Raheem Sterling is handed the night off, while Sergio Aguero disappoints as double Gameweek 27 fails to live up to the hype. A goalless draw at the Etihad means that defences prevail over the pair of fixtures as Manchester City and Stoke deliver the unexpected and bring in two clean sheets apiece.

On the Rise

Aleksandar Kolarov
While John Stones dropped to the bench this evening, Kolarov once again retained his spot in the heart of Pep Guardiola’s back-four – an eighteenth start in their last 19 league matches.

Back-to-back clean sheets over the double – City now have four in their last five – was supplemented with maximum bonus away to Sunderland to ensure that the Serbian ended double Gameweek 27 with a 15-point return, joint-top for the Etihad side.

With City set for another double further down the line, Kolarov may yet have a part to play in our seasons once the schedule turns kinder in Gameweek 32.

Lee Grant, Eric Pieters
Stoke’s budget stopper came up trumps once again to deliver 13 points for his 8.9% owners.

City’s poor performance meant that Grant needed to make just a single save on his way to earning a third clean sheet in his last four appearances.

Since being handed a first start in Gameweek 6, Grant’s average of 4.2 points per match is more than any Potters player and not far off Burnley’s Tom Heaton (4.5) between the posts.

As for Pieters, he claimed two bonus points from last night’s stalemate and has now gathered additional points in three of his last six, amassing six bonus points over that spell. Owned by 8.2%, the Dutchman is by far the most popular option in Mark Hughes’ rearguard, though his appeal is clearly limited by the Grant option.

Stoke may have a blank next weekend, but the following schedule is in their favour, with clashes against six of the bottom ten in their subsequent eight from Gameweek 29 onwards.

In Decline

Sergio Aguero
Much was expected of both City and their star striker – they had scored five in each of their last two at the Etihad and found the net in every home league match under Guardiola.

Subject to a major bandwagon for the double, Aguero convinced almost 160,000 FPL managers to wield their Triple Captain chip but ultimately managed just one goal and nine points for his pair of fixtures.

Wednesday’s blank means it’s just two goals in his last ten Gameweek appearances for Aguero, with City now sitting out Gameweek 28 prior to clashes against Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea.

Over 40,000 managers have already parted company this week and the drift towards Harry Kane – who has 12 goals in ten, by comparison – is likely to accelerate once we navigate the weekend blank.

Raheem Sterling
The second most bought player for the double Gameweek, Sterling fell victim to Guardiola’s rotation as he was handed the night off against the Potters.

To an extent, Pep had a point – Sterling had started more league matches than any team-mate prior to tonight, yet that’s no consolation for his 17.3% FPL owners, who ended the Gameweek with six points.

An assist for Aguero’s opener at Sunderland means the winger has produced points in nine of his last 11 league appearances, but in spite of that consistency, the City teamsheet served a reminder that we cannot hope to second-guess their manager.

Sterling has already been sold by 50,000+ FPL managers this week, as Guardiola’s tinkering has us thinking twice over retraining their pricey assets

Peter Crouch
A run of ten straight league starts came to an end on Wednesday after the Potters’ target man dropped to the bench to accommodate new boy Saido Berahino.

It was on the cards. Crouch had managed 90 minutes in just one of his previous four as Hughes looked to initially utilise the former West Brom man off the bench late on.

With Berahino’s match fitness now up to scratch, Crouch’s appeal as a
valid budget third striker now looks somewhat limited – with a blank Gameweek 28 preceding a clash with Chelsea, his 6% owners may look to bail soon.

Taking an extra hit this GW is better than taking it next week right?

I'll be getting Kane like everyone else but to do so I'll need to take a -4 by dumping Phillips. Will we know if he's playing before deadline?

I already took a hit doing Phillips to King. Even if he plays it's a likely 2 pointer

If it's the right transfer that doesn't require another transfer. TP doesn't give much away but the presser is tomorrow so at least wait until then.

Except for the fact that most people playing this week are not the long term players you would want in. Unless you don't have Siggy/Liv Mid/Luk.

    Foster
M Olsson, Evans, Coleman (Luiz, Tomkins)
    Coutinho, Firmino, Siggy, Barkley, Markovic
    Lukaku, Carroll (Kane)

Hi all - with 5 players in the EVE WBA game, does the armband still go on Kaku?

I'm thinking Mane could destroy Burnley, and am happy not captaining Kaku given the coverage I have in his game. Ridiculous reasoning?

    X(I) is:
    Randolph
Brunt RFM Coleman Amat / Alonso
Siggy Antonio Fletcher Mane / Sterling
    Kaku Llorente / Kun
    -4

Mane or Kaku for (c) if you had that team?

    Randolph
    Coleman, Baines, Brunt
    Mane, Sigurdsson, Antonio, Phillips (?)
    Lukaku, Llorente

Heaton, Friend*, Alonso*, de Roon*, Kane*
    7.7 itb.

Im probably going to do Kun, Sterling and Stanislas to Llorente, Firmino and King -12. Want to get rid all of them and keep those three. Now its the best way to take hit, its probably just -12.

All the players transferred in you'd have to fancy getting points. It's a -12 but probably a -6 and so only one of them needs to perform to be in the money. The alternative is 0.

Carroll if you need the money. King has good fixtures for the next few and with Antonio back and Ayew fit that WH midfield could be a lottery.

Gameweek 28 is the real rank changer not GW 27 imo. A lot of casuals won't have prepared for it properly, hope to see a nice rank rise with 10/11 players

I'll ask again if you don't mind. Best option for a 2 week punt (have Siggy and Antonio):

A: Big Andy (bou, LEI) -4
    B: Llorente (hul, bou) -4
C: No punt, play Barnes in gw29 (sun)

Either way they become Gabbiadini in GW30, it's not a long term dealio

Hi guys. I'm gonna take a hit to field 8 players this wk and I have a couple of players I'm happy to sell,ie,Philips and PvA .
Was interested to know what player at this stage in the season that you would be happy to keep til seasons end and has a game this blank gw.

    Thinking about Mawson,ollson,king,llorente etc.

    Appreciated your thoughts.

Of that lot Olsson/Mawson would be the only ones I'd look at keeping.

You already have Siggy and Mane so they are keepers and you could just interchange the fillers based on fixtures.

    Heaton (Pickford)
    Coleman Brunt Smith (Alonso Pieters)
    Sigurdsson Phillips (Eriksen Sterling Sane)
    Lukaku Llorente (Aguero)

    0 FT 3.1 ITB
Have done Ibrahimovic de Roon > Llorente Sigurdsson (-4).
Plan to do Sterling > Coutinho (-4) assuming Couts is and no news on Phillips...
Allows Aguero Sane > Kane Sanchez (-4) next week.
Solid plan ? - any other ideas welcome.

Why are people obsessing on getting Mané/Firm? Is Coutinho looking like a differential for the coming weeks? I know his % is pretty high, but we have to take into account that there's a lot of dead teams there?

    @OptaJoe
1 - Man City managed just one shot on target last night - the fewest any Pep Guardiola side has managed in a home league match. Restricted.

Wounded by Aguero's blank. ML rival also had double Stoke DF & GK and jumped to top of the table with 4 points more.

    Who should I get ?

A: Lanzini - match him and block this differential who hurt me several times

    B: Coutinho
    C: Firmino

B or C will go together with Mane and without WHU.

    D: Antonio

Either Coutinho or Antonio for me. If you are happy with two Pool going fwd then do it. Or does it restrict you getting other mid assets like Alli/Sanchez?

      A

Not only is it a block, but I think it will be good for your OR. He's also that little bit cheaper which gives you much more flexibility in bringing in Sanchez.
