A moment of brilliance from Alexis Sanchez unlocks Southampton at St Mary’s, the Gunners deliver a second clean sheet over Double Gameweek 36, but the Saints’ Manolo Gabbiadini fails to find the net again.

On the Rise

Alexis Sanchez
The most captained player for Gameweek 36, Sanchez’s opener in the 2-0 triumph was just reward for the patience of his 27% FPL ownership after a dire run of recent form.

It’s two goals in eight league outings now for the Arsenal man, who extended his lead at the top of the FPL standings after also claiming maximum bonus points at St Mary’s for an overall 14-point Gameweek 36 return.

The stats are still troubling – Sanchez scored with his only shot on target over clashes with Man United and Southampton.

But the determination to net that excellent solo effort suggests his armband potential shouldn’t be dismissed as the Gunners prepare for another pair of fixtures, with Arsene Wenger’s side travelling to Stoke City before entertaining Sunderland in midweek.

Rob Holding
The summer signing was one of only three Arsenal defenders, along with Nacho Monreal and Kieran Gibbs, to start both double Gameweek fixtures. He ended as their top-scoring outfield asset, earning bonus points from each of his clean sheets.

Holding had featured in just one league match from Gameweek 4 onwards prior to the double, but the recent switch to three at the back seems to have boosted his prospects and elevated him ahead of Gabriel in the pecking order.

Despite the absence of Laurent Koscielny, Wenger was able to recall Shkodran Mustafi and once again bench the Brazilian – much to the chagrin of the 51,000+ who acquired Gabriel prior to last week.

It remains to be seen whether he’ll retain his role once Wenger has a fully fit quota of defenders to choose from, but there’s no denying that the 4.0-priced Holding was one of the stand-out performers over the Gameweek.

The former Bolton man chalked up 15 points and has collected over 14,000 new owners in the last 24 hours alone ahead of Double Gameweek 37 and a final day home match against Everton.

Petr Cech
Yet again, goalkeepers prevailed in a double Gameweek.

First it was Stoke’s Lee Grant (13 points in Gameweek 27) and then United’s David de Gea served up 17 points in Gameweek 34.

The Gunners’ top-scoring player on 16 points, Cech was second only to the Saints’ Fraser Forster, who earned 17 points thanks to his spot-kick save at Anfield on Sunday.

Yet the Arsenal stopper was the more consistent option, earning a clean sheet, one save point and a single bonus point in both of his appearances.

Having returned at least one save point in 14 successive league outings, Cech, at 5.3, remains a strong option between the posts for those favourable final three fixtures.

In Decline

Manolo Gabbiadini
Drafted in by over 108,000 FPL managers for Southampton’s matches with Liverpool and the Gunners, the Italian proved a bitter disappointment.

Gabbiadini scored four times in his first three league outings but has mustered just a single assist in the subsequent six as Claude Puel’s side struggle for a cutting edge.

Despite boasting a Double Gameweek 37 – away to Middlesbrough and at home to Man United – the winter signing is now facing a backlash, with over 12,000 owners parting company since last Friday’s deadline.

Having failed to find the net in four of their last five league matches, there’s a growing concern that the Saints are now at least halfway to the beach.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain
Revitalised by a recent stint at wing-back in the Gunners’ new 3-4-2-1 formation, Oxlade-Chamberlain’s pair of assists at home to Man United suggested he could prosper as a budget-friendly option for the upcoming Double Gameweek 37.

Indeed, over 15,000 FPL managers had already acquired his services with one eye on the remaining matches only to watch him limp out of action before the break last night.

Post-match, Wenger admitted he was uncertain on the extent of Oxlade-Chamberlain’s hamstring injury.

But with the FA Cup final later this month, the Gunners boss may look to manage the midfielder’s fitness ahead of that Wembley clash against Chelsea.

Just checking you guys think this is my best move, on BB for a hit:

    Cech Pickford
    Kompany Monreal Huth Stephens Blind
    San(c)hez Alli Eriksen King Albrighton
    Kane Vardy Gabbi

    Blind & Alli > Alonso & Sane -4

Absolutely - that looks like a solid set of moves!

My first season. Chasing leader in ML, 30 points behind.

    My team:
    Pick, Caballero
    Yosh, Stephens, Alonso, Monreal, Davies
    Haz, Sanchez, King, Sane, Alli
    Jesus, Kane, Gabb

    His team:
    Jaku, Caballero
    Cedric, Yosh, Alonso, Monreal, Davies
    Sanchez, Ox, Alli, Pedro, Abrighton
    Jesus, Kane, Gabb

Considering a -8 or -12 in last win-or-bust try to catch him. Please give me your suggestions. Sanchez out? Kane out? KDB in? etc...

What about chips? Are these the squads without any transfers for this week? If this is the main ML for both of you, he might wait for you to make the transfers first. Also what is your money ITB?

0 itb. Neither of us has any chips left. Both have one FT. He has already made one transfer, which I´m guessing was Ox out probably for King.

KdB in will be tough as you will have to remove Sane or Jesus. You will need to go for a differential captain. Hazard is risky (gametime) to captain. I assume your friend would go for Jesus or Sanchez. Unfortunately, it looks good for your friend. However, I believe Sane is a good differential for you. Try captaining him and carry forward your transfer to go for a final dash in GW 38?

Yeah considering it. Also considering kane out for llorente which would allow Sane to KDB. Risky I know but can't catch him without risks. Do you think its possible or 30 points too much at this stage?

      2. kumast
        • 10 Years
        8 years, 7 months ago

He doesn't have haz so thats a differential for me if I keep.

          • 9 Years
          8 years, 7 months ago

I'd probs not do the Llorente move. Like you say that is a big big risk, maybe slightly to big. Shame we have no clue whether Costa will play twice or not.. And yeah I see what you mean with Haz being a differential, maybe hold there then. Wow that's a difficult one for sure lol.. Got me thinking

Alli or King out for someone cheaper then Sane too KDB? or you just stick and hope Haz and Sane do the business for you.

I would suggest that too. Hope to get the gap reduced by Pickford, Haz and Sane and use 2 FTs in GW 38.

As it stands he wins. Dont be timid, go -12 and get differentials. He wont be taking hits.
I d lose Alli, Hazard, Kane and Gabbi. Look at KDB, Ozil , Vardy and Anichebe.

No point worrying about not having cover of certain teams, you need differentials.

I m guessing their captain is Sanchez.

If nothing else he or she will see your team on Friday night and be very scared.

Does the following make sense, for a hit?

    Gabbi + Stones -> Barnes + Azpi/Kompany/Vert

My concern is that Gabbi is due a few goals, and he finally has easy fixtures. But DGW defenders seem to be a lot more attractive!

Would you do it and if yes, which defender?

Hi guys, would appreciate your advice. (Sorry for long post)

I am leading my ML rival by 10 points. I am using BB this gw, he is using his TC this week.
I’d like to cover his defence, and arsenal has good potential next 3 weeks.

    My defence with BB
    Caballero Grant(*)
Davies Alonso Stephens Maguire (*) Holgate

    His defence without BB
    Cech Boruc
Darmian Yoshida Kolarov (Clyne) (Lowton) (im guessing that bench)

    Should I do:
    A) Grant & Maguire > Cech & Holding for -8 (taking a gamble on Holding’s minutes)
    B) Grant & Maguire > Pickford & Yoshida for -8 (safer option with minutes, less points potential and miss out on arsenal coverage)
    C) Grant>Pickford -4 (taking one fewer hit as I don’t believe he will take any hits this week)

Arsenal defense without Kosc? Not worth it for me! I'd say go where the points are and smash him out the park rather than risk the cover element. Kompany a great option, possibly Davies out, then Maguire to Holding if you really want the cover?

      1. King Henry XIV
        • 11 Years
        8 years, 7 months ago

I like the Kompany option, unfortunately have 3x city already though. I wouldn't mind if holding got 1 out of the 2 double gameweeks i think. Even as an Arsenal fan it's hard to think who Wenger might select

    3. Guy Demel's SH
      • 12 Years

C I think. Despite Arsenal keeping clean sheets they haven't scored too well on expected goals against, so their underlying defensive performance isn't great, no way they're guaranteed two clean sheets.

C would at least ship out deadwood for a DGW keeper on your BB.

Really think that's it for ours Spurs assets this season. They looked depleted after the defeat to the mighty hammers. If Chelsea slip up on Friday I reckon they'll bottle it again anyways.

(My main ML rival doesn't have Haz, but a dangerous chaser 30 pts back does!)

    Cech, Willy
    Maguire, Monreal, Alonso, Yoshi, Stephens
Haz, Sanchez (VC), Alli, Sane, King
    Kane (C), Jesus, Anichebe
    (1 FT)

    (Partial repost, thanks LaV)

    2FT 0.2itb BB

    A) Benteke + Gabby to Jesus Anichebe (keeping Kane Eriksen)
    B) Kane + Benteke to Vardy + Jesus

      Having same kind of issue.
A and C seem best options to me.
I'd go A though as I have less faith in Gabbi than I do in Eriksen

Just buying big Vic not very appealing but might be the best move

    Worth the -4 hit?

    King + Kane > Sane + Costa?

    A). Amat & Valencia > Kompany & Monreal (-8)

B, neither Valencia or Monreal are likely to play twice.

Is Kompany the best option? I have unlimited funds to replace Amat with.

Currently have Alonso, Yoshida, Stephens, Valencia

How's everyone doing this bench boost then? Legitimately OR playing Haz/Sanchez/Alonso on the bench? 😀

Captain Alonso seems like a great option though. Had about 4/5 chances to score/assist against Borough. My one worry would be surely Pulis has spotted that diagonal ball and will do something about it??

No doubt in my mind, 6 centre backs will be playing.
