An largely uninspired encounter, marked by a moment of brilliance from Emre Can. Liverpool’s 1-0 victory was priceless, from a Fantasy perspective, it was notable only for Philippe Coutinho’s early exit. Here’s the Stock Check from the final match of Gameweek 35.

In Decline

Philippe Coutinho
The Brazilian went into Monday’s clash as part of just over a million FPL squads, having been acquired by more than 50,000 new Fantasy Premier League owners ahead of Liverpool’s Vicarage Road visit.

In addition, Coutinho claimed the armband for 122,000 managers who had big expectations having seen the midfielder score in four of his last five Gameweek starts.

But his night lasted less than ten minutes before he suffered a dead leg in a clash with Watford’s Adrian Mariappa; a collision which ultimately led to Coutinho succumbing to the injury on 12 minutes.

His departure saw the re-introduction of Adam Lallana following a five Gameweek absence, but that will have been little consolation for Coutinho’s owners.

Jurgen Klopp confirmed post-match that the injury should not represent a major setback…

“He has a dead leg, hopefully it’s not too serious but of course it’s really painful and no chance [he could continue]. Everybody could see he tried hard, but no chance.”

While he will be expected to be back in contention for the visit of Southampton in Gameweek 36, Coutinho’s single point return at Watford, coupled with any minor doubt of his participation against the Saints, will undoubtedly accelerate sales.

He is already hovering outside the top five for transfers out, with 22,000+ jettisoning Coutinho so far, with traffic moving to both Alexis Sanchez and Eden Hazard in particular.

Roberto Firmino is not far behind his team-mate and compatriot. He went into the Watford encounter having returned in each of his last five Gameweeks, producing two goals and three assists.

Despite that form, his Monday night blank will exacerbate recent sales, with Firmino already ranked fourth behind Coutinho, Son Heung-min and Wilfried Zaha among FPL midfielders.

Quite simply, with Wildcards active, double Gameweek assets are dominant and despite Liverpool’s obliging run-in, both Coutinho and Firmino look set to become unlikely differentials for those without the option of an end of season refresh.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Really surprised how all the WC teams here managed such as a high team value.
This is what I've got (on WC), with 0.0 itb

    Cech Caballero
    Gabriel Holgate Alonso Yoshida Stephens
    Alli Sanchez Hazard King Albrighton
    Kane Jesus Gabbi

    - Wanted to get a Spurs def, and swap out Gabriel with a more guaranteed Arsenal def. Can't seem to fit it in!
Cheapest Spurs would be Davies (4.9), still not guaranteed seeing Rose is coming back very soon.
    - Thinking of ridding Gabbi for a cheaper option to make way for a more solid defense and maybe an upgrade on Albrighton, but doesn't seem to have a reasonably decent 3rd striker option. Doubt Anichebe will score.

    What do you guys think?

Reckon Caballero will earn a couple of CS points from both Leicester and WBrom though, and it's unlikely that Pickford will (in GW37).
Couldn't think of how the 0.5 would boost the attack, though it could help me get Davies.

Keep in mind that a lot of people will have taken quite a few hits along the way to get transfers done quickly and build up their squad value. So high squad values will have come at a cost in many cases.

What kinda state is Man Utd defence in?

Considering they'll probably need to 100% prioritise Europa (thereby saving their three fit defenders for that - Valencia, Blind & Darmian).

So who will play league games?

    Yonug - Carrick - Tuanzebe (CB/LB/RB?) - McTominay?

    A question of strategy.

My ML rival is 31 points behind me. He used his wildcard last week and got Davies and Gabriel.
I am wild-carding this week and I want to nullify his points. I however am doubtful on Davies and Gabriel's starting time. I cannot go for more expensive options like Vetonghen and Monreal because of terrible TV.

Should I pick Davies and Gabriel to counter him?

hmm. I don't think so somehow. I'd be less worried about the defenders' contribution to chipping away at your lead (potentially) than about the front 7 your rival has; make sure you have key bases (Sanchez; Haz; Kane arguably) covered, and then differentiate from him in other ways (e.g. he has Alli, you go Eriksen). Defence is such a lottery atm that I, and a lot of others, have totally gutted it (see below) for the front 7.

    Morning all!

Got a bit of a quandary - is it worth taking a -8 to get another defender in for Barragan here? Thinking of getting Cahill as a differential as most rivals have Alonso. Will probably do it anyway next week.. will I get pay back from the MID game?

    Pick / Henn
Holgate Yoshi Stones(yf) / Bailly (yf) Barragan
    Eriksen Alli San(c)hez Haz King
    Kane Jesus / Anichebe
(done Tekkers to Jesus and Zaha to King)

Is it better to do the -8 this week? Or take the -4 next? Will be bringing Willy in for Henn next week too. I guess I'd be relying on whoever I bring in getting a clean sheet + bonus to break even, which is a big ask for a defender.

    Thanks!

On WC, GTG as things stand? (DGW 36* & 37")

    Cech*" (Willy")
    Monreal*", Alonso", Yoshi*", (Stephens*", Holgate)
Sanchez (C)*", Haz", Ali", King (Morrison")
    Kane", Costa", Jesus"

Don't really have bench headache this week, which is good at left 40 points on bench combining last two gameweeks... BB for 37 maybe not as strong as it could be but first XI very happy with.
