While all the pre-deadline chatter centred around our confidence, or otherwise, in Sergio Aguero, it is ironic that, hours later, we’re left pondering the future prospects of two of our season’s most reliable heavy-hitters.

Manchester United’s Zlatan Ibrahimovic had been earmarked as an obvious target for the Gameweek 27 armband. Bournemouth’s visit to Old Trafford appeared to present a perfect scenario for the Swede: finally, he seemed poised to deliver that 15-20 point haul that would show that he could rival any asset for big “explosive” scores.

With the Cherries defence visibly shaken by United’s early forays, it appeared that Ibrahimovic would be given that opportunity. But, instead, he was to suffer his most torrid performance of the season, returning his lowest FPL tally.

To compound matters, an errant elbow into the cheek of Tyrone Mings seems likely to be reviewed and potentially punished by the FA. That could result in a three-match ban, ruling Ibrahimovic out of Gameweeks 29 and 30.

Already missing Gameweek 28 as a result of United’s FA Cup Quarter Final with Chelsea – another match he would miss should a charge and ban arrive – Ibrahimovic has already been sold more than any other asset since the passing of today’s deadline.

While he would certainly become an obvious target once United’s double Gameweek fixtures drop in place, up until that point, he now looks set to flood out of squads, declining in ownership and price.

Certainly, should Sergio Aguero and Harry Kane impress, along with Romelu Lukaku and Diego Costa, in tomorrow’s matches, then a new front three template will likely form without Ibrahimovic.

It’s again ironic that Aguero saved legions of Fantasy Premier League managers from suffering the indignity of a doubling his -1 contribution. With the focus on skippering the City man, we had a new and obvious alternative for the captaincy.

Today’s outcome also created further doubt that, even in a double Gameweek scenario, Ibrahimovic could struggle to rival the promise of Aguero, Kane or Sanchez when it comes to dealing the Triple Captain chip.

But Sanchez produced his own shockwaves, having been ousted to the bench by Arsene Wenger for the evening trip to Liverpool.

While the Chilean impressed and produced an assist from the bench, Wenger’s almost inexplicable decision was unexpected and unwelcome.

Those who turned the back on the Aguero Triple Captain option, banking on the inevitable Sanchez double Gameweek to come, now have to consider that Giroud’s pitch time remains a factor. There will also be further speculation on the relationship between player and manager, while Arsenal’s erratic form and morale remains a concern.

No doubt targeted for an early return to our squads from Gameweek 29 onwards, tonight’s teamsheet and lacklustre first-half from the Gunners may just slow the clamour to return for Sanchez’s services.

Suddenly, with Ibrahimovic potentially out of the equation and confidence in Sanchez taking a knock, those Man City assets may just stick around longer than expected.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

People who bought Aguero for this week - what are your plans for afterwards - selling him on or keeping ?

That depends on how good he looks in these two games

Will all depend what happens, if he gets rested in one of the two games. If he scores well, if he does nothing etc. Too many variables right now to make a decision.

If he looks back to the old I may think about keeping him (and Ibra helps that), otherwise I might ship.

I don't have too many issues keeping him for Liverpool (h).

      As everyone else has said.

But after yesterday it's looking like Kun is all set to be part of the striker template for the rest of the season now. Today and Wednesday will determine that.

At this moment in time I'm thinking that he's going to stay in my team now and so it's whether I keep Lukaku to partner him or get Kane back and add Gabbiadini instead of Carroll.

3-5-2 for me. Arsenal (Sanchez), Spurs (Alli, Eriksen, Kane), Liverpool (Firmino, Coutinho, Mane), Man Utd (Mata, Mkhi) have great fixtures. Costa is reliable up front. Siggy is a gem in midfield. With an Ibra ban incoming he is out of the equation

      Sanchez - Eriksen - Coutinho - Mata - Siggy
      Costa - Kane

      1. F4L

Interesting one. I think Mata and Mkhi improve with no Ibra. Ibra slows the game down - he is good if you are putting it on his head or around the 6 yard box, but he is poor in the counter-attack / transition,

After watching the Bournemouth game yesterday I'd really like a West Ham midfielder next week. Not sure I'll bring one in but they were truly awful in the first half.

The red card probably actually helped them because they had no choice but to defend.

I'll be tempted to bring in Coutinho/Firmino this week to go with Mane but not sure about it yet.

I had CDE until this week, now only DE, but would like to have Walker, wanted to have him all season, just cant afford him. So ADE for sure

      I'm just going for A and E

There is an abundance of midfield assets.

    Worth a -4 to do:
Phillips (I know he plays but eve is a bad fixture) & Sterling to King & Firmino.

Is Defoe not a better option than Gabidani? Much better fixtures in the run in

Sunderland score far less goals than a Southampton and Gabs is cheaper.

No! Southampton much better attacking team, much more creativity!

Question for those that keep a tight eye on price changes, did no one rise/fall on Friday night?

I'm sure Aguero/Sterling etc. were way over 100% on FPLstats.

Wildcards had an effect I believe. Don't think either Rose and Lukaku didn't fall

Only 86,762 wildcards used. So it was not that. I believe admin manipulated it all. Aguero was bought by almost 500K and only moved up once. BS from FPL in this case. Since those players that should have risen, didnt but in turn many players dropped in price. Its almost like they wanted to do a TV CULL!! Angry

Early wildcards....anyone giving it serious consideration?

    By early I mean GW30 / 31.

I know most people will go GW36 wildcard and 37 bench boost but I wonder if the points gained from bench boost will outweight potential points gain over the next 7-8 weeks.

The other side is that of course by 36 we'll have much more information as to what the best team should look like. We'll know roughly who we want in the doubles going forward but not knowing the weeks could be annoying.

Baring in mind we still have transfers to switch our team around between GW30-37 and I know I'd be happy to take hits in the double where needed.

We'll see how the next couple of weeks go but I think my team might need some serious work soon enough.

Guessing it comes down to defence a lot of people will have West brom and stoke? I prefer to hold but concerned about players like holbas still being in my team

I'd be tempted by GW29 WC but the international break is putting me off.

Not having the best team so also have those thoughts, just don't know if the WC + BB is justified by having a not so good team rgiht now.

No. Not at all. FTs and a few hits to bring in the DGWers as necessary from now to GW34.

WC36, BB37 maximises options and points

Not giving any weight to BB whatsoever. More concerned about getting right players in at certain stages and then when that incurs loads of hits will WC. Anything I get from BBing I will consider a bonus.

That's the only problem and given you can have Sterling or Sane for less than Mahrez

    RANDOLPH / pickford
    BAINES / alonso / holebas / pieters / ake
    SIGGY / PHILIPS / sterling / pedro / allen
    LUKAKU / kun / ibra

    1FT, 3.0 ITB

    Will probably do Sterling/Allen > Firmino/Antonio (-4)

    anything else ?
