Less than 48 hours after the last round of fixtures came to a close, our usual pre-Gameweek members article focusing on the armband conundrum comes around once again.

First off, we check in with the main contenders in the Captain Poll, then delve into the Opta data and current Rate My Team rankings before suggesting some differentials for your consideration.

The Captain Poll

A home encounter with Hull City earns Sergio Aguero top spot in this week’s Captain Poll.

Having struck for the fourth time in five appearances during the midweek loss at Chelsea, the Manchester City striker has been backed by over 31% of voters against a Tigers defence that has conceded more goals (35) than any other on their travels.

Dele Alli is regarded as the Argentine’s main rival, with more than 25% choosing the Spurs midfielder for a home clash with Watford.

Twelve goals and four assists in his last 14 appearances makes very convincing reading as Alli prepares to host a Hornets’ backline hampered by injury and suspension.

His team-mate Christian Eriksen claims fourth place, with 7% of the votes – a goal and assist away to Swansea City helped the Dane to a 13-point return, his ninth double-figure tally of the season.

The fit-again Harry Kane was not included in the Poll as he was injured at the time of publication.

Earning just over 9% backing, Zlatan Ibrahimovic splits the Spurs midfield pair in third spot as he makes his way to basement-dwellers Sunderland.

Having returned from suspension to fire United’s late equaliser against Everton, the veteran visits a defence that sits second-bottom in terms of shots conceded inside the box in front of their own supporters.

Alexis Sanchez and Romelu Lukaku both collect 5% of the votes despite failing to score in each of their last two league outings.

The Chilean travels to Selhurst Park on Monday evening seeking a seventh double-figure return on the road, with 12 of his 18 goals arriving outside of the Emirates this term.

Lukaku, meanwhile, has scored in each of his last six home appearances, totalling ten goals over that stretch, ahead of a visit from in-form Leicester City.

Only 1% are considering Jamie Vardy, who has netted five times in as many Gameweeks ahead of his trip to Goodison.

Meanwhile, Chelsea pair Eden Hazard and Diego Costa have been backed by a mere 2% and 1% respectively for a favourable trip to Bournemouth.

Hazard has served up a goal or assist in five of his last six, though Costa’s two strikes in eight highlights why he’s second only to the injured Sadio Mane for transfers-out since Tuesday’s deadline passed.

    Sanchez.Alli.Siggy.Hazard.Tadic
    Llorente.Origi

    Baines.Mawson.Crouch.Foster
(Anyone see any potential fires I'm missing.)

    P.s
Starting Llorente...thinking he may start tomorrow. Or is it too much of a risk him coming on for only 10/20 at the end? Should I play 451 and bring in Baines?

-8 seems a lot, and whilst Aguero has a good fixture this week and next he really comes into hos own from GW35 onward.
If Lukaku is a FT then deffo go with him as Evertons next two fixtures suit him well.
Then maybe FT Lukaku out in GW34 for Ibra, before changing Ibra out for Aguero in GW35.

Team is looking good for gw32. Probably Firmino to Eriksen if Coutinho confirm not playing.
I would skip Sanchez and go for Walcott instead for Antonio, downgrade Baines to Gabriel if he's playing in DGW 35/36.

    Gylfi Sigurdsson

    - Central attacking midfielder
    - Takes all set pieces
    - Takes penalties
    - Next three fixtures: West Ham (away) poor defensive record home + away, Watford (away) huge injury crisis especially in defence, Stoke (home) very poor away record especially in defence
    - Almost invulnerable to rotatation
    - Highly ranked in Jonty's goals imminent table
    - Motivated by Swansea's good chance of escaping relegation

I am torn between him and Walcott in my wildcard choice.
If I don't take Walcott now it will result in a -4 to bring him in later, for sure.

So, is Siggy worth the +4 over Walcott in the next two weeks before I have to change to capitalise on the Arsenal DGW?

I would be tempted by Llorente to Origi (a bit of a punt, as someone has to score Liverpools goals and he does OK when he plays).
Others have posted about Carroll (4 OK fixtures) or even Benteke (dgw 34, but tough fixtures)

Has to be Vardy right?! Big champo game next week so talks he may get limited minutes !! Best case he plays Everton away.... He was always just a few week punt. Fancy Costa to get returns v Bournemouth.

It depends whether you have any up and coming transfers in mind. I have my WC so will happily use it in a couple of weeks time to shift Aguero to Ibra for the DGW. If you have other plans then maybe more efficient to just get Ibra now.

Origi's is similar in price to Carroll, but it feels like he has been more consistent in the games he has played, whereas Carroll feels like an injury waiting to happen. Both have reasonable fixtures in the coming weeks.
Going for Origi as Liverpool should create chances for him.

Benteke is more expensive and is really just for DGW34, but both games are against tough opposition, and you have to get past Arsenal and Leicester to get there. In his favour is Palace's recent form though.

As I say though, ultimately for me I preferred to dump the extra 2m into other players and go with a front two.

Good luck with whatever way you go though. 🙂

Trying to pick a captain for this week. Got Lanzini (SWA) & Eriksen (WAT) in mind.
Lanzini seems to be doing well at home, + Swansea are conceding a lot.
Eriksen's consistently doing pretty decent + Watford are under strength.

    Which should I go for?

From the choices given I would be looking at Eriksen.
Watford defence is under par, whereas Swansea's defence may have taken a lot criticism after the Spurs game and they may be focusing on not conceding.

Probably better choices out there though, but not sure if they're in your team (Alli, Aguero, Lukaku, Ibra).

I agree; Sanchez made it through my WC to stay in the team.
But looking at recent form, and fixtures, you have to say that the four other players just pip Sanchez (we're banking on him recapturing his previous form, against a weaker team), especially as Wenger seems to want to stick him out wide on the wing.

To be fair though, my WC team had all five of these buggers in (and Walcott) so I avoided having to make a decision on who to cut.

I faced this same choice earlier today and went with B, with a plan to get Ibra back in for GW34.
Decision based on gut feel though, so ymmv. 🙂

    Contemplating these hits.

Q1) Start Robertson, or Coleman > Valencia -4?
Q2) Llorente > Origi -4? Capoue (flagged) only backup.

Robles (Leicester, home) or Pickford (Man U, away)
I'm really stuck, any help appreciated 🙂

Probably Robles. Leicester won't be flat out. Pickford might get a few save points, but United might not get many shots on target.

Very good point. My only concern is that Leicester have been on fire of late. But I guess it all changes when they play away for once.

For me its between Alli and Hazard. Definitely not Vardy in my opinion.
Alli is probably the better option because
1.) He's on fire (good form)
2.) Excellent fixture. (At home and against a dodgy defence due to injuries.)

Probs Hazard, but Alli also looks good
