Manchester City’s front three all get among the points in the first match of their double Gameweek. Elsewhere, Harry Kane and Dele Alli deliver double-figures, and Romelu Lukaku breaches Spurs’ resilient rearguard as Everton prepare for a run of strong home fixtures.

On the Rise

Sergio Aguero
Although we’re not exactly over the moon with a single goal at Sunderland, Aguero’s fifth strike in three keeps his momentum ticking over nicely ahead of Wednesday’s home clash with Stoke City.

The number one transfer target for double Gameweek 27, the Argentine persuaded over 156,000 FPL managers to wield their Triple Captain chip after scoring twice in cup clashes against Monaco and Huddersfield Town in his previous pair of Etihad Stadium outings.

Aguero’s owners will be hoping that history repeats itself in midweek. Back in Gameweek 1, he netted once against Sunderland before squaring up to Stoke in the following league fixture – a match which saw him fire a brace.

Bearing in mind that swashbuckling City notched five times in that recent pair of cup encounters, hopes remain high against a Potters defence that leaked four at White Hart Lane in their previous road trip.

Raheem Sterling
Second only to Aguero for transfers in ahead of the double, the winger maintained his remarkable run of FPL form by setting up the Argentine’s opener.

Sterling has blanked just twice in his last 11 league outings, serving up two goals and nine assists over that period. He has now provided 12 FPL assists for the season – only Christian Eriksen, with 13, has managed more.

It’s not just his output that catches the eye, though – Sterling has now started more league matches than any team-mate under Guardiola. While many will look upon the 12.8-priced Aguero as expendable once the double has passed, the consistent Sterling – at just 7.9 – is making a case to retain for the rest of the run-in, in spite of a blank Gameweek 28.

Leroy Sane
Firing City’s second at the Stadium of Light, the German now has five goals and three assists in his last eight starts across all competitions.

While Aguero and Sterling proved far popular picks, Sane – with a mere 3.3% ownership – has emerged as a canny differential for the double, with today marking a fifth successive start in the top-flight.

The summer signing has played all but two minutes over that run after being subbed off on 88 minutes this afternoon – given that Sterling has played from start to finish in just one of those fixtures, it’s a clear sign of Sane’s growing importance to Pep’s plans in the final third.

With worries over his pitch time now seemingly dispelled, those holding the 7.6-priced Sane may well consider retaining if they can cope without his absence in Gameweek 28.

Harry Kane
Shrugging off a minor knock in time to face the Toffees, the Spurs frontman continued his fine recent form with a two-goal haul in today’s early kick-off.

With many understandably prioritising double Gameweek 27 assets, Kane was drafted in just only 47,000+ FPL managers despite bagging a season-high 20-point return against Stoke last Sunday.

Today’s opener, in particular, illustrates a player whose confidence is sky-high right now, yet the bandwagon will continue to remain on ice as Spurs are, of course, without a fixture in Gameweek 28 due to FA Cup Quarter Final commitments.

Looking at the schedule from Gameweek 29, though, Kane is likely to become an integral part of our three-man frontlines, with Spurs squaring up to Southampton, Burnley, Swansea City, Watford, Bournemouth and Leicester City in the subsequent six.

Dele Alli
While Christian Eriksen suffered a rare blank at the Lane, Alli punished the 106,000 FPL managers who offloaded him for Gameweek 27.

With Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen both passed fit, Mauricio Pochettino was able to retain his 3-4-2-1 set-up, with Alli grabbing a goal and assist thanks to his central support berth behind Kane.

Now up to 13 goals and six assists for the season, Alli’s ascent up the FPL standings has taken him to second spot in the midfield pecking order behind Alexis Sanchez – all the more impressive given that he only scored three times in the first 16 Gameweeks.

While Eriksen continues to rely on assists – he’s now failed to score in 11 straight Gameweeks – Alli’s cutting edge may now see him emerge as the go-to Spurs midfield option for the run-in once we’ve navigated that upcoming blank.

Romelu Lukaku
Despite boasting a Gameweek 28 fixture – at home to West Brom – the Everton frontman was surprisingly dumped by over 161,000 FPL managers ahead of the trip to White Hart Lane.

To an extent, it was understandable – Spurs had conceded just once in their previous seven at home, while Lukaku had failed to score in his last four road trips.

Yet a strike against Pochettino’s troops took the Belgian’s tally to six goals in the last four Gameweeks ahead of four very promising Goodison fixtures (WBA, HUL, LEI, BUR) in the next six.

Already, over 27,000 have turned to Lukaku since yesterday’s deadline, and that upcoming schedule indicates he’s likely to remain prominent in many managers’ plans until a Gameweek 33 clash with the Clarets has passed.

In Decline

Kevin De Bruyne
Considering that no City player had started more league matches than the Belgian prior to today’s match, it’s fair to say that his exclusion from Pep Guardiola’s starting XI took many by surprise.

Having rested David Silva and Yaya Toure against Huddersfield in midweek, the City manager chose to unleash De Bruyne from the bench – disappointing the 6,937 FPL managers who took the bold decision of Triple Captaining him.

Conversely, today’s teamsheet certainly strengthens De Bruyne’s chances of starting at home to Stoke on Wednesday night but on a day where Sterling and Sane illustrated their mid-price value, the 10.5-priced Belgian left his owners once again disappointed.

Jermain Defoe
The most transferred out forward ahead of Gameweek 27, the veteran’s failure at home to City means that he has netted in just one of the last six league outings.

With the Black Cats set to miss Gameweek 28, Defoe is second only to Zlatan Ibrahimovic for sales up front since yesterday as the exodus picks up pace.

Nonetheless, a kind batch of fixtures from Gameweek 29 suggests that Defoe may still have a say – David Moyes’ men are handed home clashes with Burnley and West Ham in addition to trips to Watford and Leicester in four of the subsequent five.

Ademola Lookman
The winger’s run of three straight starts came to an end as Ronald Koeman named him amongst the subs for the trip to Spurs.

Priced at just 5.4 in FPL, Lookman had emerged as a viable, short-term means of navigating the decimated Gameweek 28 schedule after recently clambering ahead of Kevin Mirallas in the Toffees’ pecking order.

Yet while the Belgian benefitted from a second-half sub appearance to provide the assist for Everton’s second, Lookman warmed the bench from start to finish for the first time since arriving from Charlton.

Frustratingly, the winter signing boasted some strong underlying numbers but today’s teamsheet suggests that the pricier Ross Barkley – who earned the assist for the Merseysiders’ opening goal – remains the safest route into Koeman’s midfield ahead of those abovementioned home fixtures.

Is it worth taking an extra -4 to get Mee out for Mawson or Olsson, Mee is basically a non option for me, seems like the perfect week to get rid and with Brunt no longer a good option in my defence I'd ideally like to have 4 trustworthy defenders at least, whether that's via attacking returns or defensive

    If yes then
    A) Mawson
    B) Olsson
    C) No

If you're happy with keeping a Swansea defender going forward then I'd do it. It's only a -2 really and gets a transfer out of the way

Yeah, Swans defenders are the best in the 4.5-7 price bracket imo due to attacking returns, so I would keep them long term, which one do you think is the better option?

I've watched Swansea's last two games and Olsson is getting forward a lot. I'm not sure he'll keep up the goalscoring form, but looks like he'll get a lot of crosses into the box. Mawson along with Llorente is their danger man from set pieces. Hit the post twice yesterday and with Siggy on set pieces I fancy him to be more of a goal threat

    Captain for 28?

Close call between Mane and Lukaku for me.

West Brom may start to slide IMO. They've over-performed so far and they don't really have much to play for now

Lukaku has the higher ceiling, plus West Brom tend to collapse vs the better sides, he edges it for me, an in form Mane at home is very tempting though.

Fairly hard to save in GW29, unless you already have Kane and if you do, you're likely to be very tempted to get in Alexis. Think saving in GW28 is the only route and that depends on your team. But international break after GW29 is so annoying. Been putting me off my WC that.

Earlier for me. Probably 32. Last weeks are too unpredictable. I'd rather lock in the big players now and focus my WC acquisitions on teams that will have doubles. Still likely to BB in 37

      1. Numb

Surely the unpredictability of the last weeks are more a reason to WC later rather than locking in the big players now?

I don't think so. Depends on your priorities. I'm trying to win a cash H2H so GW wins are more important for me than OR.

The unpredictability will result in players unexpectedly rested so there's not much we can do to anticipate that whether WCing immediately before it or a few weeks before. I'd rather try to catch all the big form players while they all have something to play for

I'm thinking of using it next week and I'm not massively overloaded with GW28 players. I think that there's ground to be gained while everyone is trying to get there ideal team together the next few weeks and if I plan properly I should be able to get a full compliment of DGW players out in GW37.

I'm thinking along similar lines. The fixture ticket made me think 32 over 29 because a lot of big teams have favorable fixtures from 32 like Man City, Liverpool, Spurs, Everton whereas the teams with the best fixtures post-29 are mostly dross teams. Also it's after the internationals and we may have more information about DGW timing by then

            • 13 Years
            8 years, 12 months ago

Can't argue with that thought process. My decision isn't set in stone, but I'm not 100% happy with my team at the minute so a wildcard would let me get it fixed and doing that as soon as possible kind of makes sense for me. Like you say though, concrete information on the timing of DGWs would be beneficial

I did it a few weeks ago and I'm about 50 points up on where I would have been so am really happy.
If I'd keep it I'd be using it a week before the biggest DGW, which would likely be 36

Will the game plan be to wildcard before all these doubles ideally loading up with players who have 2 x dgws. Therefore we don't need to worry just now about picking up players from likes of south ars Man U as we'll b wildcarding them in

I'd rather WC 36 for 37. Will be able to spread the funds for 15 decent players and not worry about $ on the bench thereafter.

Is my team more ok for gameweek 28?

    Jakupovic / cech

Nyom Coleman Funes / Valencia Alonso

Phillips Antonio Siggy Firmino / Sterling

    Lukaku Carroll / Aguero

    Gives me 10? Cheers

Best to leave Phillips and hope for a showing in 28 yes?

    a. Ibra + Phillips > Lukaku + Lanzini/Antonio (-4)
    b. Ibra + Capoue > Lukaku + King (-4)
    c. Kun + Phillips > Lukaku + Coutinho/Firmino (-4)
    d. Kun +Ibra + Capoue > Lukaku + Llorente + Cout/Firm (-8)
    e. Something else?

I think it depends on whether Ibra gets banned (which I have to believe he will, but I am merely guessing). If Ibra is banned, then I would do B. I'd likely hold Phillips at this point as he is an attacking player for gw28, if healthy. Capoue is definitely not playing gw28, and Watford are not good.

The hit will leave me with 8 and a dodgy Phillips.

I think I'd rather have a dodgy Phillips than Capoue, who has no game at all -- and really little potential to score points when games resume. If you want to be super agressive, you can sell both mids for a pool player and King.

    Hello guys.

    Foster
    Brunt, Baines, ALONSO, Robertson
    STERLING, Sigurdsson, Mane, Antonio
    Lukaku, AGUERO

subs: Heaton --- Clayton, Holgate, IBRAHIMOVIC --- 0.5 ITB

If Ibra gets 3 match ban, would you do this for a hit: Ibra and Sterling -> Llorente and Coutinho. This would give me 10 players on GW 28.

Why has Heaton just gone yellow now? Was considering transfer to Jakupovic anyway due to good fixtures and banking .7 m. Other keeper Pickford.

I wouldn't worry too much. 8 is fine if you have the more dangerous players included in that. The extra players people have filling the other spots aren't likely to score massive points.

Sterling to Siggy, I think. Not sure Llorente is as consistent as Siggy. I also did the Alli to Sterling for a hit move. Not over yet, but I was torn between selling Eriksen and Alli myself, and chose incorrectly. Erik came close on a couple of occasions, too.

Agreed, he doesn't deserve the abuse he gets. Saw an interesting graph a while back of Arsenal's league position every season going back to their formation and there's no doubt that the Wenger years are an anomaly. No team has a right to be in the top four and historically they haven't been a top four team consistently.

The way Arsenal spend, they could easily become a mid table side 3 or 4 years from now post-Wenger. These fans should be careful what they wish for.

The consistency in reaching the top 4 over the years is fantastic there is no doubt about that but the gripe with fans is there was to be a period of top 4 mediocrity for a few years while the stadium was built .. it was then they were promised the money generated would be put into the team and challenge the other top sides in the transfer market and for league titles.. aside from Ozil and Sanchez neither has been the case and the fans are paying for the dearest season tickets in europe and not seeing the club move forward in any way.. Even Sanchez is clearly fed up with this top 4 business and getting ripped a new one in the CL every season..

What is he supposed to do? Money has been spent and the signings haven't worked out. Not sure why is it so hard to understand for the fans. Sanchez Ozil Xhaka Mustafi Perez have all been fairly expensive. I don't know how many top top players want to come to Arsenal. Arsenal need to somehow squeak out some 2nd places with the squad they have, or with relatively lesser known players to attract even better players. Look how well Tottenham is doing with that model. Can't understand the overreaction.

Yeah, so the signings haven't worked out. Big deal. I bet the whole world was chasing the likes of Kante and Dembele but they opted to sign for Leicester and Spurs, right? You don't only win things with the best players. The league is hard and supposedly great players having amazing seasons/careers end up limp in the premier league. How's Pogba doing and how did Falcao do last year? Remember what Pogba did for Juve last year and what Falcao is doing for Monaco this year? Expectations need to be toned down. Granted Coq and Xhaka are terrible but are City's defensive mids, Yaya and Fernandinho amazing? Look at how many bad defensive signings City have made? May be it is not easy to find great defensive mids.

I'm guessing the fans find it hard when the majority of signings brought to the club turn out to be gash.. the top players don't want to come anymore because of the same reasons the best players on their books want out after a few years.. no ambition..

What I don't buy about arsenal or the perception of Arsenal is what a great footballing side.

For me they are all fart no splash. This namby pamby possession but no spine no balls no steel no fight. A culture of blame. The kind of boys who are watching a man run through on goal when they should be reacting and blaming someone for something they themselves should have reacted to.

No leadership. No central midfielder who actually worth a damn. No defensive unit which is fast mean and agile.

But everyone says Wenger is untouchable, it's the board, my arse. He has a warped sense of reality. The reality is he's as done as yesterday Sunday roast and so is his philosophy.

It's exactly right every word.. i remember a number of years ago Wenger complaining after we beat them at Old Trafford that Darren Fletcher was bullying their players.. called him a bully.. no joke now if any of the players you send out on a field are getting pushed around by Darren bloody Fletcher then there is something seriously wrong but it also tells the story of how weak they became.. Vieira would have snapped Fletcher like a kit kat (as long as Keane wasn't around)

Different era of course but the physical nature of the English game hasn't changed in the last 20 years.. you can't win a premier league title or compete on a level playing field with the best sides consistently if you can't match them for fight.. Wenger has opted for smaller and more technically gifted players for a number of years and they are all found wanting and go into their shell when lesser teams who can't match them for ability get in their faces and give them a few kicks.. look at Chelsea who are going to win the league this season for every flair player they have in Hazard and Pedro or Fabregas there is a Costa Luiz Matic or Kante you would take into a real battle with you.. Arsenal don't have them which is why they go to Stamford Bridge and get torn apart more often than not

Yeah, but how many teams in the league have the kind of player you are talking about? Chelsea, yes, but it is the same guy Leicester had. Kante was not a big player from a big team. He was a complete unknown. Luiz has been a revelation this season, but let's not forget the perception of him prior to this year. Matic had a great year when they won with Jose but what happened last year? Players these days are very easily great one year and awful the next. Also, you must understand that these foreign managers these days tend to focus more on technical ability. Pep's opinion on that is fairly well-known too. Everyone will burst out laughing if we talk of Liverpool's "defensive mids". I like the Spurs mids in Dembele and Wanyama, but they have flopped big time in Europe too. May be Wenger is trying too much to find technically gifted defensive mids but may be finds good defensive players these days is just harder.

Again i think it falls back on the manager as even a player whose natural game isn't to do the dirty work and get stuck in when needed and lead by example etc etc can be motivated into doing so by the right coach and other players feed off it.. Arsenal have played some of the most attractive football in Europe for well over a decade but it's not enough to just play one way all the time and their trophy cabinet shows this and he has done nothing to rectify it

I think we have to face the fact that Arsenal is in the process of becoming toxic and volatile. None of this is going to end well.

I won't be rushing. I was thinking about GW29 but it can wait till GW31 I think and I'll take a look at what transpires.

Could be the beginning of the end for this Arsenal era and this Arsenal team too. Sanchez will be off in the summer and quite probably Wenger also.

To be honest I don't get why they have put up with "the specialist in failure" for so long. A stubborn man with out of date tactics and a refusal to get the type of players Arsenal need. Poor old Claude has been driven beyond the end of his wits. 🙁

    Heaton
    Baines Coleman Evans Amat 🙂
    Siggy Mane Carroll
    Lukaku

    Pickford Aguero/Sane/Sterling/Alonso

    Thinking
GW28: Sane ➡ Josh King yay or Nay?

    Gw29 Sterling ➡ Alli
    GW30 maybe Kun/King ➡ Gabbiadini/Sanchez

I'll be ridding Foster GW29 to leave Jaku as the last man standing.

WC in GW32 to prep team for 2 DGW's to follow.

      Triple C chip in GW33.

Few transfers in 34-36 to tweak team a little bit.

Big Bench Boost in 37 to overtake my ML rival.

It needs somebody brighter than me to do what we need to do this week.

Does anybody have the where with all to work out an estimate of ownership for GW28 in the wider game?....Those figures should include an estimate of number of starters for top 10k and Random sample.

It matters because we on this site could be in danger of driving each other away from the bigger picture instead of sticking hold of prime picks when in fact seven starters (?) and sitting on our hands may be the better tactic.

    Can anybody provide a guide/guesstimate ?

Impression that I get on FFS is that most seem to be happy playing 7/8/9 players in GW28.

I've got nine and fine with it. Did think of another hit to triple pool midfield but then wouldnt have enough to get in Kane the next week for crouch.

There's only one template in town for GW28, and it consists of 8-9 good players.

Getting out a full 11 probably means drafting in 1-2 players you wouldn't do normally...so you probably shouldn't bother for one GW...better to bench those prize assets.

This seems to be true. Most people who planned have 8,9 playing, those who didn't are struggling with 3,4.

        Loving it.

Good question and I have no idea of the answer. All I can offer is that in GW30 last season, there were only 5 games, and the avg score was 35 points. It's quite different to GW28 though as there were big, highly owned teams like Leicester, City and Spurs playing in GW30 last year.

So I'd expect the avg to be lower than 35 points in 28

        Interesting.

This season I suspect Lukaku will be the overwhelmingly highest (c) pick which may help those wishing to sit on their hands....just as long as they also (c) him...

Yeah, tough one. Lukaku took his one chance very well today. He'll get a few more against WBA and could easily get a big haul

              I'm gonna go Lukaku.

WBA bad on the road, Lukaku playing against his old club.

Always that nagging doubt with Liverpool. Beat Spurs and Arsenal, play crap against lesser sides like Hull and Leicester...plus the Liverpool lottery that you hardly ever win 🙂

              Lukaku the safer pick IMO.

    Current GW 28 team:

    Heaton
    Coleman Brunt Kingsley*
    Mane Siggy Sterling* Phillips
    Lukaku Llorente Aguero*

    Grant Alonso Pieters De Roon

    FT used, 5.1 ITB

    Kingsley > Maguire
    Sterling > Firmino (-8)?

That gives you 10 starters. Better than most. You could trade Sterling to Mane or Coutinho, too.
