Our captain poll has been overhauled once again as we prepare for the third and final round of quick-fire fixtures in this busy week of Premier League football.

As with the last two Gameweeks, this looks like another where no clear captain will emerge, with all of the top six sides – Spurs, Liverpool Arsenal, Chelsea and both Manchester clubs – enjoying kind fixtures.

Once again Alexis Sanchez (11.6), who pipped Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy to top spot in last Gameweek’s poll by just 1% of the vote, looks set to garner interest when Arsenal drop by Crystal Palace on Monday.

With both sides yet to play in Gameweek 31, Fantasy managers will need to monitor whether the Gunners’ top scorer can prosper against West Ham from what appears to be a regular role on the left flank.

Attacking returns in eight of his last ten going into tonight’s match suggest the 27.9%-owned Chilean is more than capable of delivering once again.

Meanwhile, there will be keen attention on whether the Eagles’ resilient backline, which has kept three clean sheets and conceded just once in their last four, will prosper when they visit Southampton tonight.

Spurs assets are also expected to compete for the summit as they welcome Watford to White Hart Lane this weekend.

The Hornets might have defeated West Brom 2-0 at Vicarage Road last night, but away from home against a far more attacking side – and with injuries and suspensions biting – this looks to be an enticing clash for Dele Alli (9.0) in particular.

While Walter Mazzarri’s troops have conceded 25 times and kept just two clean sheets on their travels, the 31.6%-owned Spurs midfielder goes into tonight’s Liberty Stadium tie against Swansea City with attacking returns in each of his previous four league starts.

Six assists and five goals in front of his own fans means Christian Eriksen (8.8) is another Spurs player likely to attract attention.

Three goal attempts and a converted penalty for Zlatan Ibrahimovic (11.4) in Manchester United’s 1-1 home draw with Everton last night should once again bring votes for the big Swede, who grabbed third spot in our last poll and emerged as the most popular captain among all FPL managers in Gameweek 31.

United’s top scorer, with 16 league goals, will be up against a Sunderland defence at the Stadium of Light that has conceded 11 times and kept just one shut-out in their last six.

Following last night’s Gameweek deadline, Ibrahimovic has already emerged as the most popular acquisition in FPL’s transfer market.

Sergio Aguero (12.7) will be leading the charge for Pep Guardiola’s troops in our latest poll ahead of Hull City’s visit to the Etihad Stadium.

The 21.7%-owned Argentine goes into tonight’s visit to Chelsea in strong form, having scored three in his last five. Leroy Sane (7.6) is another Sky Blue that could prove appealing – he’s notched two goals and an assist in his last six starts. With a mere 4.3% ownership, he looks a strong differential option for those willing to take a risk with the armband.

Chelsea’s attacking assets also emerge as serious contenders when they drop by the Vitality Stadium to take on a Bournemouth rearguard that has conceded 23 times in their 15 home league matches.

Diego Costa (10.6) watchers will be paying close attention to his performance against City tonight to see if he can turn his strong underlying promise into an equivalent Fantasy showing. Over his last six, he’s had more close range efforts than any other player, but has only scored twice.

Two goals and the same tally of assists over the same period suggests the 27.6%-owned Eden Hazard (10.2) cannot be overlooked either.

Elsewhere, Liverpool visit a Stoke City side seemingly happy to see out the season in mid-table, scoring just once and conceding five times in their last four.

Motivated by a Champions League spot, the Reds’ expected front three of Roberto Firmino (8.5), Divock Origi (6.2) and Philippe Coutinho (8.4) all look like strong captaincy prospects, with the latter the most likely to compete for the top. The 23.1%-owned Brazilian schemer goes into tonight’s Anfield clash with Bournemouth buoyed by his goal and assist against Everton in Gameweek 30.

Strong form should also help Jamie Vardy (10.0) gather votes, having registered his fifth goal in as many matches at home to Sunderland last night.

While his Gameweek 32 trip to Everton looks like a far trickier clash, his prospects are boosted by a set of injuries and suspensions to the host’s backline. Already without Seamus Coleman and Ramiro Funes Mori through long-term injury, Ronald Koeman’s side will also have to do without the suspended Ashley Williams, who received a red card against Manchester United.

Romelu Lukaku’s (10.4) chances of top spot may take a dent given Leicester’s strong form of five straight wins since Craig Shakespeare took charge.

However, with five shots against Jose Mourinho’s troops last night and 13 Goodison Park goals, the Toffees’ talisman can never be ignored for the armband on home soil.

His hefty 45.7% ownership also makes him a player that is arguably too dangerous to overlook in terms of overall rankings.

The London Stadium looks the likeliest venue for alternative captaincy candidates. Swansea are the visitors, but both have porous defences: West Ham have shipped 13 goals in their last six, while Paul Clement’s side have conceded nine times over the same time frame.

Andy Carroll (6.3) should be the front runner in our latest poll among Slaven Bilic’s side, courtesy of five goals in his last eight. For the visitors, Gylfi Sigurdsson (7.8) is another that looks primed to turn strong underlying form into returns. He’s registered 20 goal attempts without scoring over his last five, ahead of tonight’s visit of Spurs to south Wales.

If Fernando Llorente (6.4), the Swans’ top scorer with 11 goals, is fit he looks another inviting differential armband option. However, the Spaniard remains a doubt for the Spurs clash after already missing two league matches with an ankle injury.

The Captain Poll is now live in the middle column on your homepage on desktop, or via the slide-in menu on mobile and tablet under Recent Comments.

We will be back to check in on progress in the poll ahead of the Gameweek 31 deadline when we deliver our “Captain Sensible” article, offering an analysis of the results and the statistics behind the leading contenders.

Does anyone else feel as though the fixtures of United and Palace and form of Middlesbrough are disincentives to bring them in? Some of the other big players have great matches over that weekend as well. Currently I don't know how heavily I will focus on the DGWers for that weekend...

Yeah but DGW.. You'll be loading players with dgw in your team at the end.

Agree. Gibson might score 8+ but beyond that I won't go for Boro players, de Gea and Valencia from United, while Palace offer Zaha as a decent enabler. Not hot on Ibra at the moment, especially with their schedule.

am so wary of united with their Europa league push, the further they move away from that top 4 spot , the more inclined jose will be to field a weakened team in the league and they dropped more points last night

I'll load DGW players in at the end when the fixtures make sense. A DGW for Alexis against Sunderland and Stoke is much better than a DGW for Ibra against City and Burnley away. Zaha makes a bit of sense because he is cheap, but Liverpool and Spurs are tough matches.

If you still have your WC, adding some Man U, Palace, and Boro players makes sense. Plan to use my WC the week after it.

I have 2 Boro and 1 United at the moment. I don't see myself getting any more. Unless I take a load of mescalin and convince myself Negredo is a good option.

Same conundrum here. Surreal and weird. Just a note; Vardy did play 100 minutes in two weeks during IB, and was subbed Saturday with then minutes remaining played all 90 yesterday and Leicester has a sunday match so not so sure he is rested, more likely that he starts and then subbed around 65-70 is my thinking. Also, result today could mean that they are just 6 points or so above relegation forcing Shakespeare to utilise his best player, but that is ifs and maybe, i know. Not an easy task to solve, this

      1. Il Papera
        • 9 Years
        8 years, 10 months ago

Yeah, I've been looking at Leicester fixtures though, and decided I'd prefer Lukaku v Leicester with one eye on the CL and Burnley, than Vardy's Everton and Palace away, given how resolute they've been lately.

So, I think it's gota be Vardy to Aguero for GW32, Lukaku to Ibra GW34 to Kane GW36 onwards.

I know this question may have been answered multiple times already but.. Who on earth do you get rid of for Ibra between Lukaku and Vardy?.. Vardy could he be rested with the Champions League in mind? on current form he's the better of the two obviously. Though their fixtures do take a turn now, not disastrously but not great either.. Everton's aren't to shabby, really undecided. Feels like one of those decisions that whatever way you go it'll be the wrong one lol.

    Williams + Vardy -> Aguero/Ibra + Valencia/Bailly/Gibson.

Would you do it? Also which pair in? Could be any combination.

Wont do anything before the last day, just gathering some thoughts.

Yeah, could be a big haul. If I go for Ibra instead of Kun that means one more dgw player. Meh, I dont know. You reckon Bailly is nailed now, right?

Is Negredo really a bad option for GW34 (bou, SUN) ? Surely better than Benteke or any other forward in that price range?

Benteke all day long for me. Playing in a more attacking side, and the way he took his goal against Chelsea shows he is feeling more confident

Benteke against Liverpool away and Spurs at home?

Yep. Admittedly Spurs game is tough, but Benteke will be up for it against Liverpool and to me they still look far from solid

Fair enough. I suppose Boro could be almost relegated by GW34 in which case I'd probably leave Negredo. But if they're still fighting I'd probably take him

I'm hoping Negredo does something between now and gw34 then swapping for Gabbi for his double against Arsenal

No matter what attacking stats you look at, Boro are in the bottom 2 of all of them. Negredo is hardly lighting it up either. 1 goal in 6, less than 3 attempts per game.

However, the "saving grace" - if there is one - is that Boro scored a total of 4 goals in the reverse fixtures and Negredo got 3 assists.

On that basis, he might be worth a punt.

A lot of people seem to be forgiving Aguero for the way he burnt many of us earlier in the season. I still can't find myself to trust him.

It´s different now me thinks. He is nailed now, and City creates a lot of chances. Jesus can be a negative factor around DGW, but as for now I see him as a pricey but good option. Still, prefer Kane when fit. City have Hull home and then Southampton away, Hull is leaky away and Southampton not the tightest defence so he´ll have his chances.

He burned us half a season. That's nothing compared to what he has done for us since he joined City.

I know that Leicester are flying, and that Vardy has had decent results, but unless you have him already I don't get the clamber to get him in.

Only twice has he scored more than goal in a game this season, and with Leciester safe surely a rotation risk due to CL??

Conversely the way people are talking about Ibra, it is the 2nd coming of Ade Akinbyi! On pens, all Manure attacks go through him, and he is getting opportunities. This combined with the fact that if Manure win their game in hand they are a maximum of 2 pts off 4th, means they will still be competing in the League - at least in short-term.

He will take it one game at a time. If City beats Chelsea, Pool and Arsenal win what they should and if United lose against Chelsea, I can see him throwing in the towel. But as I said, one game at a time.

Eleven consecutive matches last year he scored, he did. But you can make an argument for both cases, that´s for sure. United do have Sunderland next, and you can always take him out again if their motivation turns to EL, to maybe Kane or Kun perhaps?

MODDAF#%§ER! Here I thought Soton had a DGW in GW 34... Been holding on to their players for quite some time, but if they end up having their DGW in 36 it was all for nothing; as I still have my WC.

Probably been asked a million times, but when do we know when all the missing matches are played? Appreciate it 🙂

Hey guys, how's my team looking. Do I double up Spurs mid, upgrade defence or ditch Phillips? Which option is best:

    A - Phillips > Eriksen
    B - Phillips > Sane
    C - Phillips > Coutinho
    D - Brunt > Bavies

    Heaton - Pickford
    Mawson - McAuley - Valencia - Brunt - Amat
    Sanchez - Siggie - Alli - King - Phillips
    Vardy - Lukaku - Carroll

depends on budget? in this order Tadic, Redmond Ward-prowse

I think everyone will be asking this question come gw35

Depending on budget and structure. Redmond could be a straight swap from king (or another player in that price bracket), but could also be a downgrade from lets say Siggy, if you want more cash to fund Ibra, Kun etc. Isolated, i will say Tadic, but it depends on your team as a whole. Maybe you can list it, then it´s easier to give more concrete advise
