Frustration is the only word for it.

In a compelling season that has tested even the most hardened and experienced Fantasy manager, it seems we are destined to be deprived of a truly satisfying double Gameweek.

So often the pillars that hold up our season finale, we speculate and strategise, whipping ourselves into a frenzy as we conjure visions of big individual hauls and three-figure totals.

Inevitably they rarely live up to our expectations but this season’s double Gameweeks feel flatter than ever, with the past 48 hours proving particularly exasperating.

Friday provided an ominous opening, with Chelsea’s victory wrapping up the title race to introduce rotation concerns, while also providing blanks for both Eden Hazard and Diego Costa.

Mason Holgate’s withdrawal for Everton provided an additional blow for those with the Bench Boost in play – an early marker for Saturday’s misery.

Today’s events included a variety of cruel twists.

Manchester City’s failure to keep a clean sheet, together with Kevin De Bruyne’s blank, provided immediate irritation.

That was followed by Victor Anichebe’s injury and Jordan Pickford’s one-point return, before today’s arch villains – Southampton – provided the coup de grace.

Having shaken off his tinkerman moniker, Saints boss Claude Puel regressed to punish our Bench Boost ambitions with seven changes.

Manolo Gabbiadini and Dusan Tadic were nowhere to be seen, Jack Stephens sat unused on the bench. Then Middleborough played their part, notching an improbable consolation goal to snatch the points from the Southampton assets that remained.

Stoke City’s Peter Crouch then provided a sucker punch, quite literally, to deprive us of an Arsenal clean sheet and apply more salt to today’s wound.

Even this evening’s 12-point contribution from Alexis Sanchez, backed by over 450,000 with the captaincy, was a silver lining that had its cloud, the Chilean limping from the bet365 turf to cast doubt over his start against Sunderland in midweek.

He played on and scored while carrying the knock – an apparent thigh injury, perhaps a dead leg. We now have to hope that Sanchez has the opportunity to run at the Black Cats defence on Tuesday. With him, Gameweek 37 could yet deliver for so many.

Elsewhere today, it was perhaps typical that it was left to a pair of single fixture assets to provide some comfort, Swansea City’s Fernando Llorente and the prolific Josh King of Bournemouth repaying those who kept faith amid the clamour for twin-fixture targets.

The last two days provide a sobering reminder of how we can overplay the potential of a double Gameweek. But we’ll doubtless do it all over again, and also have to remain optimistic on what remains of Gameweek 37.

There are still many fixtures to be played out and, in all likelihood, further unexpected plot twists to come – some of which will hopefully turn more favourably for us Fantasy managers.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Not been on to judge the mood, but I guess a few with BB active will be disgruntled. Thing is, if you're going to load up on Sanchez, KdB and Hazard and have Anichebe, Capoue and Holgate as your bench boost, it's never going to end well.

We have to accept that in preparing for a BB, we have a strong captain option (Sanchez, Jesus etc), then use the remaining funds spread around the squad. A lot of people WC'ed in GW36, so this was easily possible.

Personally, King and Baines came in for me, and I'm just annoyed that I didn't do the Gabbi + Alli > Giroud + Sanchez switch. But then, I've blocked my ML rival and (fingers crossed) it's worked out well so far.

Aren't those players you would normally bench each week? I'm saying we should have players like Fabregas/King as a 5th mid and 6-8m on a 3rd striker.

You're writing this with the benefit of hindsight though, I didn't have kdb but I was bricking it at lunch time when I saw my rival captained him. I think if you don't have sanchez going in to this double then are asking for trouble, but the apparent injury may save a few

That's true, but I would say that I looked at my team and identified Gabbiadini as being the weakest link. Many would be in the same position with him or Anichebe, but then chose to take points hits to get another big hitter in. The teams that have done well, didn't do that, and that was the right call regardless of hindsight.

It's once in a blue moon that Anichebe, Ndidi, Carroll etc were going to score or assist.

Really don't care about my BB.

I bought one of the cheapest GKs, Defenders, and strikers - what can I expect?

Best thing was keeping King. Maybe should have used it earlier but ultimately we're probably talking less than 10 points lost with potentially 3 mòre to play

TC Sanchez = 36 points (12 points earned over a regular captain)

How many genuine benches have earned more than 12 points? They should have if care was taken to have genuine starters in the 5th def/mid, and 3rd striker positions.

            But why should it be?

Swansea at Sunderland gave us Llorente, Siggy (but pricey), Swansea def.
Everton home to Watford gave us Baines, Jagielka and (cough) Holgate. Lukaku was too much funds in a SGW striker to keep.
Southampton at Middlesbrough probably should've been a CS, but Southampton have lost quite a few on the bounce now and rotation.
Bournemouth home to Burnley gave us King, Stanislas, Fraser. Daniels unlucky not to be in the points.

I went all leftfield with a BB in 36 for 21points, and TC this week on Jesus.
Yeah yeah should of gone Alexis TC, but I might get lucky if the mighty sanchez is injured.
So far I got just a few more points by doing things back to front

Well blocking your ML rival is a perfectly valid way to play this game if that's the priority. It takes us out of the loop somewhat on here but nonetheless a successful week can be measured by the success of the blocks for the risk averse.

Even a red arrow can be a perfectly good gameweek in that respect if that's the plan.

Holding and Stephens are good picks and could easily pick up CS's in their next game. But, we do get what we pay for - they're both risks. Anichebe punt was mental with a BB active.

Yeah I know that Chebe punt was crazy but he could easily got 7-11 points with 1 assist or goal and that would be more than any other 4,4 mid could score this gw

Just depends how you class them really. Got 1 point from Stephens & Anichibe combined on BB, but their cheapness can allow a good score from those they enabled.

Dilutes the frustration thinking of them that way.

But you'd have the same score if you hadn't BB, in that case!

You can only captain one of those big hitters. I think a 7m mid + 8m forward does better than a 10.5m mid + 4.5m forward.

There is nowhere near 4.5 million who actually actively play the game. For example, 21.1% of teams still have Zlatan, 12.4% overall captained him this GW. 8.2% captained Lukaku, 7.9% Kun.

That's like top 3-4 percentile of active teams. Somebody here once said he wants to be in the top 1 percentile. I sort of agree with that. It's simply because most of those actives are not good, or are having nightmare luck, or are actually very busy and hence play too casually.

Yes, that last reason was a little excuse for my being outside the active top 1 percentile. 😉

Not too far from it, though, I think it's still doable with minimum effort.

Let's put it this way: top1k is great effort, but where you get in there is very much a matter of luck. Even inside top5k, it's a lot of who gets lucky with punts, who has bad injuries. Like you triple captain Aguero in a home game against a bottom table club and he gets injured after 5 minutes, or you triple captain him in a home game against a bottom table club and he scores 5 goals. I think if you look at the likes of Ville Rönkä who always finish in top5k and often in top1k, which should show you that they're really top in this, they still don't necessarily ever make it in the top10 or even top100.

Wonder why 'camp no no'' has no link to his team so I can see his rank??

Why bother playing Sanchez v Sunderland anyway. Arsenal will walk it. Might as well see if 4th place is still obtainable for the EVE match, and play him then if necessary. They still have the FA cup to consider.

Exactly!! Surely Sunderland the one game to start him on the bench. If it is a dead leg may be out anyway.

Because Alexis is a top pro with a top attitude. If he's fit he'll want to play and will demand to play.

No such thing ad "why bother" in his world.

No cuz u ommit that there's 5 full days between SUN & EVE so no need to rest & rotate. And that's not to mention 3 other things:

      1. Sanchez is a starved warrior and like Wakey says, he will always want to play and he's the only who will decide whether he will play or not. It's not his coach who will decide. It's him and only him just like only he decided to get out of the Stoke game once he had killed it.
      2. The Cup final is 6 days after EVE. So, there's absolutely no need to rotate cuz there's enough days between all remaining games.
      3. Arsenal are still in it to clinch the 4th CL spot at the detriment of Liverpool AS LONG AS THEY WIN THE SUNDERLAND GAME. So it basically becomes impossible for Sanchez not to start against SUN.

Wrapped up my ML in the last couple weeks

10 behind to 85 ahead in 2 weeks

Thinking of punting on the likes of

    Sturridge
    Mich
    JT for the banter

Oh dear, Gabbi not even in the squad, Holgate off at the half, Stephens on the bench, Anichebe and Sanchez flags, story of my year really, tipping I'm not in that boat alone though
