The already punch-drunk ‘template team’ was delivered a knockout blow this week as the January transfer window offered up a host of fresh faces and new clubs for some former Fantasy greats.

Our Hot Topic posters consider the best new recruits as the community looks to rip apart festive squads that did well over December, but fell out of favour over January.

Elsewhere, attacking defenders to replace the most cursed Fantasy centre-back ever seen is among the issues covered by our Members area statisticians.

We look back at all that and drop in our community articles, where Fantasy rugby earns a rare mention. And, as always, we finish off with a scan of those who emerged from January in style at the top of our community competitions.

The Community Articles

As well as assessing the views of the ‘the crowd’ on Gameweek 26’s matches, Hutch_James has also been busy compiling this handy guide to the Six Nations Fantasy game for the community’s rugby fans.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

The Hottest Topics

This season’s January transfer window proved to be one of the most exciting for years, with Arsenal provding the headline act.

Their capture of Borussia Dortmund marksman Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang prompted a chain of events that saw Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi move to the Bundesliga side and Gunners forward Olivier Giroud across London to replace the Belgian.

This follows the departures earlier last month from the Emirates of Theo Walcott and Alexis Sanchez to Everton and Manchester United respectively.

Hotdogs for tea canvassed the community’s views on Aubameyang’s prospects at his new club, while Siva Mohan dropped by to consider another potentially lucrative piece of business by Arsene Wenger in January – the extension of playmaker Mesut Ozil’s contract until 2021.

Walcott’s move to the Toffees has piqued Rupert the Horse’s interest, especially after the winger scored a brace against Leicester City in only his second match for the club. His Hot Topic ponders whether this former Gunner is worth getting in as soon as possible, or can be safely snubbed for another Gameweek or two.

Early adopters who made the move for Walcott prior to his Foxes haul were among those to claim deserved ‘hipster’ bragging rights in our “rough with the smooth” round-up of your Gameweek 25 scores.

In sharp contrast to Arsenal, Manchester City failed in their attempts to bolster their attacking riches as they were unable to land Leicester City’s Riyad Mahrez.

This left those Fantasy managers who made an early swoop for the Algerian distraught after it became clear he would miss out on Gameweek 25 following City’s flirtations.

Our lessons learned from Gameweek 25 discussion considers the difficulties of trying to assemble a Fantasy team around transfer deadline day.

Later in the week, we canvassed views on the best replacement for the want-away winger as it emerged he would also miss out this weekend.

To view all our discussions please visit our Hot Topics page.

The Members Tables

Stoke me a clipper has been busy constructing a raft of tables covering issues including recent goalkeeping kings, attacking defenders and midfielders and strikers who are coming into form.

Elsewhere, FPL Virgin has been looking at the underlying statistics of some of the best replacements for Chelsea’s unlucky centre-back Andreas Christensen, who through a serious of unfortunate events has only managed to last more than 60 minutes once in the last six Gameweeks.

If you’re a member and are yet to get to grips with the custom statistics tables, you can view this movie for an explanation of how they work. Also, remember to tag them so that people can find the tables with ease.

The Community Tournaments

In the FFScout Moderators and Contributors, Jack Wain stays top, while I’ve snatched second spot from Az.

ZoumasBloomers still leads QPR UTD’s Frequent Summer Posters league, which is another competition where I have to settle for second place.

FFScout Cup finalist Elvarus has increased his lead at the summit of Red Lightning’s Top 10K Any Season and has moved up to 30 in the overall standings.

Meanwhile, in Redlightning’s January to May league, JOZ V has leapt into first place after scoring an impressive 289 points over the first four weeks of this second-half-of-the-season competition.

It is business as usual in the FFScout Members league, which Heroes and Villains continues to dominate, while Bowstring the Carp has regained the lead in the main FFScout league and now sits ninth in the overall ranks.

In TorresMagic’s Last Man Standing, the safety score was 43, which saw 89 players depart and 616 remain.

Finally, Speedyboyz was on hand to deliver the latest news from the Community Watch tournament.

If you are running a community tournament and would like the latest scores included in future Community Round-Ups, please email us a summary of the current leaders and a link to your league, spreadsheet or head-to-head competition, at jonty@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk.

Alright lads, need some advice before price rises:

    A)
    De Gea (Coleman)
    Alonso Jones Monreal Robertson (Chilwell)
De Bruyne Salah Sterling Walcott (Ibe)
    Aguero Firmino Wilson

    B)
    De Gea (Coleman)
    Alonso Jones Monreal Robertson (Ogbonna)
Sanchez De Bruyne Salah Sterling (Ibe)
    Aguero Wilson (Quaner)

So essentially, Chilwell-Walcott-Firmino vs. Ogbonna-Sanchez-Quaner...but I think the formations are important, hence why I left them here. Which do you guys think is better?

Chilwell Walcott Firmino. It’s more balanced and gives you more options going forward. The second option is putting all your money on one player to do well.

You should ask yourself will Sanchez give you more points than Walcott-fermino.
If you plan on captaining Sanchez a lot then go ahead, just get Chilwell instead of westham defender.

As a differential how does Ozil sound?

I know Arsenal don't have great fixtures after Everton (spurs & CITY) but he's only owned by 2.6% and with Aubameyang and now Sanchez to stifle him, surely he could come into his own?

Or is that wishful thinking? Should I just go for budget Mhki instead?

Just feel like with his new contract he'll be buzzing..

    1. JasonG123
      • 12 Years
      8 years, 6 months ago

Could work out but he's quite expensive this season and his form has been patchy - would take the risk if he was 1m cheaper.

    2. Atwood
      • 16 Years

If I was going to go Arsenal I'd go Mhiki.

Ozil is a strange player when it comes to fantasy, if only we knew when he was going to turn it on...

    3. FantasyFootballSprout
      • 9 Years

I like it and considered it myself. However Mkhi is basically the same player with goals and a lot cheaper so Mkhi imo.

      • 11 Years

Huge differential, but as others have said, probably too expensive. Mhki is your man.

    5. JohnnyMagrinho
      8 years, 6 months ago

      OK cheers guys.

Ideally I won't have to make the transfer this week. Already on -8 hit for the week but I'm happy with those three moves I've made.

The catch is I brought in Auba and he's no guaranteed to play...

I'm 3-4-3 and my back up midfielder is Mahrez. I know I should have got rid of him but I didn't think enough people would drop him in one day for a price fall and was planning on getting rid on Saturday afternoon. Foolish I know, but now I'm really stuck because my back up behind him is Zanka.

So basically I could risk bringing in Mhki for another -4 or run the gauntlet with Auba playing and if not then settling for a 1 point from Zanka...

      1. noquarternt
        • 11 Years
        8 years, 6 months ago

Sorry mate but bringing in Auba is a shocking move on a -8. Overlook your Arsenal love and play with your head.

        No more hits.

        1. JohnnyMagrinho
          8 years, 6 months ago

I'm not competitive this year mate. I'm like 1.2m so I thought I'd go for a high-risk move.

Doesn't look great and probably explains why I'm doing so poor this year haha..

            • 11 Years

        2. noquarternt
          • 11 Years
          8 years, 6 months ago

          And you've still got Mahrez???

Defies belief, just relax log out and wait until 20 mins before the next gameweek deadline.

          1. JohnnyMagrinho
            8 years, 6 months ago

To be honest Aubameyang was definitely going to be slotted in to start so if he wasn't ill it wouldn't have been an issue.

I wanted to change my front three to make use of good fixtures for this week and wait to get rid of Mahrez as the rest of my midfield is fine.

I'm not just 'playing for fun' it just hasn't fell right for me this year.

At this point I have to be high-risk high-reward because of my rank. It's nothing like the same kind of approach when you're in the top 100k or higher. I had been climbing the last few GW too.

I was all ready to captain Hazard for the Monday night game:

    Watford are poor defensively
I’ll disciplined so pens and assists from free kicks
Hazard scores more away from home

Then I read that Giroud is likely out.

Why all of that instead of bench Mili or Mustafi

Way behind on the reply here, but I try to provide the full scope of my team. Answers may vary based on other players.

Very tough captaincy choice for me this week due to lack of an outstanding option. It's a 3 way coin toss between the consistency of Salah, explosiveness of Kane and the fact-he's-a-city-attacker-in-a-Guardiola-team-ness of Sterling.

    Any thoughts?

I'm in the exact same boat, have it on Salah currently due to consistency, he always seems to get chances and if Davies and Son are on the left he should get lots of space. Saying that Spurs could totally dominate them again.

Do we think Walcott rises tonight? Thinking about bringing him in, but only have enough if he doesn't rise. Worth a -4?

Arsenal have shipped 14 goal in the last 7 games.
Their last clean sheet was gw18.

Walcott will be baying for blood.

If you want him for the long term, then take the hit. It’s a sea of green after the Arsenal game. Everyone is gonna have him.

Not worth missing out on him by 0.1 is what I’m trying to say.

Do I take Andy King (£4.2m) as my 5th mid over McArthur (£4.3m) as I'm 0.1 short, or make a THIRD HIT and downgrade Christensen, thus allowing me anyone up to about £5m?

I mean three hits is a lot but if you can finally take out the cursed Christensen then it's worth it

King but you must be in dire straits to be considering a third hit involving Christensen.
