The first iteration of the Hot Topics page is now live and can be accessed here.

The link is also available under the Hot Topics tab in the sidebar widget – View All to see the current Hot Topics page.

This represents the first step in what hopefully will be an evolution in the way the community use the site from this point on.

As it stands, the first version is a simple index of the current Hot Topics created, offering direct access to all the discussions flagged as a Hot Topic.

However, we have big plans to evolve this further.

The first step will be to add features to the current page, allowing Moderators to pin Topics to the top of the page to keep them current.

Following that, we will likely look at a method of indicating the current most active Hot Topics and those contributing.

The next proposed steps take even bigger strides.

The vision is for the Hot Topic page to link to a mirrored version of the discussion, allowing for interaction without the need to enter the article thread.

In this way users can choose to view and post within a discussion in the traditional way, via the article thread, or use the Hot Topic page to see the discussion full page and post replies via that view. They will not be separate discussions, there will just be two methods to view and interact.

As this process evolves, the community moderation team will change their approach to Hot Topics. We will have more opening each day, more created as soon as we feel that there is a topic to discuss. They won’t exclusively be created from existing threads.

The moderators will also be far more protective of the discussion within these Hot Topic threads. They will be kept on topic and existing Hot Topics will not be used to open new discussions. You will see the moderators steering and perhaps removing comments more often to keep with this policy.

The community will carry on creating threads that get flagged as Hot Topics in the traditional way – by posting and starting a discussion in the article thread.

However, we may even look at the concept of creating a new level of permission to some community members which enable them to create Hot Topics directly from the Hot Topic page.

This will then create a hybrid of a comments system and old style forum, allowing users to interact with the full conversations of the day, or just navigate straight to the key topics currently being discussed.

In this way, users who want to avoid the pre-season Rate My Team chatter, can circumvent this while continuing to contribute to the key discussions.

We hope you can see the same potential in this development and, from this point on, we will look to you to help steer how it progresses.

We’ve started one of those Hot Topic things to kick things off, gathering your feedback and ideas on the above.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Hi guys,

    Re DGWs, do we agree on the following?

    a) GW34 only one double fixt, (utd-city)

    b)all remaining fixtures will be played on GW 37 (Che-Wat, Leic-Spurs, South-Utd, City-West Br).

    c) Arsenal's two fixtures (South-Ars, Ars-Sund) will one be played on GW37 and the other anyone knows?

      If I had no money tied up in him, I would switch him to Vardy. But starting in GW32 I'm going to want him back, at least until WC in 35 or 36. Money DOES matter when you are trying to get a good GW37 15-man side, so I can't afford to drop the 0.4 I would lose by doing the Lukey-cokey.

    Wasn't a article was supposed to be out for the FFS cup telling who has qualified and who they will be facing in first round ? I know TM's spreadsheet pretty much tells who has qualified but it does not tell who we are facing in the first round.

    Morning all,

    Had some spare time so thought i'd try and plan for next few weeks in order to get spurs mid and Ibra when the time comes.

    Current team is:

    Heaton / Pickford

    Jones / Alonso / PVA / Evans / Holgate

    Sanchez / Mane / Pedro / King / T Carroll

    Aguero / Lukaku / Llorente

    So i'd be looking at the below. I know plans rarely work but what do you think?

    GW 30 - Jones to Valencia, Heaton to Valdes
    GW 31- King to Eriksen, Llorente to Negredo
    GW32 - Save
    Gw 33 - Mane to coutinho or Alonso to Stones
    GW34 - Lukaku to Ibra
    GW 35 - WC

    Cheers

        I can afford a 0.1 drop on Gabbi or Costa as i bought them for 0.1 less than their current price. So i'll be waiting for the pressers on thurs/friday before making a move.

    Team is:

    A) vertonghen - spurs have some good looking fixtures
    B) yoshida - 2dgws coming up and he's cheap which might enable me to make transfers such as mane - Sanchez further down the line.

    Thoughts?

        Abel playing for WCQ Wednesday in Peru. Only back on Friday.

        Reading the forums everyone says They should start 2 up front vs WHam & Midb. Must win games.

        He was badly missed vs Eve when they lost 0-4. Scored 2 in 30 min and won game vs Swans and scored winning goal vs Livp.

      But would you lose Llorente for him for a hit? Is it worth it, say, to let Llorente play this week and then Llorente to Niasse? Seems a waste with mci straight after.

        Just thinking this is the week to take a hit. I can see Niasse(-4) outscoring Llorenthe over 2 weeks.Wham is really poor at the moment.

        I'm getting Alexis next week, which means I'm still stuck with Brunt/Capoue/Llorenthe so a -4 will happen anyway.

    Alonso - Clyne - Valencia

    Lukaku - Vardy (c) - Llorente

    With this new Hot Topics system - if a regular user created a post and it got a lot of upvotes (say, 73) would that automatically become a Hot Topic?

        At the moment, the issues that the community want to discuss get overlooked whilst Jonty can self-create a Hot Topic that gets like 4 replies

      You are good to go with a nice team, and funds to invest in Sanchez or Ibrah next week.

      I have the same options and I'm going for Alonso, I can't remember the last time I captained a defender but a great chance of a cleansheet and he is reasonably attacking.
      Higher PPG than Aguero as well.

    Please pick the plan which gains the most points overall:

    Team:

    Heaton – Pickford

    Colman – Baines - Robertson – Alonso – Knightly

    Mane – Alli – Siggy – Phillips - Clayton

    Aguero – Defoe – Lukaku

    Plan 1

    GW 30 – Coleman –> Valencia

    GW 31 – Aguero -> Ibra-Everton (H) + Phillips -> Lanzini-Arsenal (A) -4 Points

    GW32 – Mane -> Sanchez-Palace(A) + Baines -> Holgate or a 4.3 -4 Points

    Total= -8 Points

    Plan 2

    GW30 – Coleman -> Valencia

    GW31 – Aguero -> Ibra-Everton (H)

    GW32 – Baines -> Holgate or another 4.3

    GW33 – Phillips -> Lanzini –Swan(H)

    GW34 – Mane -> Sanchez

    With Plan 2 I would miss Sanchez fixture vs Palace(A) and Boro (A) but have Mane vs Stoke (A) and West Brom (H). Who scores more over those two fixtures?

    With plan 2 im 8 points better off as well but don’t have a full team playing so would having Lanzini vs Arsenal (A) and Swansea (H) make up for the hit??

    Sorry for the length of the post. First to 5 wins.

      Would prefer Sanchez over Mane for those 2 games... Poor away form plus 2 okish defense probably means nothing for Mane in those games.
