Romelu Lukaku and Kevin Mirallas get amongst the goals as Everton dismantle Manchester City to leap onto our Fantasy radars ahead of a kind upcoming schedule. As Sergio Aguero’s stock continues to plummet under Pep Guardiola, Manchester United’s Zlatan Ibrahimovic leaves it late but delivers yet again as Jose Mourinho’s men earn a draw with Liverpool. Here’s the Stock Check following Sunday’s pair of encounters…

On The Rise

Romelu Lukaku
It’s five goals and an assist in the last seven Gameweeks for the Everton forward who seems to have rediscovered a degree of consistency ahead of some very favourable fixtures.

With injury concerns surrounding Diego Costa and Olivier Giroud for our three-man frontlines, Lukaku strengthened his case for inclusion by firing the opener at home to City in today’s early encounter at Goodison Park.

Owned by over 24% of Fantasy Premier League managers, the Toffees frontman is looking difficult to ignore at a price of 9.5 right now.

Over 14,000 FPL managers have already snapped him up since yesterday’s deadline as the Merseysiders prepare to face Crystal Palace, Stoke, Bournemouth, Middlesbrough and Sunderland in the upcoming five Gameweeks.

Kevin Mirallas, Ross Barkley
The Everton midfield pair have also upped their output in recent weeks.

An assist for Lukaku’s effort, followed by an early second-half strike, means Mirallas now has two goals and a pair assists in the last four matches. Given that he had failed to produce any attacking points between Gameweek 5-17, it’s something of an understatement to say that this comes as a major improvement.

Sitting in a mere 1.8% of FPL squads, the Belgian has dropped from a starting price of 6.5 to 6.0 this season.

Having now started four successive matches under Ronald Koeman, Mirallas looks to have finally established himself as a regular and is shaping up to be an enticing differential ahead of those aforementioned fixtures.

Barkley’s pair of assists means he has now supplied a goal and four assists in the last six Gameweeks, compared with two goals and a single assist in the opening 15 rounds of matches.

Similar to Mirallas, he’s dropped 0.5 in price (from 7.5 to 7.0) since the start of the campaign and, with an ownership less than 6%, he is now another differential to consider.

Joel Robles
The Spaniard seems to be something of a lucky charm for Everton between the posts.

The Merseysiders have now produced four clean sheets in the five league matches that Robles has started this term, compared with three shutouts over the 16 fixtures with Maarten Stekelenburg in the first XI.

Priced at 4.7 and boasting a mere 0.3% ownership, Robles looks to have barged his way past the Dutchman in Koeman’s plans and that Everton schedule may well turn a few heads for those currently eyeing up an early wildcard.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic
The veteran United strike came to the rescue yet again to maintain his stunning recent form with a late leveller against Liverpool.

Now top in the FPL forward rankings and second only to Alexis Sanchez overall, Ibrahimovic’s strike means he has scored or assisted in nine of his last 10 league outings.

With trips to Hull City and Leicester City, allied with home clashes against Hull City, Watford and Bournemouth in the next six Gameweeks, it’s difficult to look beyond the Swede as the one “must have” option up front. His consistency continues to rack up the points at a time when other big-hitters have faltered.

James Milner
The Liverpool man continues to profit from penalty duties, with today’s strike at Old Trafford marking his sixth of the season.

Put into perspective, only one other player – Sunderland’s Jermain Defoe, with five – has converted more than three spot-kicks in 2016/17.

Jurgen Klopp’s decision to utilise Milner as a left-back has understandably deterred most from investing, given that he’s listed as a midfielder in FPL.

The 4%-owned summer signing from City is now up to second in terms of value behind Adam Lallana in the Liverpool midfield and has climbed above Philippe Coutinho for overall points.

If, as expected, he’s reclassified as a defender in FPL next season, Milner may well be one of the first names in our pre-season squads should Klopp opt against bringing in another left-back.

In Decline

Sergio Aguero
Today’s failure at Goodison means that the City striker has notched just once in his last four league appearances.

Given that he also missed four of the last eight Gameweeks due to suspension, Aguero’s standing as “essential” for our starting XIs has all but vanished this season.

With just a single attempt on target against the Toffees, the Argentine shows no sign of shedding the inconsistency that continues to blight his displays under Pep Guardiola.

Having recently lost spot-kick duties to Yaya Toure, Aguero’s appeal is on the wane again as City now prepare to host an in-form Tottenham.

Whereas Harry Kane has earned in excess of 52,000 new owners prior to their head-to-head, only 3,000+ have taken the plunge on the out-of-sorts South American, with over 6,000 choosing to show him the exit door instead.

Daniel Sturridge
There was no real surprise to see the Liverpool striker named amongst the substitutes after an insipid midweek showing at Southampton in the EFL Cup.

Klopp instead opted for Divock Origi to lead the line at Old Trafford before the introduction of fit-again Philippe Coutinho saw Roberto Firmino shift back into a “false nine” role for the remaining half hour.

Despite the absence of Sadio Mane, Sturridge ultimately warmed the bench from start to finish, and after a brief run of two successive starts in all competitions, he looks to have quickly tumbled back down the pecking order once again.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Take too many hits and your ceiling rank moves down.

I've taken 52pts by my reckoning...if that climbed to 100pts, probably forced myself out of the top 10K

I am a glaring example of this. Every season, I take what amount to too many risks/punts/hits. Guess I'm stuck in some kind of Maverick wannabe mode and I get a kick from it. I know if I just cooled it, picked a good core of guys and went with it, I'd have much better ranks. As I always say, I'll do that next year. Lol. They do pay off a lot of times as well, however. But ya gotta know when to say when. Learn from me all you youngsters out there!

I do think playing the hit game requires restraint for it to work. It is fun to go on a good run with hits when teams have good fixtures and form, but then it also becomes harder to resist a hit when things are not going your way. Every hit is justified with it being long term, only to conveniently forget that you may in fact be taking a hit to remove someone whom you brought in for a hit.

I feel the most underrated hit is the long term hit for a defender. I just don't take any on them and they have held me back this season. The largest variance in points is actually in defense (well for my team anyway) as opposed to attacking points. A great defender can get 18 points in 2 weeks whereas a crap one like Smith will get you 0. Worth giving away 4 to get those extra 14.

Ok, so what are the main reasons for hits?
        For me:
Team value (in the first half of the season)
        Injuries
You can play form AND fixtures every week
        It's fun

Since then, 28pts hits (all since GW10).
None in the last 3 weeks.
Just gone up to highest OR of 3.1k.
It's not how many, it's who, and more importantly - when.

88 points in hits here, 399 OR - never been afraid of a hit or two, particularly to build value early season.

I'll probably ease up on the hits now though, I have a -4 planned this week but other than that, hoping to be hit free for a while, barring injuries.

Would like to have a couple of FTs in the bag for when DGWs come around.

Hits that pay off over a few gameweeks are never a bad idea, if they pay off instantly it's even better! 🙂

Normally I take a lot of hits early/mid season and/or do an early wildcard when the early pace setters become obvious, building the team value for late season - the early 0.1s really pay off after 20 or so GW if you jump on the right bandwagons.

The idea being that with team value built I can chill out on the hits in the 2nd half of the season and climb places slowly with the side I've built in the 1st half.

That's the plan every year anyway, admittedly doing a bit better this year than it has done in the past... we'll see! 🙂

Same here - its works. 2nd half of season you can regain 150 pts on your rivals with the better TV. Granted this year budget players doing better and so the extra TV not in affect / need yet.

Personally I only take hits for players who have great long term fixtures, are on for double or triple rises (at start of season) and for players who I would categorise as season keepers, eg Sanchez, Ibra etc I guess a lot of others would follow this sort of thing also

I'm definitely one who is afraid of hits, but that is mainly because, to me, it is an indication of my previous decisions missing the mark.

I'm happiest (like this week) when my team is already in a good place and I have the luxury of using just 1 of my 2 transfers to tweak a player because I'm happy with the rest.

A few weeks ago I was scrabbling to get the form players in a week too late, taking some hits and I didn't like it.

Happiness and fun come to people in different ways.

I don't really think that you can say hits are generally good or bad. I have taken as many hits that worked out as hits that didn't work out. But yea, don't try to avoid taking them, just see how your team looks atm, and if you feel like the hit is necessary, do it

When you look like the guys who are consistently achieving top ranks (Ville Ronke for example. Even Mark and Jonty), they usually minimize taking hits. Taking hits might work for some in a given season or even for a shorter time but in it unsustainable. You won't find the hit crazy ones in the top5k-10k year in year out.

I have taken pretty same amount of hits and sit at 74k atm (44 transfers made). My team looks great. Strong bench and 104 (-8) last round and 5 green arrows streak in last rounds. Qualified for the cup round 22. TV: 105,4 but sell value 103,2 as I cashed on Capoue or Costa in right time.

        Exactly.
        1. If you're confident over 2-3 weeks your purchased player will outscore your previous one by 4 or more, it's a no-brainer.
        2. People say "I took a -8 for player X". No, you took a -4 for player X, and another -4 for player Y. Don't put the -8 on one player!

36 points worth of hits, ~100k OR.

I did 7 our of 9 of those hits in gameweeks 10-15 over which time I plummeted from 100k to 550k OR. Only taken one hit since then which was forced to field 11 and have managed to climb back up. I'm done with hits unless necessary now 😀

I take hits too, and calculated more points earned doing so. Granted taken almost 200 pts in hits but definitely earned same or more in return - I now also have a team value of 109 million and all the leverage in team ownership. 2nd half of season will tighten the hit takes now that I have a super team. Will definitely take hits for DGW though, cause what you spend you earn more with them.

I think number of hits is irrelevant, purely depends on the opportunity cost and whether it paid off.

I've had good and bad weeks with hits.

52 so far, and top 2k. Don't think i'd have managed that without the hits.

There's more than one way to skin a cat. At least it shows that -4 points for a hit looks fair as everyone seems to be on a level playing field.

Where do City go from here ?...Will they have to refresh with Gabriel Jesus....and soon

Today's defeat was coming for a while....even as far back as when Hull outplayed them for half a game.

Jesus won't come in and save them. The likes of kdb, aguero, silva need to step up to the plate.

            Might not be able to.

Aguero seems unhappy and being played all over the place.
            KDB is quite inconsistent.
Silva's age is beginning to catch him I fear. Like Aguero, he needs to play in a structured, defined role, not the jumble he currently is in.

I agree, apart from kdb being inconsistent. Just saying they are the superstars and they aren't performing. If they are going to challenge for honours this season it's on them to make it happen. Not a talented kid flown in from brazil. His time will come to carry big teams.

You might find KDB bewildering if you delve further in. I've seen him attempt a simple 5 yard pass and manage to give it to the opposition on so many occasions. Then he'll hit an absolute worldie pass out of nowhere.

Some games he's unplayable, others I don't notice he's playing.

I do agree that Gabriel can't be seen as the saviour, though he is very much so a Pep type of player with some incredible talent. That ageing backline needs some attention, though.

Aguero is an out and out striker. He's actually a bit rubbish at closing down and all that donkey work....in fact completely rubbish.

I agree. Square peg in a round hole and it's been obvious for a whole.

Even if he scores six goals in his next four he'll still be the wrong player for Pep.

Exactly! While I don't usually condone allowing a player get away with shirking the grunt work, there are exceptions. He is one. Zlatan is another (though he does drop deeper to try and make things happen). As soon as United started to shift and play more to suit Ibra, United improved.

Star players are star players, the best managers identify them as well as the supporting crew and gets them to meld together effortlessly. Pep at the moment seems to be trying to make stars out of supporting players and supporting players out of stars. It's all a bit mad.

Thing is, whilst i understand Pep has a desired way he wishes his team to play, it should be painfully obvious that Aguero isn't any good at it and is wasted doing so. Adapting to the circumstances seems to be something Pep is thus far very poor at.

Indeed... If you look at the numbers, Baines has better form and PPG than Rose, it's just that I trust Spurs a lot more to get clean sheets.... But then again I believe Baines will get more attacking points 'cause he has pens in his locker... I'm leaning towards Baines though because of that looming two game suspension and the fact that I can get better mids with Baines...

I wouldn't wildcard. with money in the bank already id rather take a -8 to switch Wilson and 2 defenders assuming giroud is fit

Sorry for ruining it for everyone but Kane is back in my team. Sold him GW 18 so now he is likely to hit a cold streak.

See Holgate due to rise, must be plenty confident of future starts, Ake to Holgate safe enough or is it tempting fate?

Would only be on my bench but with Amat my other bench defender I think I need more security, cheers WR

Even if Costa does stick around. There's a good possibility this issue is going to run on another week or so. I would say unlikely to play v Hull either way.

                Does anyone think different?
