A day for differentials.

Liverpool’s Roberto Firmino and West Bromwich Albion’s Gareth McAuley are the only two players with more than 10% ownership to hit double-digits.

Firmino was teetering on the edge prior to the today’s deadline – owned by just over 456,000 FPL managers or 10.6% – the Brazilian had shed 340,000 since Gameweek 16.

Such losses are understandable, sparked by a dismal run of paltry returns. A single goal over ten barren Gameweeks – his strike in a 4-1 victory over Stoke City – did little to stem a tide of rejection. With Sadio Mane and Adam Lallana thriving, Firmino owners were switching allegiance or looking elsewhere as rival heavy-hitters delivered.

Today’s 14-points will reverse matters, for now at least. That fifth double-figure haul for Firmino ironically arrived on a day that saw Philippe Coutinho make a return to the Liverpool starting line-up. Withdrawn on 65 minutes, his comeback was curtailed as he gave way to allow his compatriot to take centre-stage.

While his two goals were not enough to save Liverpool from defeat, Firmino’s own Fantasy stock is revived, just as thousands were making or considering the move for his Brazilian team-mate.

But Coutinho’s early withdrawal has already proved enough to give some early adopters the jitters. Meanwhile, after suffering a third successive blank, Lallana has now returned just a single goal and an assist in six starts.

Based on early transfer activity, both are facing ownership losses over the extended gap to Gameweek 23, with this shifting affection from one Liverpool asset to another typical of behaviour this season.

Two prolonged spells of form from Coutinho’s and Lallana have come close to resolving the argument but, in truth, we look unlikely to ever settle on one of Klopp’s midfield as a dependable “solution”.

Perhaps the key question should be whether we should overlook them altogether.

Two draws and a defeat has stalled the Liverpool title bid, while over the last four Gameweeks, their attacking numbers are settled in mid-table. They face Chelsea next.

Sadio Mane’s absence appears to be a key factor and, arguably, until his return, we should reserve judgement, regardless of Firmino’s flurry.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Hi guys!

    Despite KdB being in the points today, seems it was luck rather than form, right? Thinking I get rid of him for Eriksen to give me;

    Randolph / Jaku
    Alonso Jones Brunt / Pieters
Sanchez Alli Eriksen Antonio / Fletcher
    Ibra Giroud Rondon
    3.2itb

Is that the right move? Or just bank ft? Figure I need at least 2 spurs to keep up with everyone else 🙂

    Thanks!

He could have had a couple of other assists though. If Pep keeps a similar line up then KDB will be in the points consistently

It's the same every match with KdB, great player. But I just think he always flatters to deceive FPL wise - seems like I just got lucky with the 13 this weekend!

Hence why I'm thinking Eriksen now to keep up with ML rivals who have Alli + 1

Here is my team with 2FT & only 0.1 ITB

    Foster (Grant)
    Alonso, Jones, Gabriel, Walker (VVD)
    Hazard, Erikson, Phillips (Capoue, Allen)
    Ibra, Kane, Benteke

Need to sort out mids....and Benteke....also Gabriel not assured now

    Thoughts?

I'll lose a transfer in that case

Thinking Benteke > Crouch (but now Berahino there) & VVD > Holgate (is he nailed, Baines keeps staring at me)

Then good funds for Allen to someone strong

        Or play 5,3,2

    Hi lads,

    2 questions?

    1. Early thoughts on Daniels and Amat to Brunt and Yoshida for free?

    2. What's everyone doing with Kun?

    1. F4L
      • 11 Years

wouldn't want Yoshida tbh, probably would take Holgate over him. Aguero is worth keeping imo, especially with those upcoming fixtures

    Is playing 5-3-2 crazy?
Have Alonso, Baines, Bellerin, Walker atm. By downgrading Hazard to Alli (alongside Erik and Sanchez) I'd have enough to also get another c£6m defender for Evans and keep Ibra and Costa up front.

With all the 343s being played in real life meaning there are wing backs, maybe not if your player selection is good

      No not atall.
I've got Alonso, Azpi, Walker, Coleman and Bellerin and loving it!
I think wing backs for the good teams are the most consistent point scorers this year. Do you think they're the new thing or is it just this season?

Yeah I have. I feel their the most consistent points returns. I am rotating Defoe and Llorente which is working out ok for me. I'm thinking of downgrading Phillips of Stanislas to bench fodder and then upgrading the other one for firmino or upgrading Lallana to Mané when he comes back.

Good point. Seems a viable tactic. How have you found your captain choices. Without someone like Sanchez in midfield have you felt restricted to putting it on Kane most weeks? Think the move you mentioned there would be good too, pool mid & bench fodder

Yeah I'm sticking with Kane. He's a premium striker in good form, I should keep the faith. Although I do sometimes fancy switching to Alli!

I have played 4,3,3 all season and and seriously considering 5,3,2 myself.
Only things that keeps nagging at me is FFS Podcast and the point about % of points coming from midfield

But the point about wing backs is good too (Walker, Alonso, Baines etc) and then this emphasizes the point further about goals now being worth 6 instead of 5

    Kane Ibra (Defoe)

How risky would a Tom Davies and Lanzini in for stanislas and Fraser move be -8, would then bench Phillips vs Middlesborough as I think he will blank with a 3 pointer, have a terrible rank due to poor captain picks so need to take risks to catch up, none of my ml rivals have them on the plus side.
