Successive 4-0 routs of West Ham United and Swansea City suggests the spirit of attacking football looks to have finally returned to Old Trafford.

Bolstered by the summer acquisitions of Nemanja Matic and Romelu Lukaku, Manchester United’s attacking output has generated a huge amount of buzz within Fantasy circles.

Having written in the pre-season that the Red Devils were my top pick to improve their goalscoring numbers in 2017/18 (after underperforming their projected output by over 10 goals last term), my own projection system was bullish on their potential to produce early returns.

Yet even I didn’t expect the goals to flow so freely over the opening weeks. With the fixtures continuing to align in their favour (at least over the next five Gameweeks), the case for us to increase our investment in United’s attack is strong. Indeed, though many managers have coverage already in the form of Romelu Lukaku – FPL’s most selected player with 55% ownership – the prospect of doubling up is a significant temptation.

This week’s Technical Area will be digging into the performances of two in-vogue midfield assets – Paul Pogba and Henrikh Mkhitaryan – in an attempt to tease out the optimal Fantasy prospect.

Two Gameweeks in, Pogba and Mkhitaryan currently occupy first and second place respectively for FPL midfielders.

Pogba followed up an eight-point opener with an explosive 15-point performance in Gameweek 2, while Mkhitaryan has returned 10 and 11 points in impressively consistent fashion. Yet despite the similarity of their totals, the manner in which the pair have produced their points has been very different.

I've been sorely tempted recently. Looking at KDB and Alli sitting in my midfield and thinking which of Pogba, Mhki and Eriksen I should go without.

    Have a defense of:
    Danilo Stephens Suttner Francis 4m

    Looks like Francis drops tonight
    A. Take the drop and do Danilo to Trippier.
    B. Hope Danilo starts and do Francis to a 4.5m def(Britos or someone) with WC gw4.

Cheers guys and good luck with your players for the City game 🙂

For those planning on playing w/c over international break, are you taking hits to avoid price drops/rises in order to maximise utility of the early wildcard?

Only if they are likely to improve your score by 4 points or more between now and the WC.

Took a hit cause I haven't decided yet whether I use WC over the break or not... If I was certain I'd use the WC next week then no hits for me, unless like Bitm2007 says above it'll likely improve your score next week (e.g. you have an injured player)...

  6. kempc23

    Thoughts on this wildcard team?

    Foster Elliott
    Alonso Jones 4.5 * 3
    Eriksen Pogba/Mkhi Richarlison Mooy 4.5
    Kane Lukaku Firmino

Only ones im not so sure about are Richarlison and Mooy in midfield. Could change things up and go for a 442 or 433. Jones is also a bit of a risk due to his injury record.

essentially, he's a cm/cdm playing for Huddersfield. Can see some minimal returns for him in the next 5 GWs or so with Huds good fixtures, but also wouldn't be surprised to see him get a string of 2s and 3s.

Maybe, but who knows who Pep will start. That is an option though, will see after tonight. Kane looked excellent against Chelsea though and I fully expect him to be the top scorer in FPL this year, if he stays fit.

    Lads, some help.

Who do I lose for Kane? Laca or Jesus? Definitely getting Kane for c.Very difficult call for me this. Fixtures pretty even, I rate Laca as a player and I thought the problem with Arsenal was welbz who just wouldn't pass to Laca. Alexis back soon too so quality improves.

Brazil play 1st and 6th Sept. Man city play Liverpool on 9th Sept. And then UCL midweek I think. Rotation central for Jesus?

Fixtures Laca - liv BOU che WBA BHA (Liv is a good fixture attack wise) Jesus - bou LIV wat CPL cheBasically WBA BHA vs wat CPL

Pretty even there. Laca provides a good armband option gw4 as well. Hmm.Difficult. Or do i hokey cokey Laca -> Kane and then Jesus to Kane to catch both bournemouth hauls?

Laca's issue is more to do with Arsenal than himself. He will score goals if given the right service. City are so attacking. Jesus will get lots of chances to score.

personally, I would see how Jesus goes tonight, but I would be tempted to drop him. Pep already hinted at rotation city when CL kicks in, and that would not make me happy as a Jesus owner. Laca seems 100% nailed and has some very tasty home fixtures in the near future, and as you point out, Welbz will be out the team soon, and Kolasinac should be in the LWB position, providing even greater attacking support.

Arsenal need to sell before buying. Walcott isn't needed but is on 140k, and would cost £30mil in transfer fee. The player should look to move so he starts games but wont. Such a shame that he doesn't want to leave. He could do well for a mid table club

he'd have to think about having them halved though. Could see him going for £15m and down to 70k a week at a midtable club

Walcott had that bizarre idea that he wanted to become a centre forward. What was that about? He just flits in and out of Wenger's side. He's in the situation now where there is no potential he is at his peak so anyone buying him would be expecting the finished article for their ££millions. Man Utd could buy him to inject some pace down Mata's side. He's better than Lingard. Or maybe Spurs to add competition for Alli/Eriksen/Son.

Arsenal just seems like an easy place to play. Wenger's long term security has meant he's stuck with underperforming players for far longer than any other manager would. He's said they need to sell lots of fringe players. Maybe they'd sell Walcott is an offer came in.

    Current Team:

    DDG (Elliot)

    Davies, Cedric, Mee (Mbemba, Hunemeier)

    Alli, Eriksen, Salah, Pogba, Willian

    Lukaku, Firmino (Quaner)

    Willian and non-starting DEF escape plan;

    Willian + Hunemeier > Richarlison + Dawson

This would see Dawson as starting def and Mee deputising for his difficult fixtures.

I can see Richarlison(Brighton) & Dawson(Stoke) doing well enough to outscore Mee(Spurs) and Willian(Everton) by 4 or more. Should I bet on it with a -4 hit this week or wait til GW3 and use 2 FT's?
