Having witnessed Harry Kane fail to produce a goal or an assist in five of his previous home matches, the striker’s two million Fantasy owners will have been anxious ahead of his run-out against Stoke City.

But Kane banished those doubts by helping himself to a pair of goals and a 12-point return as Spurs routed the Potters at Wembley Stadium.

As expected, it was perhaps Stoke’s incompetence rather than Spurs’ form that was the major factor in Saturday’s contest.

Mark Hughes side had already conceded 30 goals prior to the 5-1 defeat, second only to West Ham who had shipped 32. Perhaps more significantly, they had allowed 35 big chances – more than any other side.

Those statistics were always likely to play into the hands of Mauricio Pochettino’s attack, who eventually ran riot following an early own goal from Ryan Shawcross.

It was Son Heung-min who provided the assist for that opening strike, with his deflected cross turned in by the Stoke skipper.

The South Korean, rather than Kane, was Spurs’ star performer, producing a goal and two assists to claim 16 points. Son now has four goals and those two assists from his last six Gameweek starts.

Owned by just 1.8%, he could yet be a factor in our seasons on this form. Certainly, if he can cement a starting role, Son is currently promising to outpace both Chrisitan Eriksen and Dele Alli as midfield options.

That pair were also in the points, Alli returning his fourth assist of the season, while Eriksen got on the scoresheet to notch his fourth goal.

Both have suffered huge ownership losses in recent Gameweeks and, despite Saturday’s points, that’s unlikely to be reversed given the competition for places in Fantasy midfields.

But Kane is starting to look unopposed as the premium striker option.

He rewarded the 1.1 million who made him the Gameweek’s top captain pick, a total which included 36 of the top 100 FPL managers.

With Morata failing earlier in the day at West Ham, Romelu Lukaku off form and the Man City options still engaged in a job share, it’s surely difficult to overlook Kane following his latest Wembley returns.

He had seven shots with three big chances today – more than any other player in the Gameweek.

He now has four goals from his last four Gameweeks, is second only to Mohamad Salah in the overall standings (94 vs 113) and will surely be the leading captain pick for Wednesday’s Gameweek 17 home meeting with Brighton.

Subject to over 105,000 sales prior to today’s return – with a net loss of 36,000 owners – Kane is already the most bought player ahead of Tuesday’s 6.45 deadline.

Spurs defence remains a no-go

While Son and Kane inspired the attack, there is little amongst Pochettino’s rearguard to tempt Fantasy interest.

With the injured Toby Alderweireld still sidelined and Davinson Sanchez ruled out through suspension, Spurs were short on options. They duly shifted to a back four and a 4-2-3-1, a formation that pinned both Ben Davies and Kieran Trippier as full-backs.

That pair still raided forward, providing 12 crosses as Davies contributed a hanging centre for Kane’s first goal – the fourth assist of the season from the Welshman.

But with Serge Aurier and Danny Rose doubtless lined up for starts against the Seagulls, there is little currently security on offer. And with just one clean sheet from the last eight Gameweeks, the frailties created by Alderweireld’s absence remain an issue.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Have 2FT and 1.4itb for gw17. I have some ideas--and I'm waiting for the results tomorrow, obviously--but anything standing out at this point? Elliot and Niasse are top of the transfer heap, maybe even Sane, if he gets his fifth YC.

    Fab, Elliot
    Azpi, Ota, Mustafi, Ward, Duffy
    Sane, Salah, Richa, Gross, RLC
    Kane, Niasse, Morata

My transfers are having almost hilarious consequences this season! The latest being:
Dann + Jones to Alonso + Zeegelaar (-4)
I can only laugh and be hopeful that both Sane + Salah plays or I have -2 incoming!

Yeah I had the Zeegelaar move pencilled in for this week and I probably would've done it last week if I didn't have bigger problems. Probably the most decent gameweek I've had since GW 12 wildcard. Only 36 points with Sterling Ota and Salah to play. Haven't seen a 50 in a while so I'm hopeful

Yep, funny thing is I'm having my best game-week in some time and have climbed almost 600k places. Only 2 players to go though. How's your GW going?

31, 3 remaining, climbed up about 200k places despite a captaincy fail and benching a ward 8 pointer. Frustrating though, had a gut feeling Kane would do well but changing my captain's last minute has never gone well. Put too much faith in RLC too

Best move here lads? 2 free transfers, nothing in the bank, willing to take a hit.

    Foster
    Otamendi, Daniels, Mee
    Salah, Sane, Sterling, Richarlison
    Kane, Morata, Vardy

    Elliot; Loftus-Cheek, Naughton, Moreno.

Looking at downgrading Vardy and getting Hazard in but I suppose that depends on how Sane does tomorrow with Swansea up next.

Futuristic moves: Team in good shape after a -4, so can't do anything this gw as anything beyond a -4 is excessive.

    Pope (Elliott)
    Christensen Kolasinac Otamendi Ward (Dunk)
    Salah Hazard Sterling Richarlison (RLC)
    Kane Morata (Niasse)

    A) Morata and Niasse to Firmino and Gayle/Austin
    B) Morata and Richarlison to Firmino and Pogba

Either to anyone's fancy going forward or do I stick with the plan & just get Crouch/Quaner in the third striker spot?

Kane and Morata are the best options if going for 2 premium strikers at present but starting think I could get more value with a Firmino or like you said alluded to, downgrading completely to a Gayle/an Austin and pumping more funds into midfield

    3. La Gazzetta
      • 8 Years
      8 years, 3 months ago

I think all are fine variations of what you already have. I'm considering putting more into my midfield as I have the same starting 4 as you and want Coutinho. Not sure how I'll get him in at any stage. I understand the pogba move as united have nice fixtures.

why get rid of morata? Bcoz of one blank? Look at Chelsea's fixtures. If u have him in ur team, stick with him for some time.

Don't take hits for DDG, and Courtois to DDG is not worth a hit. They should do over this run, would be more concerned if they were conceding plenty but they aren't conceding much atm so I'm sure the clean sheets will come

    Hazard, Salah, Cou, Richarlison, Tarroll
    Kun, Morata, DCL

Don't know what to do, any thoughts guys?
Should I buy Kun urgently or just wait and see how is going with City?
Before the game my plan is to buy Pickford for Foster.

    Thanks.

which cheap striker is better option? Mame Diouf or DCL? Stoke do have good fixtures coming up. Want to get rid of Abraham now with Swansea tough fixtures coming up.

I've had Diouf for a number of weeks, don't go there. You'll be pulling your hair out when he plays RWB and gets 2 pointers every game

      The one with Haz

So guys I already made my 2 FTs yesterday because I thought Elliot would go down in price. I brought Adrian and Mariappa in to replace Elliot and Daniels. Team prior to GW17 is now looking like that :

    Adrian (ARS) | Speroni (WAT)

Otamendi (swa) | Davies (BRI) | Jones (BOU) | Mee (STO) | Mariappa (cry)

Hazard (hud) | Coutinho (WBA) | Sterling (swa) | Richarlison (cry) | Loftus-Cheek (WAT)

Kane (BRI) | Morata (hud) | Niasse (new)

    0 FT | £0.7 itb

On the paper the starting eleven is more than okay. But in my opinion there is a lot of uncertainty. Davies will surely be benched. Mee possibly injured. Niasse possibly benched.

Do you think I need to take a hit to change something, what are your thoughts on this ? Not too keen on taking hits when my team is doing well but who knows.

Yeah I know. But do I want to bring him in now that Coutinho seems finally on fire ? What I could do is downgrade Davies to a cheap defender and upgrade Sterling to Salah but I'm not too sure about it, it looks like a waste of transfers and money to get an unbalanced team that rely too much on Liverpool returns. If tomorrow Salah outscore Coutinho I'll re-think it I guess.

Elliot going down 0.1 not worth a trade as he could come back but with Speroni as other GK playing a dangerous game

That's the problem since a few gameweeks. I already had a 10-players GW10 and I feel like Speroni will be straight back in the bench GW17 so I feel a lot better having Adrian in my team. I have GDW22 on sight too.

With another great game by Adrian and a clean sheet I don't think so. But I'm not 100% certain ofc.

Not sure what to do with this team as I have a defensive crisis next GW. 1FT and 0.1 ITB

I dont know when Moreno will be back, Daniels and Naughton have terrible fixtures and Mbemba rarely plays.

    DDG (3.9)
Ward (Burnley) - Moreno - Naughton - Daniels - Mbemba
    Hazard - Salah - Coutinho - Richarlson - RLC
    Kane - Morata - Niasse

I am thinking of doing Mbemba to Marriappa and hope for the best from Naughton or Daniela

Yeah you can't really afford to get rid of players that are playing just because they have bad fixtures, you have more urgent problems. But Will Mbemba play and Mariappa be rested though ?

    Any suggestions for this lot

    Pope Elliot
    Kola Azpi Christensen Mee Naughton
    Salah Sane Richarlison Zaha Gross
    Kane Morata Quaner

Is Azpi + kola + gross + Zaha to Haz + Jones + Kabesele + Gray (-8) worth it?

Why would you sell Azpi Kola and Gross. Chelsea have decent fixtures. Brighton have 2 good home fixtures after Spurs. Jones is nice but will he play the next 2 after derby?
