Harry Kane’s unstoppable path to another Golden Boot. Leicester City’s return from the dead and how our fate could depend on this season’s arch-villains. Here’s our three-point farewell to Gameweek 26.

The Player

We may well be fretting on the configuration of our forward lines for Gameweeks 27 and 28 but, once those choppy waters are cleared, many will turn to focus attention on one specific target – Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane.

A clinical and emphatic hat-trick against a sun-baked and shell-shocked Stoke City epitomised a striker brimming with confidence.

The current Golden Boot holder, Kane now sits level with Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez on 17 goals in the quest for this season’s accolade. The smart money will be on Kane gaining a second successive gong.

While we can also marvel on the achievements of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Diego Costa as options for our attack, neither appear to be able to match Kane’s explosive potential as a Fantasy asset. Meanwhile, Lukaku may boast two Premier League hat-tricks, but the Spurs striker is perhaps more trusted as a consistent source of points.

His record certainly offers reassurance: Kane has now scored 31 goals in 53 Premier League appearances at White Hart Lane, with 33 in 54 on the road. A provider of points home and away, Kane has been involved in 48.8% of Spurs’ goals when on the pitch this term, compared to 38% last season.

Mauricio Pochettino’s perseverance with a 3-4-2-1 setup looks to be integral to Spurs’ attacking output – Kane mustered just four shots in four matches with the team deployed in a 4-2-3-1.

However, if his manager keeps faith with those tactics following Sunday’s blitz of the Potters, Kane will surely continue to prosper over what looks to be an immensely favourable run-in.

Spurs avoid all of the current top six away from home, with White Hart Lane encounters with Arsenal and Manchester United their sternest remaining tests.

Fantasy managers should have few qualms on backing Kane in those ties and over the remaining fixtures.

Sanchez, Lukaku and the chasing pack may well struggle to stop Kane’s progress to a second successive Golden Boot, while surely only the brave will look beyond the Spurs striker from this point on.

The Team

We’ve almost become resigned to the fact that Leicester City are dead to us as a source of Fantasy talent this season.

But Monday’s shocking rejuvenation under caretaker boss Craig Shakespeare offers an obvious need to reassess matters.

Jamie Vardy’s performance, in particular, was difficult to take in.

Seemingly transformed, the striker’s work-rate and pace was visibly scaled up to the level of last season. His finishing ability improved with it – Vardy took both his chances with aplomb, killing any suggestion that confidence remains an issue.

Riyad Mahrez failed to reach such heights.

He caused Liverpool problems without really rekindling the mesmeric form of the title-winning campaign. But, should the Foxes build on Monday’s performance, there can be no question that the Algerian has the talent to be a factor from here on.

Meanwhile, Christian Fuchs demonstrated his qualities. A powerful yet cultured force from left-back, his unerring delivery for Vardy’s second goal provided a reminder that this is a defensive asset who can produce when allowed to bomb forward. When fixtures fall in his lap, Fuchs could yet be an effective short-term differential.

Indeed, Leicester have the platform to end the season with a flourish. Over the next six Gameweeks, Hull City, Stoke City and Sunderland visit the King Power Stadium, with Spurs the only remaining big test to come at home.

The recovery could be complete by then if Monday’s display is a sign of things to come.

We should stick to a watching brief, monitoring the Gameweek 27 performance against Hull for further signs of progress. But at least now, the Foxes have a heartbeat.

The Talking Point

Written before tonight’s all-important FA Cup replay, we’re perhaps on safe ground to assume that Manchester City will progress past Huddersfield to contest an FA Cup Quarter Final and, in doing so, schedule their double Gameweek 27 with Sunderland and Stoke City.

That will ignite further chatter on Sergio Aguero, not only as a short-term investment but as a potential target for our treasured Triple Captain chip.

Last night’s ScoutCast debated this at length, but the discussion will inevitably rumble on until Saturday’s deadline.

There are just so many factors at play, not least our trust in an asset that has proved uncharacteristically volatile, at the mercy of a manager who has proved to be the most unpredictable of this and, arguably, any season.

But should Aguero be blessed with two Gameweek 27 fixtures, we at least have some facts at our disposal.

City will play twice. They are in strong form and have confidence. They will go out to win both matches and, with their defensive frailties, they will have to target several goals in each match to achieve that objective. Aguero has the potential to play in both fixtures and score those goals.

Those are the facts.

Compare that to the uncertainty surrounding our other Triple Captain candidates.

As it stands, we have very little idea on the make-up of the remaining double Gameweeks. We have no way of anticipating the fitness and mindset of those assets, or the form that either they or their teams will be in at the time.

We may not be mentally prepared to throw down our chip, but we may just miss the most obvious opportunity to exploit it should we sit still.

It’s a delicious conundrum; there could be a major windfall of points at stake and, having played the villains for the majority of this season, Guardiola and Aguero are at the centre of it.

Quick poll. From a fantasy point of view would you prefer it if City won or lost tonight?

For me I'd prefer a loss. I'd still get in Kun and sterling but with only 7 playing in gw 28 it would give me nice coverage there to keep things ticking. A loss and I'd probably captain Zlatan ahead of kun in gw 27 (despite kun playing Sunderland)

If City lose I won't get any City assets, id roll the transfer, play Costa and Alli this week instead of Kun and Sterling whilst giving Ibra the armband. Would make things more straight forward but a lot less interesting.

I have Jakupovic, Brunt, Coleman, Phillips*, Markovic*, Siggy & Lukaku currently, yes would use 2 FT to move Alli to Liverpool mid and if Phillips still injured out for a Bournemouth mid. Would also take a hit and upgrade Amat...Finally

I think that's the problem with this game for some - anonymity of strength and weakness. You should be looking to beat a good rival on a good day rather than a bad rival on a bad day. The rest is sitting on a couch watching TV, eating crisps, reading FFS in the vain hope that someday you might be in the top 10,000 rather than #1. Good luck with your life then.

    b. Do Ibra > Aguero (TC) and 1 ft next week

    Heaton - Grant
    Azpi - Coleman - Brunt - Jones - Maguire
Mane - Alli - Siggy - Phillips - de Roon
    Ibra - Lukaku - Llorente

The point is not whether Sterling outscores Eriksen or Alli by 4, but who do you want long term? Will Sterling outscore one by 4 for the entirety of the time he is in your team?

Personally I'd shift Stan as he is a little pointless atm, or Heaton because Burnley's fixtures are not great.

As I said going forward I want only one spurs mid. So it's basically Erik/Alli -> Sterling -4 -> Pool mid or Erik/Alli -> Pool mid. Either way one will have to go by next gw

    Alli vs Eriksen :
Eriksen looks the Favourite on this Site, But don't understand why?
Eriksen hasn't scored for last 10 Games, which is very worrying.
Isn't it better to Keep the Goalscorer?
Alli plays so ahead too, Can easily get points even if he has a Bad Game.

      • 10 Years

This is exactly what I'm wondering. Eriksen is hugely favoured but I think it's close. Alli has more shots in the box in the last 4 and he gets into deadly positions. I'm probably keeping Alli and selling Erik

Alli scores more although Eriksen scores in bouts and his barren run is not necessarily cause for concern - that he is still scoring so well from assists illustrates his use. He is consistent, and when he scores from the considerable amount of shots he is having more will follow.

The reality though is that there is no obvious answer - that is why their PPG are so similar. Toss a coin.

Correct - I'm probably going to get rid of both for City and to save getting the call wrong and end up with just Walker and Kane from 29. Sanchez is going to be next priority after that.

Eriksen's goal involvement v @FUL, GEN, STO is very high, 66% I think? That cannot be ignored so it's likely that Alli>Sterling is on for me.

Reckon people just see eriksen as more consistent, he is also involved a lot and might look better when you are watching the match. During the course of the season I would prefer eriksen, but for next match I would prefer Alli. I just feel like his runs in behind is deadly against the better teams, and they are facing Everton.

Kane in for Aguero at somepoint later.

Anyone considering not getting Kun on the fact that it would be just like Pep to have him make a cameo for the second game in the DGW and basically ruin the TC option? I feel like Nacho may see some minutes, hopefully tonight will give us a better indication but I'm worried...

This is a stupid comment. Why will he start? Because it suits your plans? Aguerro will most likely start. They'll wanna seal the deal early on. Hell probably give Nacho a half hour to get some minutes under his belt which would suggest he'll cameo against Sunderland and depending on how he plays, may even start against Stoke. Pep will rest Aguerro if/when he has the chance

Nacho, Nolito or False 9. Expect to see these over the coming month in all competitions. It's Pep for Christ sake. I don't have a plan yet, waiting to see what will happen tonight before making any presumptions. All I know is Pep has rotated and rotated all season. 5 games in 18 days suggest he'll keep doing that. Saying Aguerro will start PL games and Nacho start cup games is a biased statement because it's what would suit your plans to get him in and TC him when unfortunately, we have no certainty surrounding Aguerro and his minutes right now

I've considered it - I genuinely think Sterling could keep up with him, despite the much lower price tag. But I'm scared because so many will be bringing Aguero in - there is a fear of not owning him.

So, granted there's a DGW, City's upcoming fixtures look like this:

March 1: Huddersfield in the FA CUP
March 5: Sunderland away in the PL
March 8: Stoke at home in the PL
March 11: Middlesbrough away in the FA cup quarter final
March 15: Sevilla away in the Champions league

Which of these matches does Aguero start? My guess is he starts Sunderland away + one of Stoke at home or Middlesbrough away, then of course the CL match, where he HAS to start.

If the Stoke benching is most likely, it'll be a small catastrophe jumping through -4 hoops to get him in, especially for TC-ers

Though it was interesting on the Scoutcast when Mark said if you get 3 Man City in and TC Aguero it's almost like 10 attacking City players for the week against mediocre opposition for a -8 (or -4 with 2 frees). Put like that it does tempt - if it pans out with minutes...

What I mean is, say you get Aguero for free this week and captain, that gives you "4" players against weakish opposition.

The -8 hit actually buys you 2 more City players, or in the above terms and extra "4" players against weakish opposition. So to say the -8 gets you "10 players" is completely wrong

but it's not just a -8, that's the thing. Will you keep three attacking City assets? The chances are that you will only keep 1, if that. And with other transfers quite possibly necessary with 28 in mind, and the need to get Sanchez back, those 3 transfers might end up costing -16/-20.

I dont see the point in 3 City assets unless a wildcard follows in 28/9.

Well, to make it more general: It throws a total spanner in the works for those who have planned well and secured many GW28 starters - and most importantly, specifically avoided City assets for very clear reasons (one certain blank, one very likely one). Without this GW27 thing I would be so well set, with 11 players for GW28, a great team for GW29 and then wildcard

I'm not sure tbh. I understand the Costa one, as you could swap Aguero out for Kane/Ibra/Lukaku later and the captaincy on Aguero could be massive in 27. But losing Alli (and potential value on him), with Spurs' fixtures and the likely return of the 3-5-2, is a big risk.

If you are taking a hit to bring Sterling in, and then a hit to take him out later, then it would be a definite no for me.

Completeu agree re: Costa. Alli is certainly harder to get rid of...
