Frustration is the only word for it.

In a compelling season that has tested even the most hardened and experienced Fantasy manager, it seems we are destined to be deprived of a truly satisfying double Gameweek.

So often the pillars that hold up our season finale, we speculate and strategise, whipping ourselves into a frenzy as we conjure visions of big individual hauls and three-figure totals.

Inevitably they rarely live up to our expectations but this season’s double Gameweeks feel flatter than ever, with the past 48 hours proving particularly exasperating.

Friday provided an ominous opening, with Chelsea’s victory wrapping up the title race to introduce rotation concerns, while also providing blanks for both Eden Hazard and Diego Costa.

Mason Holgate’s withdrawal for Everton provided an additional blow for those with the Bench Boost in play – an early marker for Saturday’s misery.

Today’s events included a variety of cruel twists.

Manchester City’s failure to keep a clean sheet, together with Kevin De Bruyne’s blank, provided immediate irritation.

That was followed by Victor Anichebe’s injury and Jordan Pickford’s one-point return, before today’s arch villains – Southampton – provided the coup de grace.

Having shaken off his tinkerman moniker, Saints boss Claude Puel regressed to punish our Bench Boost ambitions with seven changes.

Manolo Gabbiadini and Dusan Tadic were nowhere to be seen, Jack Stephens sat unused on the bench. Then Middleborough played their part, notching an improbable consolation goal to snatch the points from the Southampton assets that remained.

Stoke City’s Peter Crouch then provided a sucker punch, quite literally, to deprive us of an Arsenal clean sheet and apply more salt to today’s wound.

Even this evening’s 12-point contribution from Alexis Sanchez, backed by over 450,000 with the captaincy, was a silver lining that had its cloud, the Chilean limping from the bet365 turf to cast doubt over his start against Sunderland in midweek.

He played on and scored while carrying the knock – an apparent thigh injury, perhaps a dead leg. We now have to hope that Sanchez has the opportunity to run at the Black Cats defence on Tuesday. With him, Gameweek 37 could yet deliver for so many.

Elsewhere today, it was perhaps typical that it was left to a pair of single fixture assets to provide some comfort, Swansea City’s Fernando Llorente and the prolific Josh King of Bournemouth repaying those who kept faith amid the clamour for twin-fixture targets.

The last two days provide a sobering reminder of how we can overplay the potential of a double Gameweek. But we’ll doubtless do it all over again, and also have to remain optimistic on what remains of Gameweek 37.

There are still many fixtures to be played out and, in all likelihood, further unexpected plot twists to come – some of which will hopefully turn more favourably for us Fantasy managers.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Sanchez my man don't push yourself. Just rest and be ready for the final fixture. No need to feature for Sunderland. I'm sure rest of the squad can do fine against a relegated club without you.

    -Sincerely, Sanchez owner Jesus captainer.

The must-win element puts me off to be honest. Was planning on punting on Liverpool with transfers this week but now worry it will be workmanlike unless there's an early goal.
EVE is a good fixture for Arsenal. No way they're putting everything in to help Liverpool get top 4.

Giroud & Crouch currently my least favourite players of all time.

And the whole Sunderland, Stoke, Middlesbrough & Palace sides.

Why is Giroud your least favourite? Sanchez returns fine with Giroud on the pitch, it was when Welbeck came in that he started blanking.

Pickford has been quite useful I though and so has Tekkers over his dgw 14ptr

Pickford agreed, and to an extent Tekkers

Giroud is just such a goose.

AOA is more likely to cost you points than gain you points unless you have 3 defenders not playing.

If the chips are staying, I won't be using AOA next season unless I can't field 3 defenders

I think that is what it is for really. I cannot see any other purpose in it. Wasting extra money on a half decent 8th attacker seems pointless and just costs you points in the long run

Guy here last night was asking if he should drop Ozil to someone and upgrade Anichebe so he can use AOA and let Yoshi on the bench. Thought it was a bit daft, drop points just to use a chip

I played it wrongly this year and ended up with extra money on my bench for a few games I never intended. I won't do it next year

I used it and benched Evan's first goal to play Allen for 10minute cameo. Cost me 8 pts.

Mate used in on Ramirez for Boro's double gameweek, he got sent off.

Mate used BB last year and got a -2 from his 4 players.. LOL

That's why I'm playing it in 38 (someone here convinced me to adopt this strategy quite early in the season). Allows me to play some cheap attacker from a side fighting relegation rather than a cheap defender who has no reason to grit it out especially in a week historically famously for goals

Meh, with Monreal Alonso and Kompany, I'm happy to have 3 defenders next week with goal threat

With that defense definitely AOA is a no go! I'm stuck with Monreal, Daniels, Huth, Yoshida and Holgate. Would much rather play Jordan Ayew as my 8th attacker if relegation battle is still alive.

    1. Bavis, Bavis, Alli, Alli, Costa, Jesus

      Very close. Comes down to
      Alli vs Sanchez and JWP
      Jesus vs Sané
      Costa vs Gabbi

Think Monreal Kone and Cech will slightly outscore Davies

      Sané to outscore Jesus

Costa and Gabbi, depends if they play

Sanchez and JWP should edge it on Alli to.

      Whatever that equates to.

Seeing as I'm left with AOA and would need to take a hit to make it worth it and have 5 fit defenders 4 of them with a good chance of a clean sheet....I may not use it.

Thinking about this for next season: AOA in GW1 with a lower spread of money in defence. Allows:
    - 'trialing' two of the cheaper mids who might be the next Mahrez/Capoue/King and also starting with more of the cheaper defenders, saving 2FT and then downgrading/upgrading to a proper cheap 5th mid and premium defender once we figure out who looks watertight...

    1. Pep says
      • 10 Years
      8 years, 11 months ago

May as well have a shot at it ya but if your using 2fts into gw3 to sort out your 5th mid then you won't be able to jump other players who come out firing in the 1st 2 gws

      1. b✪mber
        • 10 Years
        8 years, 11 months ago

This. Also you're effectively planning a transfer for a 4th mid when some of the big hitters might need changing.

I actually started with the season with Hazard+Vardy and 1.5M ITB. Was prepared for either Haz > Sanchez or Vardy > Ibra if something went wrong with the initial picks. Ended up doing the latter, but because I didn't see the Friday kick off (back when I was making the plan) in GW2 I had to take Ibra before most of my players played in that GW. Didn't get an injury, but it was a risky move.

I'll most likely start like that next season - money ITB and every big hitter within 1FT.

    Repost
    Cech(Pickford)
    Alonso Bailly Kompany Stephens (Holgate)
    (C)outinho Sanchez Alli King (Zaha)
    Kane Jesus (Anichebe)

What to do for GW 38?(1ft,0.8 itb)
    A)Holgate to Lovren
    B)Bailly to Matip/Clyne
    C)Alli to Mahrez/Siggy
    D)Kane to Llorente /Vardy/Sturridge
