It has been confirmed that Everton’s Seamus Coleman has suffered a broken leg playing for the Republic of Ireland against Wales in Friday’s World Cup Qualifier, following a horrific challenge by Aston Villa’s Neil Taylor.

The full-back was stretchered from the field on 72 minutes with his with the Irish physios attempting to hold his lower-right leg in position. Post-match is was confirmed that Coleman had been taken to hospital with a break.

A key Fantasy asset, Coleman is currently owned by over 851,000 (19.3%) Fantasy Premier League managers having provided a consistent stream of recent returns. The full-back has produced a goal, assist or clean sheet in nine of his last ten Gameweeks.

He will be huge loss to Everton and the Republic of Ireland and we can only wish the player a speedy recovery.

From a Fantasy perspective, his absence will likely see Everton boss Ronald Koeman turn to 20-year-old Mason Holgate, priced at 4.0, to fill the significant void at right-back.

Elsewhere, Coleman’s sales will no doubt lead to heavy investment in Manchester United’s Antonio Valencia ahead of his double Gameweek 34.

Spurs’ Kyle Walker would also become a popular target for Coleman’s current owners, along with Southampton’s Ryan Bertrand; the Saints left-back has produced four assists in his last five outings and will enjoy 11 fixtures over his final nine Gameweeks.

Regardless, tonight our thoughts are with the Everton man – a player who will undoubtedly figure in our squads as key asset on his return to the pitch.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

All premier league matches should have a minutes applause for Coleman in GW30

No they shouldn't, he isn't dead.

I hope he recovers well and gets on the pitch soon however.

This. Giving him a round of applause would lessen the impact it has when it comes to major traumatic events.

Yeah, should be reserved for major events. Would be nice if Everton did it as a localised thing though.

Next thing we know Walker will be injured, i advise everyone to hold back on the transfres and focus on their lives for the next 4-5 days till all the international fixtures are done

    1. Maximus Bonimus Pointimus
      • 16 Years
      9 years, 6 days ago

It'll be the old trade-off between flexibility vs. TV. if coleman's price drops 0.2 & walker or valencia go up 0.2 that's a lot of TV... but 4 points is also a lot of points to waste on another transfer in event of an injury.

According to FFFix, he's already being transferred out at a rate of more than times any other player. It's like people don't learn. Do they not connect what happened to him to something that could happen to the very player they are bringing in?

      I shouldn't be surprised, but I guess I am.

Doesn't seem to be much between Vert and Toby, so I'd save the money and get Vert.

Yep but he's a bit pricey, may just get the budget friendly Yoshida to help upgrades elewhere

Yep, he is looking like a decent pick, very nice run of fixtures and attacking returns likely, take a brave FPL manager to go against the flow though and avoid Valencia.

Not so sure in a rather unpredictable side this season. If getting a Soton Def I would get a cheapie.

Don't think I'd opt for a cheapie myself, not been many CS in the absence of VVD, Bertrand is the only one that really appeals to me due to his attacking threat. At a glance it appears he is only 11 points behind Valencia but played 5 less games. He has 2 DGW's and fixtures are looking great.

There was a horrid period of rotation around Xmas/NY. It was due to the ghastly schedule they got, but still a bit of worry in DGW's, maybe.

Valencia won't play 11 games. Did you not learn anything from Liverpool this time last year?
