

I'm looking to do these changes in the next couple weeks anyway

    Baines, Brunt, Chambers (Muniesa, Yoshida)
    Sanzhez, Eriksen, Phillips, Stanislas (Cabaye)

    1) Boruc to Mignolet?
    2) Sanchez and Costa to Aguerro and Ozil?

Is it worth getting an Arsenal defender, for their run of good games?
Thinking of Cech (5.4), but defensive shuffling caused by Bellerin injury is making me hold off.
