After a five month long winter break the new season of Norwegian’s top flight football kicked off with a bang with two Gameweeks within a few days.

With Gameweek 3 starting on Saturday there is little respite for the clubs, and more importantly, us Fantasy managers. Gameweek 2 saw a lot of frustration as key assets were either benched or taken off early with the tight schedule in mind.

FFScout League Standings

The FFS community has shown an overwhelming interest for this fringe league, with 476 already having entered the FFScout main league (3769-1041).

On top with 135 points we find Norwegian Red (Oieiao) – perhaps fittingly – an Englishman.

In the FFScout  H2H league 16 managers have won both their matchups, with Ned Ryerson and Riski Virksomhet being joint top thanks to their superior points tally. Ned Ryerson features again on top of Phil Dagger’s Last Man Standing.

Stock Check

Ahead of looking at the risers and fallers from the two Gameweeks so far it is worth checking out Goktugerce‘s excellent statistical review of the first two Gameweeks, looking at team statistics, average positions and expected goals & assists. Meanwhile, Niemi took an in depth look at the good and bad players so far in every position.

Rising

Vegar Hedenstad (6.5) – Two clean sheets and an assist. On some set pieces.

Mike Jensen (10.5) – Two assists. Easy on the eye, which means he will be a favourite of ‘the man in the stand’. Already has 4 bonus points.

Milan Jevtovic (7.6) – A goal and an assist. A possible injury to Elbasan Rashani means Jevtovic could be nailed on going forward.

Nicklas Bendtner (12.5) – Two goals. The Dane is yet to find the groove but nonetheless has managed to find the back of the net in both games. Will score a lot of goals purely because of the sheer amount of chances Rosenborg create every game.

Sigurd Rosted (5.6) – Two goals. Not only is he a massive threat from set pieces, Sarpsborg play 4 out of their next 6 fixtures at home. Last season they kept an impressive 9 clean sheets in 15 games at home.

Patrick Mortensen (6.6) – Two goals and an assist. Sarpsborg have scored the joint most goals so far and the fixtures are favourable.

Gilbert Koomson (7.5) – Dubbed ’Siggy of Eliteserien’ by some of the FFS posters, Koomson showed some of his potential by scoring a penalty in GW2. The top assister from last season is yet to assist this campaign but that looks like a matter of time.

Bendik Bye (5.5) – Two goals and an assist. After a potential season ending injury for strike parter Ole Sveen, Bye should have done enough to nail down a permanent starting place.

Ifeanyi Matthew (6.1) – A goal and an assist. 4 bonus points already, including full points in a game his team lost.

Ibrahim Shuaibu (5.0) – Two goals and two assists. Incredible form and value.

Frederik Gytkjær (7.5) – Three goals. Mistaken for his brother who was the league’s top scorer last season, a lot of casuals have enjoyed the early investment of the younger Gytkjær.

Ohi Omoijuanfo (7.0) – Hat-trick in the first home game. 3 of the next 4 fixtures are at home.

Marco Tagbajumi (7.6) – Two goals. Going somewhat under the radar compared to his expensive strike partner Marcus Pedersen. Favourable fixtures.

Jylian Ryerson (4.5) – One goal. Listed as a cheap defender, Ryerson has played both games in an advanced midfield position. Will probably drop a bit deeper once Adegbenro is back. Ryerson is a jack of all trades and due to Viking’s extremely thin squad we could hope to see him OOP for longer parts of the season.

Falling

Ghayas Zahid (10.5) – Tipped by many to be in contention for player of the year, Zahid has nothing to show for so far. Consistent returns are vital for players with a premium price tag. Does however face the bottom team at home in GW3 so those patient enough to keep could finally be rewarded.

Mohammed Abdellaoue (9.4) – An impressive pre season was followed by an anonymous opening GW before being ruled out for GW2 with an injury. Is very injury prone.

Lars Vilsvik (6.0) – Viewed as a full back with big attacking threat, the only thing Vilsvik has produced so far is an own goal. The fixtures are however still good.

Rafik Zekhnini (8.5) & Fredrik Nordkvelle (9.0) – Although the former registered an assist after coming on as a sub, he was benched due poor work ethic in the previous match. The latter is yet to return attacking points.

Samuel Adegbenro (7.5) – After missing the first game through illness, Adegbenro returned to training ahead of GW2. But he missed the second game as well, and now await four of the toughest games Viking will play all season.

Gameweek 3 Picks

Scoring the winner in his debut game, Bård Finne (9.1) will look to continue his good home form when Vålerenga welcome the bottom team Sandefjord. With Abdellaoue being a doubt for Sunday, Finne might benefit from a central striker role.

When it comes to attempts, midfielder Ifeanyi Matthew (6.1) is second only to Bendik Bye with 4 shots per game. The Nigerian will certainly fancy his chances at home against what currently is the joint worst defence in the league.

Marco Tagbajuni (7.6) is on top for average xG (expected goals) per shot. Although a small sample size, this suggests he has so far been on the right place at the right time. Up against a shambolic Aalesund defence, the rather budget friendly striker could potentially even be trusted with the armband.

Have both Fernandes and McDermott lost their starting places? If so, should I get one out for Leciejewski for a hit? Which one?

McDermott injured, Fernandes lost his place. Not 100% sure McDermott will get his place back straight away, but he's out for this GW I think.

That was my other option but with Leciejewski being my main GK I didn't want to combine him with Linde. Ruud is certainly due so will be hiding behind the sofa for his games.

As a Viking supporter I don't think Adegbenro deserved any bonus points as he didn't do much before the goal, but to be honest there weren't any stand out players besides Haugen.

Good day in the away end after all. Brann are such a boring, cynical team. Viking had lots of possession, corners etc., but barely created any chances. Pushed Brann back at the end though, although Brann got a couple of half decent chances to go 2-0 up.

Viking does look like a good team, although they lack real quality in attack and have a horrible GK. Adegbenro and Ryerson the standout players both in real life and for Fantasy IMO. Worth noting that Ryerson has played as one of the two central midfielders, not as an attacking midfielder as he did in the first 2 GWs. Not getting in those good attacking positions, but should still pick up bonus points and many the odd goal/assist. Appiah does look half decent, but better options at that price right now.

I wouldn't consider anything else than Rolantsson, Leceijewski and Haugen from Brann right now. They have a solid defence and are a cynical team, and they will get a lot of clean sheets. Rolantsson OOP and should play most matches, but he has competition in Vega. Keep an eye on that one. Haugen involved in everything offensively and on free kicks, but he's a CM and Brann aren't exactly free scoring. Also often assisting the assister. It's a hard one. Pricey, but will pick up points consistently I think.

Braaten is also a pretty good option at 6.6. He is a tricky one to judge though, as he has never been a prolific player, and he is well known to have some amazing matches followed by dreadful matches.

Exactly. They aren't scoring loads of goals though and Brann are a cynical team. He's not a player I would rely on scoring regular points, but he's decently priced.

Mostly agree with you except for haugen. I have had him since gw 4 and I have just sold him after today's double digit score. He is overpriced and Brann doesn't score many goals. There are also better alternatives at the moment, for example adegbenro, jevtovic, svendsen and they are all cheaper. I will reassess haugen after Brann's tough fixtures though.
Their defence is golden though, especially rollentson.

We'll see. I do agree he's cheaper, but with the money floating around and the lack of consistent point scorer I do think it's possible to own a midfield of Haugen, Jevtovic/Helland, Svendsen and Adegbenro. Maybe all 5 as well.

As I said earlier, Rolantsson subbed of early could be a blessing for owners. Bit of a non-assist though, just a side way pass to Haugen. Austbø is such a horrible keeper, should never have let that shot in either. Anyway, can't complain when I get 9 points.

Rolantsson being subbed off early is one of the reasons I went for him a few rounds ago. I checked last years matches to see of Nilsen had a tendency to take off his players around 60-70 minutes, and he certainly does so in most matches. The thing is that he will only make pre-60 minute substitutions if his team is already behind, i.e. when the clean sheet is already gone.

Maybe it's time for a WC now? I want Adegbenro and Ryerson in my team against Sandefjord. Could have another GK crisis if Bugge Pettersen starts for Strømsgodset. I also think it's time to get a Molde defender (Gregersen) if they start with the same backline, the defence looks fairly settled now.

I'm thinking the same. The problem I have with WC'ing next GW is that Molde is the only team I want to load up on for their fixture, but their next 4 away games are terrible (Brann, Odd, S08 and Godset). RBK also has 3 of their next 4 games at home, so getting rid of Bendtner to distribute the money to the rest of the team is a bit daunting.

I'm just doing Haugen > Adegbenro right now and then I'll sleep on the decision until I've seen Rosenborg play.

Molde could get a result against anyone, but yeah I get your point. Personally I already own Sigurdarson and Svendsen though.

Not confident in my Rosenborg players right now. Only got Midtsjø and Hedenstad, I feel like I should own at least 1 from the front 3. I guess I'll reassess on Monday.

Delighted with 27 from 4...not that much of a difference that 24 from 5...

                    Front 8:
                    Helland Midtsjo Svendsen Trondsen Njie
                    Tagbajumi Omo Shuaibu

Early thinking, who to leave the team for Adegbenro? Njie has bad fixtures coming up. Trondsen seems to have lost his purple patch. Money not an issue.

Trondsen IMO. Monitor on Monday before subbing out though I'd say.

                      Njie too good value currently.

                    a) Coutinho to Eriksen

                    b) Keep Coutinho vs Southampton

It's a nice move, but it's not necessarily pressing this week. May have bigger fires to put out if any injuries.

Beyond having more info and knowledge etc. , are there any specific reasons to save wildcard ? E.g. Any DGWs coming up in first half of season we know of ?

Rosenborg will probably ask for one game to get postponed due to CL qualifiers. Last year this happened right after the break.

Haugesund already got their game against Vålerenga postponed. I think it was originally scheduled to be played in the summer, but will now be played in October instead.

The first wildcard has to be used between GW1-17. You have to activate it before GW17 then, right? Not after?

The summer transfer window opens after GW17, so it would have been great to have the wildcard ready by then. I fear we might be forced to use our second WC early due to players leaving and arriving in the summer.

That was my assumption. No point waiting too long either given the break/transfers.

I think I'm looking at GW9 right now. All games on the same day so should have the lineups available and that is the gw where rotation is very possible. A bit of a fixture shift for RBK and Brann too.

I am thinking of this WC at the moment:
                        Leciejewski(NEW) - Kongshavn(NEW)
                        Rolantsson - Moe - Ryerson(NEW) - Gregersen/Gabrielsen(NEW) - Hedenstad/Meling(NEW)
                        Haugen ("NEW")- Svendsen(NEW) - Adegbenro - Jevtovic - Åsen
                        Finne (NEW)- Sigurdarson (NEW)- Ibrahim

                        0.8-1.6 ITB

Out: Rossbach, Fernandes - Ruud, Vilsvik, Rosted - Midtsjø, Heintz - Bendtner, Ohi

Finne on a WC? I did notice the shift in Vålerenga's fixtures though. Also think Ruud might be worth keeping. Would upgrade Ibrahim on a WC personally. I own him myself and been quite happy with his returns, but I do think there are better options for 1.0-2.0 more.
