Pinpointing the Premier League’s latest whipping boys proved key to captaincy success in Gameweek 24, with Romelu Lukaku (9.7) scoring four in Everton’s 6-3 rout of Bournemouth at Goodison Park.

That scoreline means that the Cherries have shipped 16 goals in their last five matches and should ensure that players from their next opponents, Manchester City, fare well in this week Captain poll.

Given his brace against Swansea at the weekend – bringing his tally to three goals in just two Premier League starts – City starlet Gabriel Jesus (9.2) is likely to be a frontrunner ahead of Monday’s Vitality Stadium clash.

In terms of frequency of goal attempts in the box, he is now faster than team-mate Sergio Aguero (12.8), who found himself on the bench for a second successive match against the Swans.

While the Samba star has gathered more than 88,000 new FPL managers since Saturday, 38,000 have jettisoned the Argentine.

City midfielders Kevin De Bruyne (10.6) and Raheem Sterling (7.8) could also benefit from Aguero’s plummeting stock. The Belgian schemer now has two goals and an assist in his last three, while the England winger has been the master of creative consistency, recording eight assists in his last nine.

Leicester City’s fragile backline is another worth targeting when considering where to place the armband. Manchester United’s comfortable 3-0 win over the Foxes at the King Power Stadium on Sunday means that Claudio Ranieri’s defence have conceded 10 over their last four

Next up for the Italian’s hapless rearguard is a trip to Swansea City, which promotes the Welsh side’s set piece specialist Gylfi Sigurdsson (7.4) as a strong differential captaincy option. The 8.2% owned Icelander now has three goals and a pair of assists under new manager Paul Clement, as well as three double-digit hauls at the Liberty Stadium.

Another alternative armband candidate is Sunderland’s Jermain Defoe (7.8), who scored a brace away to Crystal Palace at the weekend. The 27.8% owned veteran next faces a home tie against a Southampton side that has shipped 11 goals in their last six matches, with just one shutout earned over that spell.

Following their successful day out at Leicester, Manchester United once again face a favourable defence, when Watford drop by Old Trafford on Saturday.

The Hornets have just two clean sheets and have conceded 22 times on the on the road, which presents Zlatan Ibrahimovic (11.6) with a golden opportunity to top this week’s poll. The Swede’s strike against the Foxes was his 15th of the season, and he has been the FPL most popular captain pick for seven successive Gameweeks.

Alternative United assets include Henrikh Mkhitaryan (8.8), who racked up a 14 point return on Sunday, his biggest of the campaign, thanks to a goal, assist and maximum bonus returns.

Before Marco Silva took charge of Hull City, their trip to Arsenal this weekend would have cemented Alexis Sanchez (11.8)’s captaincy credentials. But in his four league matches in charge, the Portuguese has seemingly transformed the Tigers.

Over that period, Silva’s side have defeated Liverpool and Bournemouth, kept Manchester United at bay in a 0-0 draw at Old Trafford and proved a stubborn opponent to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, where they eventually lost 2-0.

Although the 35.8% owned Sanchez, who has 10 attacking returns in his last 12, is likely to be a popular selection, the considerable improvement from his Gameweek opponents could see him miss out on top spot.

Last week’s captaincy poster boy Lukaku could suffer the same fate: he is unlikely to find the Middlesbrough defence as obliging as the Cherries when Everton visit the Riverside Stadium next weekend. Aitor Karanka’s troops have conceded 14 goals in 12 home matches, earning four clean sheets.

The Captain Poll is now live in the middle column on your homepage on desktop, or via the slide-in menu on mobile and tablet under recent comments.

We will be back to check in on progress in the poll later ahead of this week’s deadline when we deliver our “Captain Sensible” article offering an analysis of the results and the statistics behind the leading contenders.

Any recommendations for taking out Redmond 5.8 with 2.1 ITB

    £7.9 MIL to spend

    Could go with
    > Walcott
    > Sigurdsson
    > Sterling
    > Pedro

    Any other ideas?

Siggy captain for me this week.

Ibra the other option but with Swansea on form and Leicester awful, especially away from home and also having a midweek game I think it's worth the punt.

maybe, he does look a good option.I also like the look of Alonso

Alonso could be great but a massive punt. Giroud proved that even with a goal a defender can easily lose a big haul in a flash even against the run of play. It wouldn't surprise me to see Burnley score at all to be honest.

Very tight call between the two here. I'll have to see what the week brings, a lot of calls from pundits etc. for the Leicester players to get their act together. Maybe they won't roll over for Swansea?

Flip side, Watford held a pretty tight ship against Arsenal recently, so maybe they'll try and stifle Ibra.

There is always good old Defoe...

Rest of the team? If you don't have a GK for 28 I'd maybe look at getting in Jaku.

Fair enough. Still a bit risky imo. One thing is no Spurs cover but you'll also be heavily relying on Spurs to progress in the cup. That's not a given considering they have EL games either side of the cup game and not the strongest depth in their squad. For all we now all the big boys get rested in the cup game and then you're in deep trouble regarding GW28.

This Siggy thing and before that the Payet thing from last season is making me wonder if FFS is home to a hive mind, it's very Borg collective. Don't get me wrong I want him in but not sure I'd sacrifice a top player such as Sanchez or Erik for him.. Am I mad? probably

Siggy has shown that he can go on a dry patch. But he is a consistent scorer, and has managed to improve under his new manager and has great fixtures

Just don't know if I could ship either one of Sanchez or Erik for him. Have Ibra that could come in handy if shipped him out then got rid of Mirallas but Chelsea home might as well be a blank, well near enough. Burnley home is good then Hull away tricky. Then I look at Ibra who has Watford home blank then Bournemouth home. Then Erik if I were to ship him this week for Sig, he has Stoke and Everton at home after Pool, could be goals there. It looks very 50/50 to me

Sanches has BLANK - liverpool - BLANK in three gameweeks. He also looks exasperated with his team mates these days. He is playing well though and I got him at 10.9 so I will bench, but I can see why people want to ship him.

I think getting him in this week is one of the best moves available.

Him and his team are on form, good fixture, doesn't have blanks. All this together mean he is a great purchase moving forward.

Eriksen isn't premium. I'm looking at a big fish in a small pond with Siggy as opposed to a big fish in a big pond.

Eriksen has been great over the fixtures that Spurs have had but has dried up recently, never been a great fantasy option in the past so am considering getting rid

Yeah he is like that as a player Erik. Normally starts very slowly in a season then has a purple patch, which he had. And perhaps he is off that now, OK I'm convinced. 😀

And posts like this are making me wonder if some people here even watch PL games.
Siggy is by far the better player than Eriksen.
Actually, calling Eriksen a 'top player' should be a bannable offense.

    Foster, Valdes
    Coleman, Luiz, Pieters, Friend, Cedric
    Sanchez, Antonio, Alli, Stanislas, Fletcher
    Ibra, Kane, Rondon

    2 FTs and 1.7 ITB.

Stanislas + Kane ➡ Siggy + Lukaku are the obvious moves.

Should I pull the trigger or are there any more pressing issues with the team above?

    Sanchez - Pogba - Eriksen - Phillips

Heaton - Jones - De Roon - Nyom

As a Costa owner (since GW3), I gotta say, he's not all that great a pick.

    What would u do here..
    1. Who would you bench?
    2. Any transfers you would make? Siggy in for Eriksen (8.3m) is an option.

    Heaton.
    Alonso, Walker, Funes Mori, Brunt,
    Eriksen, Sanchez (c), Snodgrass, Phillips,
    Ibra (vc), Kane, Lukaku.

    Pickford, _____ Whelan, Amat.

That'd be ideal, like you said funds. All subs are just cheap so may be worth just sorting subs out and holding to see how Ibra plays this week ?

I would be concerned with all that cash tied up in cech, who has two incoming blanks. Arsenal aren't sheeting and Randolph, Jaku, Grant a million quid cheaper. I'd be looking at cheap keeper rotation (2nd keeper not published) and holding one transfer over
