Raheem Sterling is handed the night off, while Sergio Aguero disappoints as double Gameweek 27 fails to live up to the hype. A goalless draw at the Etihad means that defences prevail over the pair of fixtures as Manchester City and Stoke deliver the unexpected and bring in two clean sheets apiece.

On the Rise

Aleksandar Kolarov
While John Stones dropped to the bench this evening, Kolarov once again retained his spot in the heart of Pep Guardiola’s back-four – an eighteenth start in their last 19 league matches.

Back-to-back clean sheets over the double – City now have four in their last five – was supplemented with maximum bonus away to Sunderland to ensure that the Serbian ended double Gameweek 27 with a 15-point return, joint-top for the Etihad side.

With City set for another double further down the line, Kolarov may yet have a part to play in our seasons once the schedule turns kinder in Gameweek 32.

Lee Grant, Eric Pieters
Stoke’s budget stopper came up trumps once again to deliver 13 points for his 8.9% owners.

City’s poor performance meant that Grant needed to make just a single save on his way to earning a third clean sheet in his last four appearances.

Since being handed a first start in Gameweek 6, Grant’s average of 4.2 points per match is more than any Potters player and not far off Burnley’s Tom Heaton (4.5) between the posts.

As for Pieters, he claimed two bonus points from last night’s stalemate and has now gathered additional points in three of his last six, amassing six bonus points over that spell. Owned by 8.2%, the Dutchman is by far the most popular option in Mark Hughes’ rearguard, though his appeal is clearly limited by the Grant option.

Stoke may have a blank next weekend, but the following schedule is in their favour, with clashes against six of the bottom ten in their subsequent eight from Gameweek 29 onwards.

In Decline

Sergio Aguero
Much was expected of both City and their star striker – they had scored five in each of their last two at the Etihad and found the net in every home league match under Guardiola.

Subject to a major bandwagon for the double, Aguero convinced almost 160,000 FPL managers to wield their Triple Captain chip but ultimately managed just one goal and nine points for his pair of fixtures.

Wednesday’s blank means it’s just two goals in his last ten Gameweek appearances for Aguero, with City now sitting out Gameweek 28 prior to clashes against Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea.

Over 40,000 managers have already parted company this week and the drift towards Harry Kane – who has 12 goals in ten, by comparison – is likely to accelerate once we navigate the weekend blank.

Raheem Sterling
The second most bought player for the double Gameweek, Sterling fell victim to Guardiola’s rotation as he was handed the night off against the Potters.

To an extent, Pep had a point – Sterling had started more league matches than any team-mate prior to tonight, yet that’s no consolation for his 17.3% FPL owners, who ended the Gameweek with six points.

An assist for Aguero’s opener at Sunderland means the winger has produced points in nine of his last 11 league appearances, but in spite of that consistency, the City teamsheet served a reminder that we cannot hope to second-guess their manager.

Sterling has already been sold by 50,000+ FPL managers this week, as Guardiola’s tinkering has us thinking twice over retraining their pricey assets

Peter Crouch
A run of ten straight league starts came to an end on Wednesday after the Potters’ target man dropped to the bench to accommodate new boy Saido Berahino.

It was on the cards. Crouch had managed 90 minutes in just one of his previous four as Hughes looked to initially utilise the former West Brom man off the bench late on.

With Berahino’s match fitness now up to scratch, Crouch’s appeal as a
valid budget third striker now looks somewhat limited – with a blank Gameweek 28 preceding a clash with Chelsea, his 6% owners may look to bail soon.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

    Heaton (Pickford)
Baines / McAuley / Maguire (Kingsley / Alonso)
Mane / Phillips (Eriksen / Sterling / De Roon)
    Lukaku (Aguero / Defoe)
    1 FT & 1.0 ITB

    I'm thinking Aguero + Sterling -> Llorente + Siggy (-4)

    Better suggestions?

After listening to the scoutcast it would seem anyone who actually came out of this GW in profit after hits has done alright. I sold Phillips & Defoe for T.Carroll & Aguero TC, so I was like meh...came out in profit but could have been/expected better. I did toy with selling Ibra for Aguero & Phillips to Sane which would have been better, also thought long and hard about getting Stones in which also would have been good, but at the same time Alli/Mane to Sterling was also an option which I was close to doing but decided against, so all in all I have to be happy I suppose. Ended on 74 - 4. GW Rank 375K.

    Anyone else care to share?

I took out Hazard, Eriksen and Jesus for Sterling, Lanzini and Aguero (TC) for -8.

25 (so 17...) points for the new three vs 13. Not too bad, and would have captained Zlatan were it not for having Aguero, so all in all come out as a net gain I guess. Just need to cross fingers the TC doesnt come back to bite in the next double game weeks

Still managed to drop in OR though

Good point, I too would have capt Zlatan 100% so dodged that bullet...also, I've just seen that Stones didn't start last night, so no loss there. Never considered any Stoke players so can't grumble at that.

I had Grant from before so that paid off handsomely. All in all despite being disappointed with Aguero's returns, I can't complain with how it went really. I'm around 20 points better off than I would have been, even with the -8.

Yeah, sorry that was before TC. So 47 when TC'ed and with Ibra.

If I'd not made any changes I'd have captainied Ibra and got 23 points!

I technically profited due to Aguero TC, but am looking at the negatives and ignoring the chip.

4 points worse off last gameweek. And have to make an additional two transfers this week.

So minus 12, all in all.

    GW28 = Kun > Llorente (-4)
    GW29 = Phillips > Sanchez
    GW30 = Lukaku > Costa

    Jaku - Heaton
    Alonso - Walker - Coleman - Pieters - Evans

    Kane - Kun - Lukaku

I do, I got Llorente in for Ibra. However, I would have held off until next week for Kane if I didn't have Kun as well. My plan is Kun to Kane next week then Llorente to Gabbiadini in GW30.

    Mane, Coutinho, Markovic, Siggy (Eriksen)

    My team for GW 28:

    Jaku
    Baines Mcauley
    Antonio Phillips Firmino Siggy mane
    Llorente lukaku

Bench: yoshida, rose, graban, Cahill, cech.

10 ft and already did a -4 hit. 4.3 itb

Please I need help, what should I do now for gw28 and the game weeks coming after?

Maybe stay with 9-10 players playing, or I could go for Coleman or another option.

Amat to any starting 5th (bench) defender is a good move, but not for -4.

If It is for a defender you will keep for the season and rotate into your team as a starter from time to time, then at -2, this is the week to do it

What do you think of Grosicki as sn option? Rotates perfectly with Snodgrass for me

Days of rotating milfs are long gone. Pick the best and play them.

Why? I've seen managers reaping rewards with rotating mids. Just because it's not popular doesn't mean it's bad!

When Sergio Aguero > Fernando Lllorente for a hit is the answer, you know it's been a very strange season 🙂

Or Andy Carroll for a hit :S

    Righto

    Jukupovic / Heaton
    Coleman, Macguire, Brunt, Macauly, (Azpilicuta)
    Lallana, Philips, (Allen, Sterling, Eriksen)
    Lukaku, Carroll (Kun)
    £0.3m in the bank
    I was thinking for

    a) Sterling - Coutinho
    b) Sterling - Siggy
    c) Sterling - Antonio

If I go Coutinho I dont have any funds left in the bank for the future. Any other area I could do?

Top 100K for the first time!

    G2G for the weekend?

    Heaton
    Fernandez - Coleman - Evans
    Firmino - Mane - Siggy - Carroll
    Lukaku - Carroll

Could do Sterling -> Somone but think I rather hold him for the next period.

G2G, you already have Siggy and 2 Lverpool mid's so I don't think there's anybody worth getting rid of Sterling for.

He's been very unlucky. Lanzini firing well at the moment, but could very well change with Antonio starting to fire.

I'm leaning Lanzini though as he's the man of the moment and cheaper.

Antonio delivered an assist last week though. Ended up getting sent off which effectively came out to a blank.

Keep Eriksen and depending on if/when you'd want Sanchez back, it' may be worth doing.
